Hi Guys- Geovision v8 DVR. Here’s what I’m trying to do: I am going to send some type of output (ground, NO/NC, etc) to Geovision (maybe the I/O module or something). If I have my normal 16 view, I would like to have the DVR temporarily fullscreen/1 view a particular camera. In other words, if I’m looking at my DVR on 8 or 16 view, and my motion sensor alarms and sends a ground pulse to some type of Geo input, I want Geo to fullscreen a particular camera. Is this possible? Thanks

hi all. gv-600/4 v3 software v6050 radeon 7000 w/svideo tv out ATI software set to clone displays this is a rebuild of a system that had a hard drive crash. the vga out goes to a regular monitor, the svideo out goes to a TV. before the crash, geo would run full screen and just show the 4 cameras on both displays. now, the cameras show on the monitor but not tv. just get a big purple image. interestingly, when i go into system config and choose a camera, the "preview" of that camera shows up. everything is displays ok on both monitors, including playing a .wmv file. any ideas? thanks

no star config; right now it goes straight from + and - on gvnet to ptz. not being split anywhere. according to the PTZ manual none of the dip switches are for termination. right now its wired from + and - from gvnet to the TXDI + and i. nothing is on the PTZ TXDO + and - since its my only dome. how would i terminate this? thanks, mike

VGA extension cable between GEO and video ins?
uglyb0b posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
hi all- i was wondering if i could use a VGA extension cable that would be between the Geo card (1240) and the "cable dongle" that has all the BNC inputs. im replacing a DVR, and the new one is too big to fit where the old one is, and it would be easier to use the VGA extension rather than extend 16 bnc cables. i temporarily put one on, and it works, but i was hoping to hear from others with any experience with doing so. thanks! -
sortve, but i was hoping to get more info on the hardware side. rs485 seems to be common, so im not sure what it means that the box were using now is rs422. does geo make a rs232 to rs422? is there enough difference between rs422 and rs485?

Hi all. We an i3 DVR that we will be replacing with a GV-1240. It has 5 PTZs connected to it. The DVR is attached to a Kalatel KTD-83, which is a (GE?) box that takes RS-232 and turns it into 6 RS422 control signals. The PTZs are of course wired to it. I am unsure of the brand of the PTZs as well as the protocol used; would it be Kalatel? What would I need in order to control the PTZs from Geovision? Is it as simple at something Geo makes thats RS-232 to RS422? Thanks in advance.

Ok… newbie question here. Suppose you get a bullet that you mount upside down and end up with your image being upside down on the monitor. In other words, the camera is designed to be mounted with the pedestal on the ceiling, but you mount it with the pedestal facing downwards. Can the camera be turned where it connects to the pedestal to correct the image? Can the inside of the camera be turned to correct the image? Does this depend on the camera?

FAT32 vs NTFS for Geovision Data drive
uglyb0b replied to Rene's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
it depends on if data loss is important to you. on a raid 0 if one of the drive crashes you lose all of your data. it seems like that might not be a big deal to you since you are putting the OS on a 1 and video on a 0. i would either make the data (video) drive a raid 1 as well or leave them as seperate drives. im not sure with fat/ntfs in regards to geo; all of our dvrs are ntfs and its not been a problem. my home dvr which im building is a geo and ntfs seems to be fine on it. with a powerful machine you shouldnt notice any performance issues with ntfs, so i would stick with it so you can use the security/permissions stuff later on if ever need/want to. -
i think i read this somewhere but you have to be a dealer to get the SDK, right?

very nice. are you using the SDK to write these apps?

How to move viewers to secondary monitor
uglyb0b posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hello all. First off, I’m a newbie to the CCTV world, so take it easy on me. I’m an IT pro during the day, and an eager beginner of CCTV by night. I work for a company that has around 1000 employees across 11 locations. Until recently we always went through companys to install/maintain/upgrade our DVRs. Upon studying them, however, we (our department) decided to start managing and building them ourselves. This forum has proven to be an excellent resource for me. I still have lots to learn (mainly with cameras), but I am confident that we will soon build our first PC based DVR that will blow away everything we have bought in the past. Because this forum has been so helpful, I would like to join here and offer the following tutorial that I wrote for you guys. We use a handful of PC DVRs, including i-3, Netzeye, Honeywell, etc. One thing that all of these seem to have in common, however, is the fact that the software interface runs as a full screen window with no options to move or resize it. The only options are to minimize and close. At every facility that has a PC DVR, there is at least one person who has a PC and wants to watch the DVRs. I’m not talking about staff in the security room who are physically next to the DVRs and watching those, I’m talking about another employee (supervisor or manager usually) who watches them. All of these employees have XP with dual monitors. The problem we had was that when using the remote viewer, the app would launch in a full screen window without any control as I mentioned before. We wanted to run the viewer app on the secondary monitor so they can use their primary for MS Word, Internet, etc. A few free utilities and a simple batch file is all it takes to give you the ability to move the otherwise unmovable window to the other monitor. To start, you need to download wait.exe and cmdow.exe. See links below. Wait.exe is a simple utility that, when used in a batch file, will wait for however many seconds you specify. Cmdow.exe is a very powerful command line utility that will do anything you want to a window. Download both of the files. Unzip them if necessary. To make things easier, I suggest you copy wait.exe and cmdow.exe to your \windows\system32 folder. This way you can call them anywhere from the command line as they will be in your system path. First, we need to figure out the name of the window that we will be moving. This is easy enough. Close all programs that you can, and open up whatever viewer app you want to move. Minimize the viewer, and make sure it is listed as a window on your taskbar. Now go to a command window, and type: cmdow /t This will list all windows that are currently on the taskbar. What you are looking for is in the far right column. You should be able to figure out which window you’re after, such as “viewerâ€
