Of course you get it, because in the "Recording Settings" you still have an entry "Record" which is "ON". If you switch that off, the periodic video should be gone, and only the motion related videoclips defined in the Event settings ("Motion Areas") should appear. That was it, I was overlooking that. I have a Vivotek FD8161 here in my shop, Ive been tinkering with it. I have a customer who has a large retirement home. I already have a system there, the network is severely outdated and needless to say they want to add some sort of surveillance in some remote hallways. They dont have the budget to upgrade there network, or have the added cost of wiring....etc. I am trying to utilize a camera similar to the FD8161, and utilize the onboard storage. I have it set up for motion, and have it taking 3 snapshots before the motion and 3 snapshots after.... The problem I am running into is that it is doing this periodic recording every minute....that I havent set it for.....and its eating up the SD card space. Anybody have any advice on this, I cannot find anyway to "turn off" the periodic recording.. Basically I wanna use this unit as a glorified "trial camera"... THX

I got it figured out...took some tinkering. It still does the periodic video though. Im waiting for my email from tech support. Im guessing this is a built-in script that is default. Im guessing that typically, these cameras arent used this way, and this is a safety feature so if the network goes down you have some images recorded....until the network comes up. This is what I have it setup as: (see if I have anything obviously wrong--I dont see anything about periodic video) This is the image that I captured this morning, I have the quality turned down to allow for a smaller file. Still pretty decent still shot.

Seems like you may have it, how long will your cable runs be? Premade cables can be cheaper and already have both the BNC's and DC jacks installed. I agree sir, See if you can get some form of gasket material, rubber hose, or foam tube that would fit around the base of the lense, and fit snug up to the dome. Basically you want something to shield the lens from the IR light...

What type of sytem? IP, Analog, Hybrid? How large of a system? I have had luck with TrueH DVR's for smaller analog systems, but the end user interface can be tricky for some customers. Digimerge units arent too bad, but they have a "big-box" store feel to them. As far as Hybrid DVR's AverMedia or AverDigi are easy to setup, and have a simple interface. I have an AverMedia EH5108H Hybrid at my shop and I love it, simple to use, easy to show customers how it functions...

I have an installer whom decided not to install the waterproof coupler on an IP7361..... needless to say 6 months later the camera went out....couldnt connect. I go and inspect...sure enough the connector coming from the camera to the cat5 has corroded to the point of shorting out (running POE). I am wondering if anyone has info on getting just the cable for this camera. It wont be a warranty thing, unless the warranty covers idiot techs who dont install correctly. It is a simple plug in to the camera....hopefully it didnt short the camera......... I will try Vivotek on Monday.....

As long as your TV has a VGA or PC port you should be able to connect to the DVR with the same type of cable that hooks a monitor to a desktop pc (15 pin male to male cable). The POE switch that I used was a Netgear 24 port gigabit switch, actually 2 of them. The facility has 56 cameras and 42 of them were POE Vivotek cameras (IP7361 and FD8361). So that was a bit different that what you are planning. Ive only used Video baluns on one job, that had preexisting wiring... needless to say I wasnt impressed. Like I said before, I think any POE injector would work, as long as the voltage output is correct, and it is standardized (wont fry your camera). This one should be an easy one but Im having some difficulty with it. I have a customer who is wanting to open a 24 hour fitness facility. They want a single door access control. He is wanting to use the cheapo keytag barcode cards.... like you get from a super store. He mainly wants the cards to be inexpensive to replace...ie. Print his own. I am trying to find an outdoor, weatherproof, barcode reader with a wiegand output. I have found a few possible candidates, Im just curious if anyone on here has any suggestions, or success/failure stories they can share input on. The door controller Im using is a BlueWave NetGen ethernet door controller... THX

Seriously, you cannot find a quality $50 camera, that has everything that you will need. It will either be too low resolution, not weatherproof or have a 10' IR range. A friendly suggestion, I wouldn't spend any less than $100 per camera, spend the money on a good camera....cause even if you do find that "magical $50 camera that has a dynamite picture and can see 100 yards at night" it will be a garbage camera. Why do you have cows and sheep inside your house?? Nevermind

To be honest I haven't used a POE injector yet, just POE switches. But like anything on the net, take some of those reviews with a grain of salt... I would think that about any injector would work as long as it has the correct voltage. I also saw something about compliance with some standard (IEEE 802.3af standard), so it doesnt short and fry your camera... Obviously its your call.... As far as the Cat5 I typically use Belkin Cat5e

That would be cool The last IP cam Patch for the EX/EH series was in the beginning of May.... and the FD8361 wasnt in that one yet.

The Vivotek FD8361's are great cameras....but quite a few of the AverMedia DVR's dont have the protocol yet for them, and some embedded units dont have an Onvif protocol either. I have an AverMedia EH5108H+ and a "spare" FD8361 camera, but I cannot use the camera (as of yet) because its not supported. Jay at Aver says a new IP cam patch is in the works but wont be available til mid/end of the summer. I have about 15 FD8361's at a facility and they have outstanding pictures. The Vivotek FD8161's are great indoor cameras with IR.... they are in the $400 range, they have a great picture. I have those hooked into my hybrid shop DVR..... I even modified one and added a heater and a blower and put it outside in a different housing...... i like to tinker. We will see how the Iowa winters treat it...

Ive used Avermedia units before, and Vivotek cameras. All those cables are for the different functions, so you dont need to utilize all of them. Your camera will need power, whether you use the 12vdc plug or cat5 POE. POE is easier to use, because power and video/audio signal can go over one Cat5 cable, but you will need either a POE switch, or a POE injector. The camera can use either the cat5, or the BNC for the video out. The other functions are if you want the wire the I/O to a door contact for an event trigger. So long story short if you use the Cat5 with a POE injector, plugged into your network, use the software that comes with the Vivotek to find or change the cameras IP. Set the cameras IP in the DVR, and your good. After you do all this, you may have an issue with the image size. I have an AverMedia EH5108H+ that I had some issues with. The image size was too large for the DVR to handle, and it was giving me an error that it couldnt connect to the camera. After a quick call to Aver I had to adjust the image size down, and it connected fine. Just make sure to adjust the image size through the Vivotek software. The video using this method will be awesome, Vivoteks are great cameras. I have 2 installed here at my shop and I have installed over 30 for customers. Hope this helps
