GET A LIFE!!!

Hello, I have an American Dynamics Digimux DVR that I'm having problems with. When I power it up, it goes to the American Dynamics splash screen, and cycles between that and the screen with color bars. The onlt light that is lit is the Enter/Zoom switch. Nothing else works. When I remove the harddrive, it cycles properly between all of the lights, and I'm able to press the different buttoms which light up when pressed. I try to enter the menu by pressing the menu button and the password, but nothing happend, just stays on the splash screen. Almost seems that it's not accepting the passwords. Is there any other way to get into the menu? Is there any way to reset it back to the factory defaults, my thinking is that the passwords might have been changed by accident. Thanks in advance.

Please help. Need advise on a surveillance system for home

I have to agree with Rebco. If you are looking to see that someone vandalized your property, then the Cosco solution should work fine, but if you are looking to be able to identify the person then you will need a better quality system. Be warned, even with some of the more expensive systems, if you go with too wide of a view, you will still not be able to id the person. What you need is what referred to a a "choke" zone. This is an area where you can zoom a camera into a particular spot, like a walkway, or gate and get a close up view of the person. Hope this helps. -
Hello, I would like to get your opinions on speco's CVC-6700 and CVC-627 cameras. I have a 627, and currently not that satisified with it especially in low light. Seems that the ir's are over powering it causing everything to be washed out and also grainy. Haven't tried it in bright light yet since it's currently mounted in a room with limited light. Is this normal for this camers? Is the 6700 a better camera, or should I expect the same type of results? Also these are listed as day/night. Are they truly day/night cameras? Thank you in advance

I know that Elbex cameras are used by some yacht companies to monitor the engine room and other parts of the ship.

Hello, I currently have a DVR at my home with a variety of cameras, from cheap bullets to some higher end domes. I am looking to change the domes over to bullets to make them less obtrusive. Looking at the bullets, there are thousands out there, and I have made some bad, inexperienced decisions in the past. What I look at in my decision is a bullet with IR, auto iris, and 480 or more lines of resolution. Should I be looking at other specs. also? Giving that this is my home, and more of a hobby then a security issue, what would be some good bullets for this application. I would like to be able to identify a person from about 20 - 30 feet. My current bullets cannot provide that. Thank you

I've used Gorilla glue for many applications, including gluing an outlet box to a poured foundation wall. Works great and holds very good. Have not had one come off yet. The only thing you need to watch with Gorilla glue is that it does expand considerably. If you use too much, you are going to have a mess to scrape off.

Thank you, and yes I am planning to mount them around 3' off the porch. And even if it does trip a false alert, the only harm would be is that I receive a page on my cell phone. The actual house alarm would not go off. The DVR is motion controlled, so it will be recording at any motion.

Currently I have a DVR with 4 camera, soon to be more. With a 200Gb drive I can easily record a month or more. I do use motion recording, and sometime (actually alot) it records birds, pets, shadows, trees moving, etc. What I am in the process of doing is setting up a photoelectric beam sensor on my back porch that will send an alert (not an alarm) to my alarm system when it's armed. This way I will get a page on my cell that someone was on my back porch, and I then can go to that time period to see who it was and what they were doing. Most likely it'll only be one of the neighbors, but I want to make sure that is the case, and not someone casing my house. Without this photoelectric beam, I would need to look thru days and days of video to see if something was going on.

I wouldn't suggest running wire under carpet, granted it's only coax and low voltage, but you will notice a lump where the wire goes under the carpet, and will sometimes get bunching on the padding. Once the padding bunches, it normally means lifting the carpet to fix the padding. A better way I found that normally works is to push the wire between the carpet and baseboard. Normally there's enough space for it to squeeze in under the baseboard. Other then that, lift the carpet off the tackless and lay it as close to the tackless as possible. Normally you don't need a carpet kicker to put the carpet back into place since it's already stretched. Just don't pull too much off at a time.

Too different ladders for two different situations, that's why most carry both.

A word of caution, any outdoor camera that is used with motion detection will give false alerts from birds walking on the grass, trees and bushes blowing, or just the sun causing shadows shifting. Night time you can get false alarms from headlights and also trees/bushes moving in the wind. Rain and snow also will cause false alerts. My cameras are sometimes recording about 80% of the time during the day, and about 20 - 30% at night due to the above. My suggestion is use the cameras for recording video, and get some motion sensors for people walking on your property.

I tried thie previously using a SMC router, and never had success, now that I am FIOS, with a different router, I decided to try again. I have a Actiontec router model MI424WR and using Diginet. Has any of you done any port forwarding using one of these routers? Can someone tell me how to go about it? Thank you in advance
-
Yes, Thank you, this will help. Does anyone know which ports need to be forwarded for DigiNet?

Are the Silent Witness line of cameras worth the money? These are normally pretty pricey, but I'm concerned that it's because of the branding, and not necessarily the quality. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you

Hello, I just got an Elbex EXC571 and EXC470 dome cameras. I was told that these are Pan/Tilt. I been looking all over for install documentation for these cameras, but have been striking out. Do any of you have or know where I can download this from? Also, I will be hooking these up to a DigiNet DVR. The way that I read the documentation from Kodicom, I need a separate RX-receiver for each of these cameras. Am I correct in this assumption? Any information that you can provide on these cameras would be appreciated. Thank you in advance,

Hello, I just picked up 2 bullet cameras. On the packing, there's a checkbox for NTSC, PAL, and EIA. The only box checked is the EIA box. What is EIA? Thank you
-
They were just individually boxed bullet cameras, I don't believe that I saw a name on the box.

Hello, A quick question on coax. For CCTV, is there any big difference between using standard RG59 coax with aluminum braid compared to the RG59 with the copper braid? Thank you in advance
