Ding sound every second or 2... help!

I solved it! I went to General Setting>Camera/Audio Install>Camera/Audio Install. in this windows I clicked "activate" which had a dropdown of my 4 cameras (but im only using 2 of the 4 inputs) I unchecked cameras 3 and 4. and boom, the noise stopped.

Ding sound every second or 2... help!

thanks for the quick reply. I've looked in system configure and can't seem to find this setting. any idea which tab would it be under?
  3. Hey guys, I built a geovision DVR system a few months ago and its been working pretty well so far. this BLOWS AWAY the crappy DVR that I was sold with my camera system... the one issue ive been having with it is I get a consistent "ding" sound every second or 2 from the speakers while the software is open. as soon as I close the software, the sound stops. it almost sounds like an alarm of some sort. When I first built this system I just muted the sound and forgot about the problem, but I'd like to find out whats causing this..any ideas or suggestions? the card is a GV-600 PCI and i believe im running the latest version. (at least, it was the latest when I installed it 2 months ago or so) thanks in advance!

    tuning windows 7 for Geovision

Thanks, I just build the computer and did a fresh install of win 7 64, its about as clean as clean can be. (no bloatware needed to be removed) I turned off file indexing and windows search, I'll keep the swap file on the 80 for now. I only have 2 BNC cameras right now, I"ll be adding at least 1 more IP camera at some point down the road. im sure I wont have a problem running it, but I figure while its nice and clean I'd rather configure everything so I won't have to go back in later as I add cameras

    tuning windows 7 for Geovision

Hey folks, I just setup a Win 7 computer for Geovision, used some old parts I had sitting around (Core 2 duo CPU, 4GB ram,) I have an 80GB system drive and a 1.5TB drive where I'll be storing all the video files any suggestions on things I can turn off in win 7 to take up the least amount of resources (any services I can disable? other settings I can change?) I've already gone to advanced settings and selected "best performance" to turn off Aero and al the "pretty" stuff in win 7 that I don't need. just looking for some more "under the hood" type stuff. Also, any recommendations on where to place the swap file? usually in a 2 hard drive system I"ll put the swap file on the 2nd hard drive, but since that drive will be constantly writing video files, I'd assume thats not the best idea. my other idea is "short stroking" the system drive by dividing it into 3 partitions, making the 2nd partition right at the 40GB mark (its an 80GB drive) and placing the swap file there for maximum transfer rate.. thoughts? suggestions? thanks in advance
  6. Hey folks, I'm looking to build a computer to make a DVR camera system to connect to my to BNC cameras. Geovision seems to fit my needs perfectly. I found a GV-600 4ch 30fps card on amazon for 99 bucks. since I only have 2 cameras, they will each record in 15 FPS (right?) which should be more then enough. as far as the computer, im typically an AMD guy, but after a lot of research it looks like intel is the way to go with these systems. I have an older Shuttle KPC that im not using for anything. it originally came loaded with foresight linux but I'll wipe it and throw XP or win 7 on there (suggestions on which would be better?) the computer has a celeron CPU and 512MB ram that im going to upgrade to 2GB, and add a 2Tb hard drive. if the celeron is too underpowered I can upgrade it to a pentium D I have from a previous build. the one thing is that this system only has 1 PCI slot (which is where the geovision card would go) DO I NEED to have a dedicated video card for this? or will it run with the onboard graphics ok? any other suggestions before I buy this card? thanks so much in advance
  7. Thanks for the info. Any suggestions as to where to check out some DVR software? or a certian software you could personally recommend? my needs are pretty basic, just need it to record video when motion is detected on the cameras. and it needs to work with my 2 BNC cameras and and additional IP camera or 2. I'd also like to check the cameras remotely.
  8. Hey folks, I have 2 BNC cameras that are installed frrm a previous DVR system (the DVR broke a while ago). I'm trying to build a new computer to hook these cameras up to, I may add 1 or 2 more IP cameras, but that would be down the road. I'm looking to buy a reasonably priced PCI or pci express capture card to put in a computer any suggestions on what I should look for in a card? or more importantly, which ones to avoid? I want to be able to remote into the camera system to check on it, our last dvr box sucked... even before it broke. it took forever to do anything. how powerful of a computer should I be building? I have a pentium D lieing around I could reuse. give it a 2TB hard drive and 4 GB ram, should that work? or is that overkill? (could i use an Atom of fusion based computer?) Software: is there any good open source software? if not, any suggestions on something thats simple to use yet powerful? the main feature im looking for is motion detection.. so we dont' have hours of useless video footage to sift through if something were to happen. I was trying to find something that maybe has an all inclusive operating system and camera software in the same ISO. We run a linux based Trixbox phone system and this was very simple to install because of this....but im not a linux guy at all. I could build a windows 7 computer if its easier to find software. whats the best way to go with this? I'd appreciate any help i can get with this, bottom line, I just want something that works without spending a ton of money. I own a computer repair shop so the computer parts itself I probably already have lieing around my shop. (with the exception of the capture card) I just need to knwo how powerful of a computer I need and what software to use. thanks in advance for any help! Nick
