    Help with Axis 241S

Is it set up like this? If so, did you allow for the Axis plug in to be loaded on your machine? Do you have any pop-up blockers that may have prevented it from loading?
  2. I am not familiar with that particular unit, but Panasonic does have a tech support line. It is a bit frustrating trying to get to the right person, but once you get there they do usually provide genuine assistance. Good luck.

    Help with Axis 241S

You are getting the no motion warning on the DVR? I wonder if the NVR is having issues dealing with the Axis stream. How do you have it defined in the NVR, it is listed as a camera or as an encoder?

    rs485 problem

Did you try to reverse the wires at the DVR?

    BIzarre trouble.....need help!

You are using the test monitor at the DVR end of the cable? If so, it sounds like the DVR is the issue. If you still have warranty left on the DVR, use it and get a new one. If you have no warranty, it is time to start shopping.
  6. This board and it's attorney sound pretty dang stupid to me. This is quite literally done in THOUSANDS of neighborhoods across the country (and the world) but in this one case there is some precedent not to do it? News flash to the board... your neighborhood isn't special, it doesn't exist in some protected bubble, and your logic is utterly insane. Buying professional equipment installed and maintained by professionals is the right way to go.... case freaking closed.
  7. I am pretty sure the 520 has some export restrictions. I know the 521 is the one typically sold in the USA. EDIT: Now I am confused because the USA Geovision website shows the 521, but here is the main Geovision page on both: http://www.geovisioncn.com/english/3_4_FE520-521.htm

    rs485 problem

You need to set the address and data speed on the NVR to match the setting on the PTZ. Usually when you power cycle the PTZ, it will tell you what it's settings are on the screen.

    Just saying Hi.

    welcome
  10. They do tend to get "gunk" built up on them over time. Usually windex and a soft cloth will solve the issue. Installing them in a maintenance friendly way is always a big plus!
  11. Did you check your router to make sure the ports are still forwarded to the correct IP address?

This is not a port forwarding issue from what you describe here.

    Problem connectivity

We need more information. 1 - have you forwarded the ports necessary in your router? 2 - have you setup a DDNS entry in your router or DVR? and did it show as a valid connection? (only use one not both) 3 - did you verify that the ports you forwarded are indeed open? (use this to figure it out: http://www.canyouseeme.org/) in case this is all confusing and you have no idea what I am talking about, here is a diagram of how it all works:
  16. You could use Dropcam cameras for some of that, but if you want true alarms you will still need to tie in the sensors in the areas where you want them. Have you looked at something like SimpliSafe? I have never used them, but if you want a more DIY solution that might be an option. http://simplisafe.com/
  17. That cable shield has to be grounded also. You need shield bond connectors. http://objects.eanixter.com/PD332249.PDF Dang man, I wish I had seen these about a year ago! I fabricated something very similar by hand out in the field... and it was NOT fun!
  18. Have you tried an isolation transformer on the switch? EDIT: nevermind, I missed the post about the 12 pair wire. I agree that those leftover pairs need to be terminated to ground. I also might not hurt to install something like this between the underground wire and the switch. I would install it as close to your ground rod as possible and then run jumpers to the switch from there. Make sure you include those un-terminated pairs on one of these too just to keep things consistent and bonded.
  19. You could go the opposite route and buy a harsh environment NVR. Typically the ones designed for police or automotive applications seem to work the best. Seneca, Moxa and Sentry all make very good ones. You can see them here: http://www.cctvsentry.com/sentry_NVRrugged.php http://www.moxa.com/product/Industrial_Network_Video_Recorder.htm http://www.senecadata.com/products/digital-security/security-specialty-NVR.aspx This would keep your power requirements down and achieve the same thing. Then you just use a standard ventilated box with fans for heat exchange. The Seneca unit is a BEAST! I have two of them in the field and they have zero issues running in the trunk of an all black police car inside a protective (bulletproof) enclosure with no extra cooling at all.

    interesting observation

Yup, when you remote to a machine the packets still flow thru that machine you are using... sort of. it is not the fulll load as if you were moving the files there, but it does take resources.
  21. I am not sure if the free version of Milestone supports that camera, but it might be worth a shot.
  22. It may be that they used the 2.8mm FOV on accident. Your 59 degree figure is pretty much spot on.

    CCTV Conversion PTZ Issue

Are there any addressing or protocol settings that can be adjusted in Milestone?
  24. I would bet that flat cable with the RJ45 connector is your PTZ controls. I don't see where the power would be hooked up though. Is it possible that is an IP camera? How many wires are in that flat cable? Any other labels or terminal blocks on that thing?

As long as you have a controller that will send the correct RS-485 commands that will absolutely work.
