Problem: RF Interference / Garage Door opener
ssnapier replied to G671's topic in General Digital Discussion
I suppose there could be some freaky harmonics thing going on there, but I am wondering about the quality of your cables and their proximity to the antenna for the door opener. My thought here is maybe the shielding on your coax is jacked up (or super low grade) and you are getting some magnetic interference. I think this would point to more of a ground / isolation problem than anything with the opener. Also, make sure that antenna is hanging down with clear line of sight to the street, I had an issue with that at my house where the opener itself was preventing the clicker from working until I grabbed the antenna from the top of the housing and made it hang straight down. -
There is a newish company that I have been dealing with lately, and they might be perfect for you. These guys are using Hikvision cameras branded as their own (pretty common actually), and they make nice software and appliance type NVR's that should fit the bill quite well. Please bear in mind though, if you need an outside installer to come in and get it all hung and installed, that budget figure will be seriously challenged. If you can install and configure it internally, you should be right there in the ballpark. Here is the link to check them out: http://www.ipvideocorp.com/products/CamerasEncoders/tabid/146/Default.aspx The website is nothing special, but the people actually care and they are SUPER responsive to support issues, so there is a lot to be said for that.

The new Mobotix software is going to be pretty amazing!
ssnapier replied to ssnapier's topic in General Digital Discussion
They are also releasing a dual-technology radar sensor to allow for speed based alarm triggers or speed based motion recording triggers. He said the range of the sensor is roughly 10 meters, but I think it can be remotely installed away from the camera to give you extended range for fast moving targets. I wonder if this is a push to get Mobotix based speed cameras for law enforcement? I can think of some other physical security uses for it, but speed cameras would be pretty interesting. -

These guys are talking about stuff that is really starting to make sense now, I think people are going to be seriously happy when this stuff is finally released. They are going to include the ability to use h.264 streams directly and sometime after that they will actually even include ONVIF. That is a shocking development for those that know what their stance on ONVIF had been up to this point. They have also announced a few other cool little toys and updates that will really, really make integrators happier people. -

Yeah it is only in Alpha right now too. They have a few live cameras running on it during this conference, but they are mixed with recorded stuff. Dr. Hinkel got up on stage and was talking about people that have been fired and what they are doing to try to right some of the wrongs from the past. It was pretty incredible to see him just being right up front with it all. He also made everyone laigh, but he was 100% serious whehn he announced the automatic failover stuff. He said he got a call an hour before his presentation that it will be released to the public in 3 weeks, and his response to that was "either it will happen or we will have a great deal fewer developers" so he has taken the reigns back in a very big way and I think they are definitely on the right track now. Of course that doesn't mean it will be an overnight thing, but my bet is that within the next 18 months to 2 years there will be an epic rush back to these guys. -
Possible ways to do remote DVR access w/o PORT FORWARDING?
ssnapier replied to BrownChiLD's topic in Computers/Networking
That is not even close to true and if you take the time to do a search on here you will see a few hundred posts to prove it. -

Simon what has been your findings about frame rate on the 15 series cameras? I have not had a chance to install one yet, so I am looking for some info. -
Man, I wish I had known about this about a year ago, I would have saved myself a ton of cash! http://open.konspyre.org/blog/2012/10/18/raspberry-pi-time-server/

In "service ports" on your router, you enter the port number you want to use (your HTTP port is shown as 87 on the DVR so use that) and then in the server IP you enter the address of your DVR which is 192.168.20.5, that should do the trick. Are you good with your public IP? As for not working in Chrome, that is probably an ActiveX thing and pretty common. PM me if you need someone to try and test it from elsewhere in the world and I will give it a shot for you and report back with a screen shot of what I see.
-
The only way we can help is if you post screen shots of both the DVR and the router, plus take a screen shot of whatismyIP.com and PPM it to me so I can see you public IP. Lastly draw me a quick picture of how you have things wired up. On top of that, how is your PC configured and is it possible that there is some filter or corporate access policy restricting your ability to get to that port? You have no issues at all accessing it locally?

I really hope this helps you make sense of it, I saved this one on my web server so I don't have to re-create it again. For router specific instructions, please visit http://www.portforward.com

LSZH is only a requirement if there will be people in that tunnel, it is a fire hazard and a very serious threat to human life to use standard or even plenum cable in a tunnel. As for the daisy chain, I would make them draw you a diagram of exactly how that is supposed to work because that make no sense to me at all! If they do give you a drawing, I would love to see it!

DAQ is the brand I work with on a daily basis, and they can handle anything. The other brand I work with that scales extremely well is Galaxy. Rosslare isn't too bad either, but I have never used them on anything bigger than 4 doors, so I cannot speak to scaling it up. If you wanted to stay IP based for everything take a look at brands like Paxton or Isonas. Here is the DAQ stuff I would recommend, it is POE powered and can also talk directly to building automation systems (lighting, HVAC, etc.). PM me for what their dealer pricing is so you know what you would be looking at (click the picture to get more info).

I am pretty sure you will need the RTSP addresses to make GV cameras work with Blue Iris. -
Stuck with GEN4 Hughesnet HOW CAN I VIEW CAMERAS HELP!!!!
ssnapier replied to dragonass's topic in Computers/Networking
Well no modem does port forwarding, that is handled at the router. Are you saying that Hughes blocks non-standard ports? I suggest starting here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm and here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28373038-how-to-port-forwarding-with-hughes-satellite-internet there are also TONS of posts on this forum about port forwarding and I have drawn pictures in some of them, so do a few searches and post back if you have issues. ... good luck! -

Some of the lower end NVR's will not accept SSL for email, which way is your email setup? -
If I am understanding you correctly that should work, but I wold not daisy chain anything using RS232, that would lead to a giant mess.

Power over ethernet questions
ssnapier replied to redsleeve's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Routerboard typically uses 24 volt injection for their non-standard version of POE. Their hardware is excellent, but the POE weirdness never made any sense to me. -
Yup, this with a small UPS, plus a UPS on your router/ switch / modem so you can see it thru your phone / tablet at all times... done. My other suggestion that might be a tiny bit more money, but gives you flexibility later on when the kid is mobile would be this (the UPS stuff still applies): http://foscam.us/foscam-fi9826w-white-megapixel-wireless-ip-camera.html

HDD Capacity randomly reduces
ssnapier replied to knightblackboat's topic in General Digital Discussion
In general, it is pretty good. I have had a few drives trip the SMART sensor, but when I ran the drive thru SpinRite, there was no issue at all. I would say that is a 1 in 100, probably higher then that actually. -
Would you use recording to NAS in big Enterprise solution ? Yes, I have two clients right now with appx. 200 cameras each (3MP) and the entire thing is being stored for 90 days. That is several hundred TB of storage, all on NAS.

I do it all the time, as long as the software understands where to put the video and where to grab it from for playback, there should be no issues.

Question regarding simple 1 camera setup - Powerline + POE?
ssnapier replied to berserkr's topic in System Design
I am just not a huge fan of power line networking, but that is just personal preference. As far as reliability goes, if you can get a signal strength of -60 or stronger (closer to zero is better) I would have no worries about reliability with a wireless link. -
So those are limited to a mile (5280 feet) which leaves you 2220 feet short of your target distance. Those cannot be daisy chained, so unless I am missing something it seems to me that fiber is really the only reliable option. If this is for a single camera, you might be able to use a 900Mhz wireless system but you still need power on both ends for that unless there is a solar option with battery backup. Also, are you aware that you have to use LS-ZH cable for anything being run inside a tunnel? If I had to guess, I would say cable costs alone for just the power are easily going to be $40,000 without any other equipment or a minute of labor figured in.
