NVR with two network ports... what the heck??
ssnapier replied to dorough's topic in Computers/Networking
What info should I put into the Primary Network menu? Please post a screen shot of this menu, I am not sure what they are looking for and don't want to send you on a wild goose chase. -
I meant that your calculations on the power sound correct, so that part is handled. Which NVT units are you using for this and have you considered using fiber optics?
-
The power is not the problem, what is your plan to get the video signal to travel that distance?

CCTV DVR Accept only 2tb How to get 3tb to work?
ssnapier replied to nj2012's topic in General Digital Discussion
You just asked "I bought ten pounds of poop and a bag that says I can only put 5 pounds in it, how do I fix this?" If there is no firmware update available, return the 3TB hard drive and put a 2TB back in there. -
NVR with two network ports... what the heck??
ssnapier replied to dorough's topic in Computers/Networking
Just hook the Comcast gateway to the 16 port switch and that should be that. Leave the 2nd port on the NVR empty, it is probably a management or troubleshooting port. -
HDD Capacity randomly reduces
ssnapier replied to knightblackboat's topic in General Digital Discussion
What is your biggest concern here? Are you worried that it will not record enough days for your needs, or are you just watching the numbers on your DVR with no regard to their usefulness? As long as the DVR is recording, and overwriting as it should when it get near capacity, there is no issue at all. 99% of the DVR's out there handle this with no problem so I would not worry about it. If you need to record more total days, just upgrade the HDD to a larger size and move on to the next issue. -
Motion Detection Camera Options
ssnapier replied to FreeLunch's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well, the first thing you can do is define the motion zones to exclude areas you know will set off false positives. You can also play with the sensitivity of the system to see if that gets you what you are looking for. This will be a bit of a trial and error process, but if most of these are at night adding extra light is never a bad idea. -
Question regarding simple 1 camera setup - Powerline + POE?
ssnapier replied to berserkr's topic in System Design
If you already have wi-fi setup at your house, the easiest way with a single camera would be to make it wireless using something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-PC-Laptop-XBOX-PlayStation-etc/dp/B008CV8ST4 You just position that in the garage in a spot that has a good strong signal to your home router and you are good to go. Here is a very basic drawing of how that would work: -
Honestly, I would go with Foscam as long as you are not looking at things too terribly far away. In a typical room, those will be more than adequate and they work with Blue Iris.

3-Camera Array: Distance Between Cameras?
ssnapier replied to PeteCress's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hopefully this helps you visualize it. The angles I drew on here are not super precise, but they will be awfully close. You would be able to cover roughly 100 feet across, 30 feet away from the cameras. That is of course with the cameras spaced 20 feet apart. At 10 foot spacing you would have a total coverage of roughly 80 feet -
3-Camera Array: Distance Between Cameras?
ssnapier replied to PeteCress's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What type (brand and model) of camera did you purchase? This will require a bit of sketching and layout I think, but my guess is that you could align them pretty well. I will probably space them out roughly 10 feet from each other and provide just a bit of overlap between them for reference. Give me some specs and I will try to draw a picture of what is in my head right now. -

ssnapier replied to smcctv's topic in Computers/Networking
The orange router most likely. I am betting that the BT modem is setup just to be a bridge. -

HOW serious is the malware issue in Hikvision Recorders
ssnapier replied to SECUCHUCK's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Maybe I missed something, can you share a link that would give me more information on this issue? -
If it had been just me in the car I would have let him hit me.
-
I edited these together to make it easier to watch. This was me with my family on Saturday, and these insane old people start walking across the street at the top of the hill. Meanwhile this idiot behind us awfully close to hitting us but I swerve left to avoid him. The old people are 100% oblivious to their impending doom.... sheesh... The dashcam is a Urive Shotgun, and both images are actually 1080P when they are unedited. 863UD9FNg2I

Had I just stopped and not checked my rearview mirror, that could have been UGLY!

Color code Pinout RJ45 AVTECH AVM 459B
ssnapier replied to Sheikmans's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just use a multi-meter and ohm out each pin to it's corresponding wire. -
Interesting idea for sure, what kind of back end hardware is required for this? Also what kind of cameras are you using for this, are they IP or analog and at what height are they being mounted?
-
The problem is a lot more than money, I think you need a much clearer understanding of how a microphone works. Unless you are using HIGHLY directional microphones and you know exactly where the voices you want to capture are coming from this is not a task with pursuing. The microphones I am talking about will cost 3 or 4 times what the camera cost by the way.

Swann/Hikvision waterproof connector damaged:
ssnapier replied to 15734's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
L-com sells waterproof connectors that should do the trick if you need the weatherproofing. Otherwise just get a standard module jack and replace it then cover it with a liberal amount of quality electrical tape after you plug in your cable. The tape will provide a bit of strain relief and also help to prevent accidental unplugging in the future. http://www.l-com.com/ethernet-weather-resistant-harsh-environment
