It would need to be modulated to use the coax on your TV, just get a BNC to RCA adapter and plug it in to the RCA video jack, that will take care of it.

ssnapier replied to leemeng83's topic in General Digital Discussion
Every DVR I have will accept a USB hard drive with no problem. It see that just the same as a flash drive. -
Did you look at http://www.portforward.com to see if that particular model is listed? If so, that may show you what the trick is.

Question about Axis video encoders
ssnapier replied to nenea dani's topic in General Digital Discussion
They are all pretty good, the only real difference is if you need a ruggedized verison for outdoor use or if you require an SD card to record locally. Some of them may also have an option for POE to save you from needing an extra power source for the encoder. -
I'm overwhelmed with all of the choices
ssnapier replied to tekkendork's topic in General Digital Discussion
Several manufacturers have their own mobile apps, so maybe a third party can be avoided. It may or may not be discussed in the product literature that ships with the unit. Check their website, that is always the best way to find out. -
I have an older one from a previous job that you can use to get yourself going in the right direction. Email me and I will send it tomorrow when I get to my office. snapier (at) the-psg (dot) com

There are several encorders with SD card slots, and they can do everything in one box. It does not look like the Avigilon encoders off SD slots, but all of these do: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/4-Channel-Video-Server-p/vivotek-vs8401.htm http://www.axis.com/products/cam_q7401/ http://www.panasonic.com/business/psna/products-surveillance-monitoring/encoders-decoders/WJ-GXE500.aspx http://www.aliexpress.com/item/EV-101S-H-264-Economic-Network-Video-Server-For-cctv-system-Support-SD-CARD/552367959.html Many different options, these were just off the top of my head and a quick google search.

The Axis video servers are excellent devices that will do everything you require. The Avigilon encoders are might nice too and I think they are cheaper.

Controlling five workstations with one keyboard & mouse
ssnapier replied to CCTVBUK's topic in Computers/Networking
I don't recall ever trying it that way, but I think it would work. If I were going to do that, I would use a manual KVM and label each screen with the channel it was using on the KVM. That way you can reduce confusion as to which screen you are controlling. -

Only useful if he is still using PS/2 keyboard and mouse (which I doubt) -

A KVM switch is a very common thing, and the setup is pretty straightforward. Here is one example of such a device, but there are MANY so shop around! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817107420 Some of the nicer ones will have a hotkey to switch it simply using the keyboard. The one we use most often uses the scroll lock button. You hit scroll lock twice and then the UP arrow, and it switches sources. The sources are labeled on screen, and you can program those labels as required. I would expect to pay between 200 and 400 for a decent one. -
Avtech Eagle Eyes not working with Sky Broadband

FYI, Avtech offers free DDNS services: http://www.avtech.com.tw/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=261:do-i-have-to-pay-for-ddns&catid=79&lang=en http://www.agidvr.com/FileDownload.aspx?FileName=AGI_VC-SYS-4WPVH_$M_How-to-Setup-AVtech-DDNS_NA.pdf -
Automatic port forwarding is known as UPnP, but it is not a 100% accurate tool and there have been some documented security risks with leaving it on. Port forwarding is really not that difficult. You are just telling your router which door to send the data through and which device to talk to once it is thru the door. There are TONS of posts on this forum about port forwarding, and I have given at least three rather detailed explanations of how this works. Go do a search and then use portforward.com... trust me, this is not rocket science.

was I wrong about that being a feature of the camera then?
-
I would look for something with a varifocal lens and at least 600TVL. Also, make sure it lists an IP66 rating since it will be outdoors. A lot of the cameras in the range you are looking at are all just re-branding each other. You will also need a power supply for this camera, a monitor to view it and a DVR to record the images. If just want to view it live with no recording, then no DVR is required. You could also look at HD-SDI camera if you want a bit better image quality, but those cameras are going to be pushing right up to your budget limit. I have a few different brands I could show you, but I don't want to break the forum rules. PM me if you want to discuss this further.

Avtech Eagle Eyes not working with Sky Broadband
ssnapier replied to philn67's topic in Computers/Networking
The DVR is your server in this case, and is should have an option in there somewhere for DDNS information. You will plug in the domain name and you account info so the DVR knows where to report your IP changes to. -

ssnapier replied to philn67's topic in Computers/Networking
It sounds like you simply need a dynamic DNS client. I am betting your public IP address has changed, so you just need your DVR to register itself with a DDNS service so that your public IP is always accurate. This article will explain what I am talking about if you are not familiar with it: http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Set_Up_Dynamic_DNS -
The Avigilon software doesn't support it because that is a feature of the camera in nearly all IP systems. What cameras are you trying to use here?

While these are all good tips, I am pretty sure this just was a basic networking oversight. -

You need to add the port to the end of the second address, since port 80 is the default port. So it should be 192.168.1.210:81 and that should take care of it.
