I use ADI for a lot of stuff, but you might want to take a long hard look at Accu-tech. They have been around forever and they are FANTASTIC to work with. I also use a smaller distributor called Global Security Systems (GSS) and they have treated me very well. They are very smart on CCTV stuff, especially the IP side of things and they have always gone above and beyond when I had things on extreme timelines. If you do go with GSS ask for Bill Plunkett and tell him that Scott Napier sent you. I get nothing for it, but it might get you a much warmer welcome than a random new guy off the street.

It is expensive because it delivers images that are actually useful. Bargain shop if you want to, but when it counts your bargain will get you absolutely nothing useful .

You don't need the telnet password, you need an FTP account.... very, very different thing.

I am using both LTS and Lorex DVR's with IE11 and both work fine. You might try clearing the security settings and the cache to see if it thinks the Active X control thinks it is already installed.

Q-see for sure.

Wired is always best if possible, just make sure you protect that wiring from the sharp objects bad guys like to carry around.

How do you find a good residential installer?

As a security guy my feelings are officially hurt.... oh wait... not really, this is just the internet! -

Send a PM to "thewireguys" on here, he can take care of you and does fantastic work. I will send him a text right now to make sure he pops in and sees this. -

Well they are doing trade shows, so maybe this is just a supply chain hiccup. Why not ask them directly? http://contralube.com/contact-us/

Small Business System Design Recommendations
ssnapier replied to Wall-e's topic in General Digital Discussion
Ok, while I fully understand working on a budget I need to make sure you understand that the purpose of using CCTV systems is to acquire usable evidence that can be turned over to police/ lawyers for prosecution. 99% of those super budget systems are not going meet that goal. If you just want to see a VERY general overview of activity without any intent of using it for catching bad guys doing bad things then go for it. If you want to use this for it's actual purpose I would suggest look very hard ant increasing that budget. I would also STRONGLY recommend that you look at cameras with varifocal lenses. That by itself massively increases your ability to get that usable evidence I mentioned before. The cheapest varifocal cameras I know of (that would do what I am saying here) are about $89 each. So if you do that math of $89 x the 9 cameras you mentioned that is $801. The DVR will cost appx. $450-500 plus you still need wireless gear for your two out buildings which is probably another $150 each. By the way, I never even mentioned the cables, connectors, and a power supply to make all of this gear work. Let's say you bought pre-made cables for each camera, that is another $75-100 for cables and $40ish for a half decent power supply. Using these figures your budget needs to be more like $1700. That is the number where you will get a system that truly provides benefits to your business. -
guide to setting up a mobotix camera for dummies?
ssnapier replied to paupar's topic in General Digital Discussion
You can download a very well put together starters guide for Mobotix gear from MxInstaller.com. It is not free, but I think it only cost like 2 or 3 dollars. Here is a direct link to the guide: http://www.mxinstaller.com/tag/mobotix-starter-guide/ -
If you put a monitor on the DVR and control it directly from there do you have the same issues?
-
ahhhhhh, ok... The remote computer throws a big wrench in the works because it adds a bit of unpredictable latency.
-
What kind of design are you trying to accomplish? I use a piece of software from http://www.jvsg.com/ and I am pretty sure it has a trial period if you only needed it short term.

Wait a second, are using a physical joystick or are you using the software interface in the DVR software?

New to this and could use some help
ssnapier replied to prophetkb's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would suggest contacting these guys and see what they can do for you. http://www.intersil.com/content/intersil/en/products/audiovideo/security-surveillance/video-decoders/TW2804.html?_charset_=UTF-8 -
I guess it depends on how the control is written. I have seen some of them move until you stop it and some only move until you release the mouse button. As for the long runs attenuating, you can go hundreds of feet before that is an issue. How long are we talking here?

Using Swann DVRs-can NTP be turned on and off at will?
ssnapier replied to cirtemid's topic in General Digital Discussion
You can use the same server for all of them if you wish. Some DVR's give you options for more than one NTP server which is why I gave you so many. -
Completely New. Over 40 fast food locations. Need advice.
ssnapier replied to shatteredreamer's topic in General Digital Discussion
This is a bit off topic, but I tell you what I have used a few different LTS analog systems and I have been impressed so far. There are a few funky bits on the menu that could be explained better, but overall they are might good for the money. -
Yes, that is quite common actually. The PTZ's each have an address, so you set each one to a different address and the cameras sort it all out.

Using Swann DVRs-can NTP be turned on and off at will?
ssnapier replied to cirtemid's topic in General Digital Discussion
That is crazy talk! If you use a decent NTP server, it will handle the dang DST adjustments for you! 0.pool.ntp.org 1.pool.ntp.org 2.pool.ntp.org use those! -
We typically use 9600, Iwould not worry about errors until you get above 15200.

Remotely access the local admin pages
ssnapier replied to wbmurray's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah, sorry about that. I forgot to mention that nearly all low-mid range DVR's require Active X controls and must be on IE. I am glad you got it sorted it out though, have fun! -
