    2mp IP ptz over wifi

Ideally you want to make sure you wifi signal strength is above -65dB (closer to zero is stronger) so that you have enough fade margin to deal with weather and other interference.

    "All-in-One" or Build my own

I just did some quick math on an 8 camera IP system with 2MP bullet cameras, a 16ch. NVR, and a single 2TB hard drive. You are looking at a range between $4900 and $5500 plus installation. That included cable, connectors, junction boxes (for outdoors) and POE power sources. Good luck with your search, but now at least you have some numbers to work with. Just for comparison an analog system of the same size (that I would be comfortable selling, supporting, or using at my own house) will be in the $1900 - $2500 range. That includes pre-made 100' cables, power supplies, junction boxes and 700TVL varifocal cameras with IR.

    "All-in-One" or Build my own

You can get an analog system in that range pretty easily, but IP stuff will be pushing it. I think you might get close to that, but off the top of my head I would say your budget is a tiny bit low.
  7. I would like to find one that is POE powered, but POE power is not a deal breaker. I need to run a few thermal cameras and I would rather not mount enclosures if I can avoid it, which is why POE would be useful since I could power them from my wireless bridge. Any suggestions on a product that meets these needs? Two channel of 4 channel, I don't care, just not single channel.

Looking for an outdoor rated video server

Why not just use IP thermal cameras? It is customer provided equipment, so I am stuck with it. These are older FLIR SR-19's and they are tough as can be, just not ideal.

Looking for an outdoor rated video server

Except that is an NVR and I need an encoder (video server).
  10. I would buy a higher quality drive (WD Red or WD Black) and a case to put them in.
  11. My company works in the DC area, I will try to catch up with you on MSN but if you see this first I am sure we can help.

    Computer upgrade. i7 pr SSD

I tend to stick with 2TB drives in places where I want reliability, but I am hoping you have good luck with it... seriously. 3TB drives would be awesome to use going forward, but if you look at the prices for enterprise grade 3TB drives, I think we are not quite there yet in terms of reliability.

You could slap a RAID controller in there and make your cameras record to a small RAID array as your budget allows. I have to ask... what model number are those hard drives? I am asking because consumer grade 3TB drives are not very good at handling to load placed on them by IP cameras. The platter density simply does not stand up to the constant writing.
  15. I have to do a Geovision install next week, and I wanted to know if their service was still up and running. If not, I will need to plan accordingly.

Router can not handle 3 IP cameras

What type of compression are you using?

You never mention what video card you are planning to use, I have found that even on custom built i7 machines, a video card with 3 or 4 GB of RAM makes a TON of difference. I should mention though, that I am only doing this kind of stuff on systems with 3MP and higher cameras, so you be the judge.
  18. I would suggest going back to the place that sold it to you, or their website, to see if there is a manual or some type of support FAQ that might help you solve your issues.
  19. Instead of putting it on your person why not position a camera a eye level behind you with a decent zoom to get in nice and tight on her face?

    Will Swann work with Lorex

Analog is analog as far as the DVR is concerned. As long as it sends a video signal back to the DVR it will work. The only question is powering the camera if you need to share power supplies, I would just verify that they will play nice together on that front and you will be good. My guess is that they are both 12VDC, but just double check that.
  21. Depends on how the building is laid out, but I would use two or three wireless access points to do that. The only reason I say to use that many is to ensure good signal strength at all times. Of course if the area is very open, you can reduce that figure. Here is a sample image of a WAP layout from a long time ago.
  22. I was at a customer’s store today and I noticed something rather odd (and frustrating). Since I don't use NUUO that often, i was looking for a bit of help. The software has it’s own setting for camera resolution that seems to ignore whatever the resolution is set to in the camera. When I turn it up to XGA or higher, it forces me to view only one of the two lenses, even if the actual camera image (thru it's browser interface) is showing me both lenses. If I turn the resolution down to 800×600 in NUUO, I then get both lenses again. What in the world causes this?
  23. I have never used Blue Iris, but that sounds like a very good improvement!
  24. I am looking at this camera for use in a budget strapped project. Just curious if anyone has used this unit before. The price is quite good (under 175 shipped) but it is new to me, so I was just looking for some feedback if you have any. http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/upload/editorSource/2f27aaf9f29ec06d9cc78d68d9974128.pdf
