  1. This is an older unit, but still works great. It takes multi-mode fiber and runs off of 12 VDC or 12 VAC. It is model number VT1500WDM and it is set up for a single strand of fiber. You can extend your cable up to 2.5 miles with this device. PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING COST!
  2. This is a great little device and works like a champ. It takes single mode fiber on an ST connector. It was removed from a housing, so it has the brackets to mount in a housing (or anywhere else). Power can be 12VDC or 24VAC.
  3. We had issues with this between my home and office servers. The ISP changed some settings that screwed up the routing. You may want to give them a call and see what they can do.
  4. I think you can use WD-RED drives without too much worry. As for the operating system, yeah it is ususally flash based and not on the hard drives.

In need of mid range PTZ IP camera

I like the Panasonic WV-SC384, it has a great picture and the menu is pretty easy to work thru. I think it is in the $1000 range, but I am sure you can find it for 10-15% less than that.

Mobotix can do that with the QCamPro app.

Newbie looking for low end IP Camera

How about this: http://.com/cameras/hi-def-ip-cameras/1-3-mp.html EDIT: not sure why this address was filtered, but that seems pretty childish... what gives?
  8. I am not comfortable discussing the legal aspects here (taxes, paperrwork, etc.) but as for the sales side of it, I highly recommend making an investment in this piece of software: http://www.saleztoolz.com/ Take the time to set it up properly and this will greatly help this person you are considering.

    Axis and iPhone

I have been quite happy with QCamPro for both Apple and Android products.
  10. After a very long wait, this app has finally been released. Link to AppStore download Some notes about the app itself (from Mobotix): Your tablet and smartphone as a mobile remote station: With the combination of the Hemispheric IP Video Door Station and the MOBOTIX App, we offer a unique system, which guarantees considerable advantages thanks to its allround view with no blind spots and global connectivity. Your mobile device will prompt you if visitors ring your doorbell, allowing you to see the visitors live and to talk to them. You can also open the door remotely with a tap. Besides seeing recorded events (e.g. someone pressed the doorbell), you can also check the mailbox messages recorded by visitors. To improve your security even further during the night or when you are away, the system can send an alarm message to the App as soon as the door is opened. Mobile remote station for MOBOTIX cameras and door stations All MOBOTIX cameras with a firmware of 4.1.4.70 or higher can be integrated into the App without costly additional devices. Bandwidth-optimized remote access via WLAN (Wi-Fi) or Internet Camera data is transmitted to the App in accordance with the available bandwidth of the network. Live images and recordings in the best MOBOTIX HiRes quality MOBOTIX stands for excellent image quality that can be used intelligently with the App. Two-way communication, door opening and video mailbox access The multifunctional MOBOTIX App offers many more options than simple standard viewers. Car Survailence

There are a lot of Chinese low-end options for this, but that Mobilewatchman system looks pretty dang good. If you want to go bargain basement shopping, head over to aliexpress and search for Taxicab DVR.
  12. This is primarily focused on the S14 an T24, but all "4" series cameras apply to this update. Link to firmware Here are the release notes for this version:
  13. I need a rather long lens for an LPR application. Using JVSG's design tool, 35mm seems to be the sweet spot to get the view I need. I would like to give myself a fair bit of latitude for real world issues that a simulated image will not account for though. Since I never buy this kind of thing, I don't want to just go out and buy some crap without knowing it is a quality lens. What do you suggest?
  14. Just plug in directly to the router and bypass the modem... after you figure it out, make a label with the address on it and stick it to the router! Have you checked to see if Netgear has a locator tool? Some companies offer a little piece of software that is kind of like a "wizard" that will go out and find their devices.

    Router Repeater Help

Change your Linksys IP to 1.2 instead of 2.1 and then it is far easier.
  17. I need an experienced CCTV or Telecom installer for a 3 or 4 week gig in Silver Spring, MD. If you know someone who has the time and can do the job tell me. It will start in roughly 2 weeks. We can include a hotel room if required (Comfort Inn is what we are planning on).
  18. I don't know the specifics of that show, but most likely those are production cameras and not CCTV cameras. The hardware and management tools are quite a bit more complicated and robust than your average (or most above average) CCTV management systems.

    RS485 cabling problem

I have used VGA cable for RS-485 before and I did it for nearly 100 feet. The 485 protocol is much more tolerant than ethernet, so I would not really be concerned with that type of run.
  23. Here is the product page for the EURS line: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=150 To clarify this is NOT recommended for RAID setups, and I can testify to the horrible results if you were going to try it. We tested two 4 bay NAS units with these drives, one in RAID 5 and one in RAID 6 with 10 cameras going to each. I had three drive failure in six months. If you need an equivalent drive for RAIDor critical data purposes, you want the RED line seen here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810 The part numbers are WD20EFRX for 2TB and WD30EFRX for 3TB. There is a true enterprise drive above that, but the costs go up quickly. If you wanted to check them out look at the FYYZ line, the last letter varies a bit, but that is referred to as the RE line.
  24. You are talking about using the same hard drive? I used to have issues like this when I recorded to SD cards that were not rated correctly for the task.
  25. Yeah, I use those all the time and I have zero issues with them. I wonder if you maybe got a faulty drive. What sort of hardware are you using this drive in?
