  1. What model number is the drive?
  2. glad you got it sorted out! " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" />
  3. This is just about the hardest thing to accomplish with CCTV. You need the right angle (usually less than 20 degrees) the right height (typically cameras mounted at less than 8 feet) and usually the exposure turned down, plus a filter to get rid of all the rest of the "stuff" in the image. That camera has to be dedicated to that purpose, and even if you get all that right the average result is still only get about 75% accuracy!
  4. I have very good success with the LT Security POE Switch, it is 4 POE ports and an uplink port. It is nothing special at all, but the thing works and works and works and they are under $75 typically. The 8 port switch they sell stinks though because it is not smart and the ports are always hot. It works, but if you have non-POE devices I would wire one RJ-45 without the wires on pins 4,5,7 & 8.

    IP Camera Software

I mis-stated that a bit. You will need MxServer to do the recording for you, unless you just want to use FTP or something else. If you want to be able to search and playback thru MxCC, you will need to use MxServer in conjunction with MxCC but that can be done on one machine.

    IP Camera Software

Mobotix Control Center will support those, but you can only record continuous thru there.... just another free (but limited) option. The live views would be quite good though.

    IP Camera Software

I think you could run two systems and use the free Axis software with 16 camera each... right? http://www.axis.com/products/cam_companion_software/index.htm

    12V power over a 250' Run

When you say heavy extension cords, please make sure you have actual larger wires and not just thick insulation. I would use no small than 12AWG cord if it were stuck in that position, but I might even make one out of direct burial 10AWG wire with good quality weather proof plugs on each end. Oh and PLEASE make sure you are using GFCI!
  9. I have been thinking SSD would solve this problem, of course to buy one that would even come close to adequate would dang near bankrupt me!

    12V power over a 250' Run

Just as a rule of thumb, I never run DC voltage more than 30 feet.
  11. have you looked at portforward.com yet?

    Pelco DVR5100 UPS

I don't, why not send an email to Pelco and ask them?

    Pelco DVR5100 UPS

Ok, then you just need to find the command that would initiate a shutdown on the DVR and you are good!

Does your UPS have an RS-232 output?
  15. Did you file a warranty claim?
  16. What is the output of the POS? If you are using RS-232, there are options out there for sure.
  17. WiMax is an type of large area wi-fi that is slowly going away. My guess is that you are having port routing issues. I am going to need a bit more info about your situation though. What type of router are you using, and what have you done to try and resolve the issue already?
  18. 3M splice tape does an excellent job at weatherproofing connectors, in fact it is just about the perfect tool for the job. It is thicker than normal electrical tape and it seals to itself and forms an impregnable shell. Just make sure you stretch it as you apply it because that is what "activates" the sealing properties of the tape. You can get it with the liner or without. If you are going to only use it now and then, get the one with the liner, it stores better. There are also military grade BNC connectors designed for ultra harsh environments but they are VERY pricey and not really worth it because they are miserable to terminate.

    What's your favorite FPS?

SInce most of my work is with Mobotix stuff, I have to play with the exposure settings first to reduce blur on most cameras. I would say the fps I use most often is 12 or 16. Anything over that is just a waste in most cases.

How to get external IP remotely

If they start asking questions, lie about it. Very professional. beat me to it... not a good plan!

    Does this exist?

It is not a pinhole, but it would certainly be discreet. If you got Mobotix S14 with both a day and night sensor, it would fit all of the other needs easily. All the would be exposed is the lens face, and you would also have the ability to record or trigger events based on audio too (the microphone is amazingly sensitive!).
  22. Have you ruled out Mobotix or have you just not taken a look at them?
  23. Well here is the thing... if you don't need a lot of video during hours of darkness just about anything works as long as you work within the limits of the lenses. Hook them up, do a few tests to get the views you are happy with and then mount them. This is absolutely a get what you pay for kind of industry, but don't over think it. You have a specific need, and you have a limited budget so work with it and build on it later if you need to. If you DO need video in the dark, just go to Lowe's and buy a few light fixtures to help you out from both a video evidence standpoint and a pure deterrent standpoint.
