What do you think about face recognition based systems?
ssnapier replied to Hard working man's topic in General Digital Discussion
Honestly the only thing that comes to mind is a VERY low cost, and license free, VMS that could handle an unlimited amount of IP cameras (obviously you need to buy hardware to keep up). If you had a VMS that cost $200 or less and was able to handle the top 25 or 30 IP camera brands. I full realize the ridiculousness of that, but it would be awesome! -

Try using the wayback machine, maybe you will get lucky.

ssnapier replied to Hard working man's topic in General Digital Discussion
It is a VERY tough thing to get right with the level of accuracy that most people would expect. I have not used a ton of it, but I have evaluated several flavors and the best I could get was about 65-75% accuracy and that is just not good enough in my opinion. The lighting conditions, hats, jackets, scarves, and a thousand other things make it just about impossible unless you have a checkpoint where people would specifically have to remove all that junk. I think the accuracy rate would increase with two cameras from opposite angles. You would not have a valid hit until both cameras have the same match. Of course the complexity and cost of developing a system like that goes up quite a bit too. -
If you ping the DDNS address it will first resolve that name to the correct IP, and that is shown on the screen.

Installers to cooperate on a job Basingstoke UK wanted

PM to be sent shortly... I know a guy that would be great for this. -
I personally hate Geovision stuff, their software annoys me to no end and the image quality is pretty good, but not anything spectacular. I would use Axis stuff every single time if those were my only two choices. I am also betting you can get cheaper prices thru a different distributor too.

It is very nice... startup is much faster and access times for applications is pretty quick too (assuming you put them there).

Why is it that clients always think they want covert cameras
ssnapier replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
If there is a sign posted, there cannot really be an entrapment issue the way I understand the law. You have notified people of your intent to record and monitor them, so it does not matter if they can see the device or not. Once they pass that sign, they have effectively granted consent. -
Yup Neutech beat me to it, I was going to suggest a power issue. Try a larger gauge of wire... but obviously first take measurements to see if that is the issue.

Call Lorex and ask them? -
Pretty good value for money and rock solid reliability.

ssnapier replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
Well, you would still be legally obligated to post signs that stated video recording was taking place so I agree with you that hidden cameras would be pointless in most cases. There are some coses where a mixed of covert and overt works well though. We have some covert cameras in the back rooms of some night clubs (where they count money, store certain high end booze, prize vaults, etc.) and in those cases it makes perfect sense. I love watching the owner's face when I ask them how they intend to isolate the room long enough for us to complete the install... they never seem to think about that part! I have even had one guy at a swanky country club think about it for a second and he came back with "I will just close the whole place for 24 hours, and I don't even want to know where you put it. Don't tell me at all, and don't put it on the drawings either." That one caught me a bit off guard, but I did what he asked. About 6 months later he called me because he was going bonkers trying to find the cameras. I got there and he changed his mind "I don't want to know". He even paid extra for a third DVR, just for the covert stuff. He also INSISTED that we intentionally run extra wires (to nowhere) just to make it harder to trace them back if someone got that smart. As if that wasn't enough he had me install a 16 character password that only my guys knew so that no one (including him) could see the views and figure out where the covert stuff was placed. The really cool part was the site visit fee we got to charge every time he needed some video off of those cameras. -
I was just sent an invitation to bid on a school project and they have some IDview stuff listed by part number. Based on the prices, I am going to say this is VERY low end stuff (or they have their prices all screwed up). Just looking for some first hand feedback about this company and the quality of their stuff. DVR is this one: http://www.idview.com/IDVIEW/Products/DVR/assets/h264/IV-811ZJECO.pdf

It is about the ability to zoom and see details not previously available unless you installed more cameras. Would you rather have one 29MP camera or 5 (or more) standard VGA cameras?

SCAMMERS attempting to obtain CCTV equipment
ssnapier replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
That would almost be worth rigging up the box with a 3G camera to record them and email you when it was opened! -
I just got a request to put CCTV into a car, which is normally not an issue but in this case I am thinking it will be tricky. He wants recording triggers from every sensor (doors, trunk, hood, sunroof, etc.) which I am thinking will be a VERY large task. I was also asked for the ability to broadcast this video over the cellular network. This is in the USA so 4G is an option, but I am just curious to see if anyone out there has done anything with the sensors in question and if so how did you do it, and what sort of time was involved?
-
Did you terminate the cable yourself or did you buy it pre-fab?
-
You can do it a few ways. If you are putting a DVR in each spot, just use the network port to a wireless bridge. Otherwise, you need a wireless receiver/ transmitter for each camera to get the signals back to wherever the DVR is going to be.

Fortress has an 8 port POE switch built into their router, but it is only 10/100 and I can almost guarantee they are out of your budget. If you have an extra 4500 laying around let me know and I will hook you up.

need advise to buy cameras for workplace
ssnapier replied to mnddhuy's topic in General Digital Discussion
I am hoping you meant 1300 or 13000 because 8 cameras in 130 square feet would be a kind of overkill that I simply don't have words for. -
New Mobotix M15
ssnapier replied to elefantrider's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would use a D14 with a day and night sensor. They sell a special mount to get both lenses pointed in the exact same direction. I have also found a very good source for POE powered IR lights, and I am just about completed with my distributor stuff to sell them. The company is based in Russia... so it takes a few hours for emails to get back and forth because of the time zone difference and the business hours being so far apart from each other. If you are interested, they have IR stuff that would light that gate up fantastically for about half the cost of the equivalent Raytec gear.
