Remote Viewing and Recording on Pelco CCTV System
ssnapier replied to ianmatari's topic in Computers/Networking
Is your remote recording on the same network as the CCTV system? If not, you may have a very difficult time getting reliable recording over the internet. -
LAN Access, No WAN access even after setting network open
ssnapier replied to CAcctv's topic in Computers/Networking
so you need a dynamic DNS service... either that or call your ISP and see how much a static IP would cost. -
Ok, I am not quite sure I am tracking your setup so tell me if this diagram matches what you are doing.

Mobotix T24 with their iphone app would be ideal if I am understanding you correctly. It might not meet your price point, but it would be perfect. -

Under eave / soffit mounting bracket for a PTZ
ssnapier replied to uxu's topic in General Digital Discussion
It would be VERY simple to just bend a steel pipe or a piece of rigid conduit to whatever angle you need and mount it up. I have even taken larger stuff (over 2 inches) to a muffler shop and had it bent by them to save myself from renting the tools. Just mock it up with a piece of cardboard and then take that cardboard and get it done. -
how to wire panasonic cctv camera
ssnapier replied to stephenlorry's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes this is a good camera, but there are a lot of good cameras that are not so good for specific uses. What is your intent for this particular unit and furthermore, what is your intent for the use of the alarm inputs? -

Good call on testing it out... I do this all the time, but never think to tell others! -
WANTED: CCTV and general IT salesperson (Hagerstown, MD)
ssnapier replied to ssnapier's topic in Test Bench
I try hard judge no one until I see it on paper or with a power tool (usually) but I will take that under advisement! -
My company is looking for an experienced sales person that understands the CCTV world is willing to get out there and sell it. We do mainly IP cameras, but as with anyone we will install what the customer wants. If you have experience in the industry and you are looking for something new, please send your resume to recruiting@jen-esis.com and someone will be in touch with you. We are based in Hagerstown, MD have been in business for 12 years and you would be expected to cover the entire Baltimore/ D.C. region plus some of southern PA, all of VA, and West Virginia. You would also be responsible for developing your own marketing material and may be required to schedule site surveys and things of that sort on occasion. The best part about this job is that you would have a great deal of freedom in your position, and that cannot be underestimated!

This is all of the alarms, telephones, CCTV and data links for a main guard house at an Army base. Oh and to make it worse it is right on the front of the guard house so if a car were to ram it, all of this stuff is toast. We replaced a bunch of this stuff recently... they are much safer now!

Ok, I found one to start with. This is an LMR-600 cable attached to a wireless bridge, we were going nuts trying to figure out why it did not work... this would be why. This was after my guy poked at it for a while, but the solder glob was shorting the pin to the housing in a VERY big way!

Oh man... after reading these I will now be firing up my camera. I am always getting griped at by my wife and daughter for staring at wires everywhere we go, but now I have even more of a reason to do so! Has anyone else here attended the DoD basic installers course out in Arizona? I am sure most of you did BICSI stuff, but this is the Gov't equivalent and it is how I was trained.

I would bend a pole or use heavy threaded rod with a mounting plate and "pin it" right up in the apex of the roof. Then you only need one hole and it is a little easier to deal with. -
I think you missed my point entirely. If you are installing the POE injector outdoors, you will need to make sure it has the same environmental controls as the camera itself. 19 watts will be plenty, but again... think about where you are installing it and how you intend to keep it running at optimal levels.

I think a FutureSentry setup would be quite slick in this scenario. It would push the price point up a little bit, but the deterrent factor is a big plus. As for you "colorful" neighbor, maybe just install one of these and call it a day (KIDDING!!):

+1 I am spending a lot of my time lately replacing Pelco stuff with all sorts of other brands. -

Are the motion zones or dead time set wrong? It sounds like you are just coming to the end of the motion event or you have the time between events set way too high. Is there a way to increase the recording time per motion event or add more zones to force more event triggers? -
Just an FYI and something to think about. While the dome has heat and fans for regulating the cameras temp, make sure you take the same precautions for the POE injector itself. I have had three of them die this summer because of masssive overheating, one of them actually deformed the case a little bit!

Digital ZOOM Image of poor quality
ssnapier replied to Bigfreddieboy's topic in General Digital Discussion
I saw some gigapixel stuff at ISC West that made my jaw drop. They did that same sort of demo, except it was from almost 2 miles away! Ok back on topic... I think this horse has been sufficiently beaten, let's call time of death and move on. -
IMO goodwill and pleasantries will go a long way. Are you actually worried about local competitors stealing business from you because of this forum? If so... well nevermind, I just don't see that as a huge concern.

Digital ZOOM Image of poor quality
ssnapier replied to Bigfreddieboy's topic in General Digital Discussion
Agree but, if original has lots of pixels then it's very useful Fair point... in megapixel cameras it does have some redeeming value. In anything less than 700TVL, it is 100000% useless. -

I have a Pelco BB53-PG-E that I would sell for $200 plus shipping. Would you need the arm too or just the dome? -
Digital ZOOM Image of poor quality
ssnapier replied to Bigfreddieboy's topic in General Digital Discussion
In my opinion digital zoom is about as useful as a football bat or basketball cleats. It is a marketing ploy to make you think the camera has something more than just a fixed lens. The way digital zoom works (in simple terms) is to enlarge the pixels and stretching each one out. This means that by definition, you will lose quality. It is really no different than enlarging a picture in photoshop.
