The question you have to ask is will you use it at full resolution? Do you plan to use the digital zoom features? If not, go with the 2MP since your recording storage requirements will be quite a bit lower.

You will just need to set the second DVR with it's own IP address and a new port number. For example if you first DVR is using port 8080 just set the other DVR to use port 8081 then set your port forwarding int he router to point to the IP address of the second DVR. I am posting this just for reference, but the same would apply with two DVR's. If you got the first one setup on Dyn, this should be easy.

I personally hate Geovision stuff, their menus are difficult and their tech support is pretty weak. I would personally prefer Avigilon, Axis or Mobotix.

Yes, it will work without any issues. that 5A rating is the maximum that the unit can produce. It doe snot just feed 5 amps to everything, that is just it's capacity. The devices will draw whatever they need so no worries here, just plus it in and carry on!

It depends on what you are looking for. Do you want to be able to recognize a person? A car? What type of sensor are you using and at what resolution?

I just read that whitepaper, and now I know why the CCTV market has not been in a rush to move to gigabit ports on their cameras. If they did that, they could not use Mode B!

Border surveillance? Like country borders??? I have had some limited exposure to that stuff and I am not going to discuss what I know about it since there are some obvious reasons why it would not be smart to talk about it on the internet. If you are talking about a fence-line system, what are you trying to do?

I am maintaining an Panasonic analog system for one of my clients, it seems like pretty decent stuff to me and the joystick/ keyboard that comes with them is pretty dang cool!

Let's start with four questions.... you may want to PM this stuff. What is your current process? Do you have a formula or fixed markup percentage? What are overhead and regular expenses? What is your labor rate?

Yeah $100 is just far too low of a budget to get what you need here. I would be in the mid 200's to about 400 if it were me. Depends on the options.

You are sure that the ports in the camera and the ports in the router match? Are you changing the camera IP address?

The pre-made siamese is probably using extremely low grade wire. I would run an high quality 18/2 wire, and since it is 12 volts DC, I would not recommend going much farther than 50 feet.

Hikvision is my preference for the "consumer" market stuff. I would certainly consider the Axis IP stuff too as it is coming down in price and gives you solid support if something goes wrong. I am a weirdo and have 6 Mobotix cameras at my house, but I am a Mobotix Partner so I got some deals over the years that just are not available to most folks. If I was buying stuff for my house today it would be 100% IP stuff and I would choose Hikvision, Axis, or maybe Avigilon.

The cameras may have a tamper switch on the dome or housing. I am just guessing on this, the other thing is that you may have alarm inputs for things like door sensors or motion sensor. That is a pretty typical option on most DVR's, because you can use a sensor input as a trigger to start recording. My bet is that those are the alarm inputs, and the software was written by a guy who is just learning English (also quite common). A screenshot of what you are dealing with would be helpful.

Most of the lower end systems require Active X plugins to run properly. Since that is a Microsoft product, it is not very Mac friendly, but there are alternatives to make it work if you look around.
