    license required to install cameras?

Calvert County is the only place in Maryland that requires a license. There is an overall Security Technician s license that is issued by the state, but it is NOT required to perform this type of work.

    Motherboard Update

That card was discontinued 3 or 4 years ago, so I don't think you are going to find Win8 drivers for it. I would recommend installing Windows 7 instead.
  3. Wireshark should show you what is going on, isolate this camera with just your computer and a switch. Turn on wireshark and see what is going on. I did not think it was possible to set an IP at 0.0.0.0, most equipment will not accept that as a valid address.
  4. You might have to start looking at explosion proof housings or these with specific environmental controls. Industrial Video is the only company I can think of right now, but there are several other that provide this equipment. Be aware, this is very very expensive equipment. http://www.industrialvideosolutions.com/solutions/high-temperature.html
  5. If you just had a similar spec desktop instead of a laptop, I am betting your issues would go away. Laptops are optimized for mobile use and what that means in nearly all cases is optimization to lean towards low power draw. What that means to you is just a lack of horsepower to handle those streams. Get a desktop PC with similar specs (maybe more RAM) and a decent 2GB video card and you should be good to go.
  6. If you feel they have violated a law on the books go after them. The problem is that, you will need to have enough money to beat down their legal team. Is the road clearly marked as private? Are there any No trespassing signs posted?

    DDNS vs Cloud

Yes, it could be that your DDNS client has stopped updating. Check to see what your public IP address is, and then check to see what the DDNS service is reporting.
  8. I don't think you forwarded them correctly. Here is the graphic I post every time this question comes up (which is a lot, have you done a search?)

    UPS neccessary for DVR's?

Proper grounding and bonding. If lightning hits your directly, nothing will really help but you can only protect against so many things. Quality surge supression and grounding are the keys to lightning mitigation.
  10. I like Aiphone equipment for this application. If you only need one door, one of these would be ideal: http://www.aiphone.com/home/products/jk/ If you needs are 1-4 doors, this one is the ticket: http://www.aiphone.com/home/products/jm/
  11. Did you check the fuses in your PSU?

    UPS neccessary for DVR's?

In my opinion bad power is far worse, it causes the components in your device to work much harder compensating for the problems.

    UPS neccessary for DVR's?

Not just power loss, there are plenty of cases where a large demand from other devices will cause the line voltage to drop rapidly which can cause all kinds of weird things to happen. The bottom line is the steady regulated power from a device made to do that job is ALWAYS better then assuming your power is clean.

my nvr has gaps in recording

Is your NVR running a D-cord directly from the mains or is it running a brick style power supply? If it is on a brick, it is possible that thing is getting hot and dropping voltage, which would cause a reboot. If on a D-cord are you running an UPS or a quality surge protector? Have you seen any lights dimming around the time of the reboots? Is there an air conditioner or some other machine turning on that might cause a momentary voltage drop?

Issue with WAN connection to DVR

You opened the ports and directed them to 192.168.0.4? Someone recently posted issues with low end routers taking their sweet time applying those settings. Try rebooting the router and make sure your changes actually stuck.

    UPS neccessary for DVR's?

I would say yes, the idea is to keep the DVR running as stable as possible. That will require a means of keeping it powered when you have any type of power disruption. We typically get one that can power it for at LEAST 15 minutes, but usually more like an hour with the monitor running. That means 1500VA or bigger in most cases.
  17. As long as you have a clear line of sight between the router and the camera that can be done.
  18. ummmm, close the curtains? install some blackout shades? tint the glass?? No one is going to look at your FB page so unless you can figure out a way to seem even a tiny bit more legitimate, this is going nowhere.
  19. Wireless is tricky for CCTV and 15 meters could be problematic for most consumer grade wireless equipment. What is the problem with running cabling? Each camera will still require power, so you are not avoiding all wires. I would encourage you to try and avoid a purely wireless if possible.

    UPS neccessary for DVR's?

Yes, and I would buy a nicer one too that provides a bit of line conditioning also. Clean power = happy equipment.

    Rj45 ends

What kind of problems are you having? Changing to CAT-6 will not make a difference except in a few very limited cases, most of which have nothing to do with a CCTV application.
  22. What brand / model of router are we talking about? Are you talking to it on a direct conneciton or wireless?
