Understanding POE ports on a Dahua 3208P
shockwave199 replied to tdenson's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you bought a poe nvr it should at least work. Before I would just consider the extra cost for it a loss and switch to a poe switch, I'd at least try to get the built in poe to work. If you haven't gotten too far in customizing the nvr, I'd default it back to factory settings, or at least default the network section of the nvr and try again. You should not be getting duplicates. If you can't get it, work through it with customer service where you bought it. If it's a problem that can't be fixed, send it back for a refund, exchange, or whatever. You paid more money for an nvr with built in poe- you should have a working nvr that provides that. And while I agree that for some a poe switch is the way to go, for others the built in poe makes things easier to get up and running. And you can hit the cameras web interface with built in poe, but it is a bit convoluted to do it. But one thing I wouldn't do in your situation is just accept a problem with the nvr poe. You paid for that. You could have spent less on an nvr without poe and put that extra money towards a poe switch in the first place. So, solve the issue first and then see what the next step is. At least, that's what I would do. Good luck. -
I have to thank you again for taking the time with all your photos. That camera looks more like a typical large ptz- certainly not a small mini size. I have a number of vids on my ptz I installed at home, but it's more expensive. More features and I like it a lot though. But I want a smaller camera for the back of the house.

They look WAY too big. I'll take them both to save you the trouble.

Before I purchase, best value poe switch?

Please keep us posted how all is going. I will be interested how your experience is with all four cameras in line, streaming, recording, etc. Good luck with everything! -
Thanks for all the menu pics and your effort to do that. It's something to consider.
-
Well that's encouraging. You should noodle around in there and for sure let me know what you find. You may very well improve the IR performance by doing so.
-
Thanks for those pics. It's a bit bigger than I was thinking, but not bad. So the IR simply comes on at night and off in the day via the sensor. No real control and not ideal, but it's to be expected at that price point I suppose. Is the IR adaptive at all? As in smart IR, where it will change intensity depending on zoom depth? And especially, if you zoom tight on a persons face? Or will it blow out details to just white? Again I'm guessing it's not adaptive. I could have some flexibility in the zoom- it doesn't need to be 27x for the spot I need it. But I can't compromise on the IR specs. They have to be adaptive or it just ends up being one big blast of IR. So that just equals more money, really. Thanks for the info.

Does that camera have any manual control of the IR or is it just auto with nightfall. Is the only way they stay off by putting it in color mode? Any chance you can post a picture of the thing installed on your home so I can get an idea of the size? Not a closeup persay, but something that indicates the size and how it looks on your home. I've been interested in a second ptz on the back of my house.

Recently getting noisy night picture with Hikvision 3MP cam
shockwave199 replied to ctbaker's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Three things to check I suppose- the camera, the cable, and the nvr channel itself. I'm assuming the nvr has all built in poe? Can you bypass the nvr and go directly to the network with the camera and see how the picture is? If so, and if the picture clears up, this tells you two things. That cable is fine and that camera is fine and that would point to a problem with that input in the nvr. Also, have you rebooted the nvr to see if that clears anything? Perhaps you can swap channels with another working camera and see what happens too. However you do it, those are the three things to isolate and confirm in the process of elimination- camera, cable, nvr input. -
HD-SDI Cameras vs. IP Cameras where Live View is Critical

They have a sale going on now too http://www.securitycameraking.com/complete-8-camera-tiny-nvr-59196-prd1.html Good luck. -
I couldn't resist this camera. I'm calling it my Christmas present to myself this year. I love this thing! So much crapola goes down on the road, it seems a no brainer to have a camera out there as well if you're a camera geek. And so now, I do This is the other night in snowy conditions. Probably not the best example of what the thing can do because of a schmutzy windshield but heck- that's the road. It has to give results not matter what out there. I'll post some more of day time and clearer night as well. Bf1xgqplZdU

Neighbor backs into car....I watched it happen from inside..
shockwave199 replied to lowpro's topic in Test Bench
Actually, either he was totally wasted or his license should be revoked. Every move with that car in that sequence was a cluster f***, and if his ultimate goal was simply pulling into his driveway, like I said, license needs to be revoked for STARTERS. -
I got mine from wrightwood and for just under 100 bucks, I think it's great. ERZ-EuQafiU Bf1xgqplZdU

I believe you can just nudge it up by hand and it'll hold that range until a reboot. -

If you have good exterior lighting, this camera is excellent- http://www.securitycameraking.com/2-megapixel-ip-vandal-dome-59101-prd1.html It'll go black at night without exterior lighting though. Also, it's easier to ceiling mount it but it can be wall mounted, no problem. Pop a micro SD card in it if you want to record. Simple as that. You'll also need this POE injector as well. http://www.securitycameraking.com/single-port-poe-30w-injector-59315-prd1.html?pSearchQueryId=2729022 Doesn't get mucgh simpler than that and you'll have exceptional quality. Good luck. -

Amazing. 30x is a looong arm man! Although I'm sure a good portion of that is digital zoom too. I see that security guard down there has a camera system too, heh. But zoomed into that building at 30 seconds in- got any idea of that distance? Scary good. -
Easier because of full stop, although still good I think. Of course the one right up my nose was rather easy
-
Btw, I was just noodling to see what snapshots would come of some night footage. Not bad. More often than not when you're on the move, getting plates reliably drops- especially at night. Anywho...some pics- Drilled in for a plate-

I use the same card but wasn't watching and bought a class 4. Still works perfectly though. Now that I know I like this thing, I gotta route and hide the wire.

Dahua NVR 3208 display/channels
shockwave199 replied to Anderino's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Frankly I don't see any reason to reboot if nothing gets weird. Along the way if it does, then manually reboot. But it's likely you'll never have to. Once in a great while I reboot my dvr cause ptz communication needs a refresh. But even that's rare. -

shockwave199 replied to Anderino's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Where do you view your cameras- at the nvr monitor all the time or remotely? Remotely you can use PSS and make a task which will bring up only four cameras in the order you choose every time you open it. At the nvr, if nothing else works and if you haven't gotten too deep into custom settings, you can probably take all four lines out, default the nvr, and then plug the lines back in the order you want them. Goofy way to do it I think, but if all else fails it'd probably work. And turn off auto reboot. Not needed. -
I put a 32 gig micro SD card in it- the largest it can take. It's suction cupped to the windshield behind [from my position] the rear view mirror. The suction cup bracket is top shelf, not crappy stuff. It stays in place. Loving this camera. Figures, the first mega pixel camera I install for myself...is in the car. Read all about it here- http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=2011

I finally pulled the trigger
shockwave199 replied to Firefighter's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Oh yeah, I think there was a thread about the fov with hiks at various settings. I'd for sure opt for 3MP and if I felt too 'claustrophobic' I might consider moving the camera...or perhaps another one installed will give you the missing pieces. While zooming the sign certainly tells the story, do it real world with people. A little sign isn't likely to rob you any time soon. -

shockwave199 replied to Firefighter's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well the smart IR is definitely working. I think your video is the first I've seen to confirm that now. And if you really miss the wider picture, could you put it at 2MP- 1080 and gain some? Settling I know, but that's where you really fine tune what your priorities are. What you could try is digitally zooming on each area of interest. How much that image breaks down will tell you what's the least resolution you can get away with. Of course when you zoom on someone close to your front door the quality will hold up. But out on your grass and by your driveway, and the street. If those farther away areas are still critical areas, which they should be, see what you get when you walk around out there and then on playback, zoom for a snapshot and see what you have both day and night. You may need to stay at 3mp, or you may be able to drop down with no issue. If something bad happens out there in front of our cameras, the very FIRST thing you do is take snapshots zoomed as close as you can to hold clarity and help with ID. It really all comes down to that. You'll have to see if a wider 1080 will hold up under that srcutiny. If it does, it's a consideration. Looking great though!
