I need an outdoor, IP, POE, PZT camera!
shockwave199 replied to Zigma's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I thought the dahua/hik ptz's need a separate power supply as poe won't cut it. I have the analog dauha ptz and it is one fantastic camera. Unless you need a dome so you can't see where the camera is pointing, I'd say disregard how the camera looks because it's a superb ptz/ir camera. -
Can't playback on PSS - failed to request network playback
shockwave199 replied to lotnybartek's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Do you keep trying to play the file- like try multiple times? I get this when I'm advancing from motion event to motion event along the time line sometimes. It's a pain. But if I search by file like you have there, it's fine. Does this happen in your home network or at another location? It could point to low network resources. Does it work if you close all cameras and then search? What dvr/nrv are you using? -
Hikvision NVR and Camera Pre-Installation Questions

You should only tweak what is recommended for your nvr. -
Dahua NVR 3208 Chinese to English ?
shockwave199 replied to komag's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You can try a phone app to translate the menu items. For instance, bing translate is a good one. Point your phone at the screen and it will translate for you in real time. Worth a shot. -
Unable to remotely view NVR video through a browser
shockwave199 replied to floridaguy's topic in Computers/Networking
- Does the nvr have CMS software and do you have problems with feeds in that? - Have you asked support about browser compatability? - Have you tried different pc's remotely, or is the problem just on one pc/laptop? Try a couple different ones and see. - Are you sure you don't have your camera channels set to hidden? Works in the phone so probably not. - Have you confirmed that all your forwarded ports are showing open? -
Hikvision NVR and Camera Pre-Installation Questions
shockwave199 replied to floridaguy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That's like, a huge issue. What have you tried to problem solve that? What browser and all? Are you all set up correctly with DDNS? -
That is true I believe as well. I'd rather have light though. The big one there is LOCK your car doors. The walk-by door jiggle is very common. Crime of opportunity. Keep the car doors locked even during the day. Lots of vids here on that one. I think it's the first thing you realize goes on a lot when you install cameras. It's the first thing I caught too.

Need advice on an NVR for use with Hikvision DS-2CD2132 cams
shockwave199 replied to SLOWBRA's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This falls within your budget, and also has 16 POE ports. Something to consider http://www.costco.com/Swann-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD%2c-6-1080p-Cameras-and-2-Vari-Focal-Cameras.product.100070310.html I wouldn't recommend a dahua NVR for hik cameras. They may come up but you'll likely have to settle for 24/7 recording, not motion recording. If that 32 channel is something you want, get dahua cameras for compatability. -
If I were a thief I'd take a couple dollars from my profit and invest in ear plugs. They take whatever they can grab as quickly as possible, siren or not. It's a sad fact that if anything, police response time has slowed. At least that's been my experience. Ten minutes is the norm. Grab what you can in five or less, you're golden. That's why it's always best to try and make your property a really lousy target to begin with. Cars in lighted driveways- not just motion on, but constant light. Lights at doorways. Good solid door locks. Alarm/CCTV video signs on the property, and some conspicuous cameras. Whatever you can do to help your property to be less attractive to burglary, the better. If alarms go off, it's probably too late- they're getting something out of it regardless. I do have an exterior siren that I can trigger manually. It's an important part of the puzzle for me.

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 - Can't View Cameras QC804

I'm sure q-see needs to get an update. You either go back to W8 or wait q-see out for a new rev release. And make sure they know about it too. -
Analog camera to IP NVR
shockwave199 replied to zikronix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you're using a hardware NVR, it may have to be the same brand as the dvr for it to work. But I could be wrong on that. -
How would you improve this IR recording?
shockwave199 replied to algilson's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yep. Nothing wrong with wide overview shots included in your coverage, but for your main soft spots, you need the right FOV. -
How would you improve this IR recording?
shockwave199 replied to algilson's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I agree about the IR. Another part of the puzzle with that camera is that you don't have it aimed to catch anything particularly well. Point it more left and really cover the driveway. You'll lose the front walk but you'll gain a more usable shot of cars in the driveway. Also, if it's possible to park the car in a better position to help the camera ID, do so. And regardless, you should take the footage to the authorities. They may know that guy very well and what you did capture may be enough for them. Your footage has some good frames. -
Keep it simple. Here ya go, under budget and all. Install and start snooping- http://www.amazon.com/QS494-452-5-Channel-Security-Surveillance-High-Resolution/dp/B009HPBPN0/ref=sr_1_21?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1381949386&sr=1-21&keywords=qsee+4+channel

45 Cams, In need of 3 16 channel DVR w/Mac native software
shockwave199 replied to reveiled's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I see they have a 64 channel, but I've never seen it available to buy. I've seen 128 channel units to buy, but I think they were insane prices and not well received. I've bought dahua units and cameras from reputable dealers and support is great- from them. Buy it cheap from a who-knows on ebay or from alibaba, and you're on your own. I do use one great ebayer local to my area for accessories and they sell dahua as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy dahua from them. But I like the dahua interface and PSS, so even though there are plenty of other choices, I always prefer dahua for my needs. -
Small Form Factor NVR
shockwave199 replied to shew's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well you can hit them, but it's not as easy, true. And the first thing I do when setting things up is network the dvr/nvr, so up on a ladder where it matters, i can just bring a netbook up with me for fine tuning. -
IR Light Strip for IP Nightvision?
shockwave199 replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yeah seriously WTF. Every time I check into this thread to see what this looks like there's nothing to see. I'm not looking at this thread any longer. If you get some shots of how this is looking maybe start a new thread about it, cause this one is a cry wolf thread now. -
45 Cams, In need of 3 16 channel DVR w/Mac native software
shockwave199 replied to reveiled's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I'm a dahua fan, what can I say. If three 16 channel dvr's float your boat consider this- http://www.securitycameraking.com/16-channel-ultimate-series-h-58045-prd1.html Get 4tb hard drives installed in each one and set each channel very carefully to schedule and/or motion detect and you should get WAY more than ten days archiving. My 1tb hard drive for 8 channels 30fps gives me about 35 days archiving time- exterior cameras no less. They support MAC PSS software so you can bring up all three dvrs in there to view. Ipad/Iphone. We have a bosch 16 channel divar at our new facility and it, in a word, sucks. Can't wait to pull it out. But I'll probably get approval to replace with a dahua HD-SDI unit. Good luck to you. -
Small Form Factor NVR
shockwave199 replied to shew's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Depth looks good @11" but width is more like 14.7" Anything can be wall mounted if needed. This one is smaller and would fit, but only 4 poe. Also comes with no poe at all. http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr3104-p3108-p3116-p-298.html This is an uboxing and interface video of it s4joMm-lMPY qJev8R1pKmA -
Small Form Factor NVR
shockwave199 replied to shew's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dahua makes one that would work for you- http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-Channel-NVR-with-8-Port-POE-Ports-1-TB-WD-AV-Hard-Drive-/251355155437?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item3a85ef4bed That unit with a 1tb hard drive included is about the best price you can expect. There's a more popular 32 channel unit out that has 8 poe built in and even though it's a 32 channel unit, you can get it for around the same price as the 8 channel but without a hard drive included. Costco has swann and lorex with 8 poe built in and even includes cameras and hard drives. Not much problem finding what you need. -
60ft Video + Power All-in-one Cable for Security Cameras
shockwave199 replied to northerntoys's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Do not use that stock cable, seriously. Not only does it make running it through walls way more of a pain, but for all the effort you'll have the stock, crappy cable. Get yourself some bulk RG59 in the color you need. Get a 500' roll so you have extra. But you only need half that you say? Are you sure about that? Most of the time you under estimate what lenght you'll actually need. Bulk 500' is not really that much money. Or if you're really sure each run is 60' or less, buy pre cut to size if you can. Then you hit ebay and grab twist on connectors in bulk. No need to crimp if you don't want to. Use inexpensive twist on's such as these- http://www.ebay.com/itm/20pcs-Twist-on-BNC-Male-RG59-Connector-for-CCTV-cameras-/261031894277?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item3cc6b69d05#ht_1598wt_813 Then you grab power barrels such as these, cheap again- http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Pairs-Male-and-Female-2-1x5-5mm-DC-Power-Plug-Jack-Adapter-Connector-for-CCTV-/261146308078?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item3ccd886dee#ht_1393wt_813 And then you hit youtube and watch how to apply twist on bnc connectors- very easy to do. Then take a 4' piece cable and practice putting on those connections. It is not hard and when you do it, you'll be so glad you did because NOW you can drill MUCH smaller holes no matter what you're drilling through. And that's a good day my friend- And guess what- it's almost a sure thing you'll get a better picture from your hand made cable too. Make your own cables, please. You'll be glad you did. -
Just be aware that inside in a room will be easier to get a good picture. It may be totally different and harder outside. You're learning what the settings will do, but it may need more work outside. Ideally, if you can temp mount a camera outside a window you can get a real feel for what the settings will do out there. You should also try the lens setting of video or DC and see what that does, and see if either of those settings cures the ticking.
-
Great! The more you get to know about the settings and what they do, the quicker it'll go up there on the ladder! Just make sure you see how movement is with any slow shutter speed or NR in play. You want it to be less noisy, but still show no blurring when there's movement in the shot. You can embedd pics but the best way is to take snapshots within your dvr software, and then use the attach function when posting. This way it just uploads and you don't have to worry about linking to photobucket or anything.

The max is typically 1A when running it through an nvr/dvr for alarm triggering. Over there where I mentioned to buy it- they have a nice write up on how to wire it up.
-
The siren has the option to just make it strobe without the siren. It's all how you wire it.
