Caught on camera- landscapers behaving badly
shockwave199 replied to shockwave199's topic in General Digital Discussion
That is my garbage cans the fence is on top of- not in, but on top. But the thing is, it's on my property. If it were at the curb, no harm no foul. He could have asked me and I would have told him no, I plan to use it. You can't take stuff from peoples garbage cans while on their property- it's against the law. And technically, the fence was not in a can either. The bed where I was gonna install them is very close to that spot, which is why they were left there. The kid knew it wasn't a good idea. He looked around, thought about, and decided to take my fence. But I don't have to explain a thing- that's what the cameras are for. What comes of this is that these guys can't be trusted, plain and simple. So they won't be coming back. -
Can you guess the analog?
shockwave199 replied to luckyfella's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
^^ Exactly. As I said earlier, generally too much is made over breaches. I would do it for easier, remote CS too. But I wouldn't do it with indoor cameras, or I would only do it short term if the job was a multi day job and I had a chance to confirm they were okay, and then off line they would go. And of course, it would be a case by case situation, after conferring with the client. But for general exterior small residential jobs where outdoor cameras can very likely need further tweaking after the fact- you bet I'd be doing that remotely as well. Put me on the trunker list I suppose. LOL. -
PTZ - configure with a DVR
shockwave199 replied to neilvassallo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Without the comm line you couldn't recall any of the presets from the dvr. What you could do is while your comm line is hooked up, setup your home position where the camera looks when it sits idle, create your presets, create an auto preset tour of those presets, and if the camera supports it, make a daily schedule of that preset tour, and perhaps other scheduled things like auto scan, or even schedule the camera to run a pattern you make while the comm line is hooked up. All of those things will stay programmed and launch automatically according to the schedule you made, even without 485 line hooked up. But when you disconnect the 485 line, you no longer have any control over the camera. So interrupting the tour, tweaking a menu setting, or needing to track a target will not be possible. So, if you're gonna go through the trouble of running a temp line to set the camera up, run a permanent line so you always have control over your ptz. Good luck. -

I have three 2mp mini domes installed in a parking lot location and they are all unpredictable in this regard too. The client doesn't complain so I let it go. None of them go so far askew that it's that bad, but as a sunny day progresses the color read shifts a bit. It's mainly in the late afternoon hours, and the skew doesn't last that long. Also on the sunny preset, I thought maybe that tweaked bright/contrast too which I why I thought maybe a custom setting, tweaking only R/B balance might get better results. -

Generally, I think too much is made over breach risks. Remote customer service would win for me as well. -

That's very good IR on those eyeballs as well. I see the bottom right camera looks like it has a bit of IR halo. I had heard the problem was hit and miss with the eyeball domes, which is why I was curious to see them. It could be some ambient light in that shot, but I think it's IR halo. But overall, impressive- very even and a good wide throw. You might want to keep an eye on the sunny setting and make sure that works well throughout the entire day. I'm always a little leary about presets for things. If it's not working out, you might try a customized setting, such as in this vid. You might find the right balance for each kind of lighting in a day. Anway, the sunny setting is an improvement for sure, at that time of day. JKEKf1v5WwY -

Btw- like I mentioned, any chance of a pic or two from the eyeball cameras in IR mode? I've seen your pics of the bullets in IR and they look superb. But I don't have much to go on for IR samples of the eyeballs. Another question- do your customers ever complain about spider webs at the cameras? Do you tell them they might have to clean that away periodically as needed? It seems no matter how high a camera is installed, spiders are willing to make the climb for IR! LOL! Just wondering how you deal with that potential with customers. -

HA! You've actually hit a max limit in PSS! Is the limit adding the device, or adding to a single group, or having that many devices open at once- not showing obviously, but the servers open and ready to show camera feeds? If you can't add another device, that's interesting that there's is even a limit. I'd love to see the eyeballs IR shots. What NVR did you use? I see 8 cameras but the 8 channel NVR's are slim pickins. Price wise, the 32 channel ones seem a better choice. I may have a job a job out in Brookhaven coming up- waterfront home in Bellport. Any interest in maybe partnering for that job? It may be beyond what I can handle alone. I'm taking a look at the job this week to size it up. Seriously, let me know. It would be a blast. They're probably looking for a 4-8 camera system and we could knock it out in one day. -

Dahua SD6982A-HN 2MP IP PTZ wiring installation question
shockwave199 replied to hdtvjeff's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I did a little vid on putting the beast on a pole. Look for it in my sig link. I ramble a bit about testing it, but it eventually gets installed. LOL! Just be smart about install and it should be painless up there. Good luck. We'll need to see some pics and video samples from that baby! Btw- are you hooking this up to an nvr, and are you using 485 or is the comm via network cable? -

150' for both should be fine. I was gonna mention about the color match not needed with 24v ac, but I always match anyway as a matter of habit. Btw- you're gonna love the camera. I love the 700 tvl analog version- the closest thing to an MP quality picture of any camera I've used. Superb. -
Dahua SD6982A-HN 2MP IP PTZ wiring installation question
shockwave199 replied to hdtvjeff's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You can run 18/2 wire for the power line. As you have said, the power transformer is 24v, not 12v. Just connect same colors to same colors- the ptz black to the 18/2 wire black and the ptz red to the 18/2 wire red. Then connect the same colors of the 18/2 wire to the same colors on the power adapter wire. The green wire on the ptz is ground. When I installed the analog version of the camera, I didn't use the ground. I just put a wire cap on it. Good or bad, it's made no difference in operation for over a year. Now for the 485, I haven't installed the IP version to actually know. I'm guessing what bullewinkle is referring to is working the camera via it's OSD menu, as opposed to the software ptz controller in either web service or pss. Frankly, if the camera has 485 lines and I was using it via an NVR, I'd probably prefer using that to the 485 hookups on the nvr and use the typical ptz controller in the nvr, web service, or pss. -
IP cameras with 2-way audio
shockwave199 replied to atari37's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If that dahua is like the 3202 that I put in http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hdbw32003202-220.html than all you need is a typical powered cctv mic. Cheap is fine, although if it's outdoors you need to find an outdoor rated one. I highly recommend one with a gain control on the mic itself. It really allows you to dial in just the right amount of volume needed. A set loudness of max is not always needed, depending on the space. The first vid is the camera I installed with audio in a reception area, with a cheap mic up in the ceiling tile. The second vid is a nice rig for using the two way audio feature of the NVR itself, not the camera. That audio would not be recorded. The third vid is an example of two way with a dvr, but it's much the same for an NVR. 9djw0wodcrc REJgL0b8SRc CqoUcHkSiT0 -
How many cameras will you be using, and how many POE ports does your switch have- powered ports I mean? Yes, the NVR will find them on your network if your switch can handle all your cameras. You can get an NVR with some POE ports to handle some of the load, or you can get a bigger switch to handle it, if you expand down the line.

Car numberplate not readable when infra-red comes on!
shockwave199 replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
One ptz I use at work is a dahua and the other- the one that grabbed the last shot at my home, is a no name brand from ebay. But it has been doing well for over a year now. But as you mention, a ptz isn't right for your situation. Good luck to you. -

shockwave199 replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
You want to do something specialized with cameras that cannot do it. It's all about the camera. It's probably not practical for you, but I find ptz's can be effective for plates at night. The full control of them helps, as well as being able to cover other needs and areas when plates are not needed. I use two different ptz's, one at home and one at work. They both deliver plates because of the full control over the camera when needed. Also keep in mind that grabbing plates from cars on the move adds an even bigger hurdle too. This is an excellent shot I got with my home ptz with adjustable IR at over 100' away- -
Don't feel bad. An installer wouldn't stick around at night and fiddle to get it just right for you. They pop 'em up, leave at default settings, take your money, and away they go. The best person to dial in just the perfect picture and balance between your day and night shot is you. Nothing great comes easy- it takes fiddling. And no one setting is a guarantee to work for your situation. Consider it a learning experience. Good luck and keep at it.

This is from another manual that may be more specific for you about these particular settings. I ran into the two numbers 'chasing game' with a camera as well. Change one, the other changes. I don't remember which number I had to change first, but it can be done. You just can't make each number too close or else they lock together and change together. Keep noodling- you'll get it. Good luck. Burst On/Off – When leaving this setting on, the video signal will maintain the color burst signal when switching to B/W mode. This will boost your signal during times of low light which will result in a less noisy picture. Delay CNT – This setting tells your camera how long to delay before switching to either day or night mode. This setting is handy as it will prevent the camera from switching over to either mode too quickly because of a temporary light change. The higher the setting, the longer the delay Day-Night – Tells the camera when to switch over from day mode to night mode. The higher the setting, the less light that is required for the camera to switch over. For indoor scenarios, we recommend keeping this setting somewhere in the 40-75 range. For outdoor scenarios, we recommend keeping the setting around 150. Night-Day – Tells the camera when to switch from night mode back over to day mode. The higher the setting, the more light is required for the camera to switch over. For indoor scenarios, we recommend keeping this at 50-85. For outdoor scenarios, around 175. **** Please set the values between Day-Night and Night-Day to be somewhat distinguishable. If the difference between the values between these 2 settings are minimal, then you may have a problem of the camera switching between modes repeatedly. Also, you will notice that the Night-Day setting must always be higher than the Day-Night setting. This is a value that may take a few days to toggle with in your scenario to get the right setting.

Hikvision NVR direct live view (lag/slow motion issue)
shockwave199 replied to milkisbad's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Big liquor store is it? The ones around here are mostly small and 21 mp cameras would be overkill- HIGHLY. Also about FPS, leave feelings out of it. That's YOUR feelings, I'm guessing. 15fps will make any average person feel like they're viewing perfectly acceptable full motion- even those with a good eye would be fine with a smooth 15fps. Heck even 10fps gives a completely reasonable feeling of smooth video. But that's just satisfying the eye, or should I say, the brain. 5fps is fine too and even 1fps should not be counted out as usable in terms of surveillance. We're not talking netflicks here. -

Have you always used VBR. You should try sticking with CBR @ same 2048 and see. Also, you gotta try taking the switch out of the equation just to make sure.
