Anti-Dither, pre record, and record latch
shockwave199 replied to vector18's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yes, my nvr has 0-600 and I was concerned about my PTZ when fully zoomed in. You have a small FOV while zoomed in tight. I wonder what the heck the difference is? The one installed is a 4 channel rebranded dahua, but I wonder if it's a firmware update or something. And if you have the time, you should really put the settings to the test to see if they're working properly all the time- especially the AD. For instance, set 5 seconds and see if you can fake it out so it doesn't record. At 5 seconds, I don't seem to miss a thing. If I get a chance, after work maybe I'll swing by the place by me and try as well. It would take running to actually make it through a fov in less than 5 seconds. Or, standing in front of a camera and not moving so the event ends, and then doing a quick hand wave and then be motionless again. Hmmmm. -
Hikvision NVR with alarm in/out?
shockwave199 replied to shockwave199's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You mean...it's not for a ptz?! I'm just assuming that if it actually has the hookup, it's for a ptz. But 'reserved' is odd and the only time I've heard that term used is when a board/card is coming, but not available yet- such as an adat, scsi, or smpte board that pops into the unit as an add on. It can't be that ptz isn't supported can it??? -
Hikvision NVR with alarm in/out?
shockwave199 replied to shockwave199's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What's the deal with this spec stating reserved? - '1 RS-485 interface (reserved)' If you have their ear, would you kindly suggest to wrightwood that they carry the DS-7600NI-SP please. That unit is badly needed if there's to be a real choice between dahua and hikvision. And that's assuming that this unit has alarm in/out AND RS485. These are no-brainer features and if there are hik nvr's that include them, they must start be be available. Tie that all up with built in 8 channel poe, and you got something! -
Anti-Dither, pre record, and record latch
shockwave199 replied to vector18's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Can AD be set to less than 5 seconds in the dahua? Mine says 5~600. At a normal walking pace for me, I walk about 12' in five seconds. With wide 1080p fov's, I never seem to have a problem getting everything with a default 5 seconds AD. Sensitivity seems to be less consistant the bigger the fov you're dealing with. You have to test and check that carefully. -
Anti-Dither, pre record, and record latch
shockwave199 replied to vector18's topic in Digital Video Recorders
It depends on how a given dvr, nvr, or IP camera handles it, and how well it handles it. My qsee 408 dvr has auto 10 second pre record built in- it can't be adjusted. It works flawlessly all the time for my home application. I set post record the shortest allowed in there- 30 seconds. That is on the longer side but it too always works out for the best. The only thing I have to control what consitutes a motion event is sensitivity. I don't have a anti dither option in that dvr. The dahua nvr install I did a couple months ago is entirely different. I have all the otions you mention in the nvr, which I suppose is really tweaking the cameras when you set it all up through the nvr. For a business, each of the four locations needed different things. The reception area is so busy during the day that it proved useless to do motion detection. So during normal business hours, it records fulltime. At closing, motion takes over. That camera, I have AD set at 5 seconds, PR set at 10 seconds, and latch set at 10 seconds. Weekends that camera is set for MD full time. The other three parking lot cameras are a totally different story because with a parking lot, it's important to see when vehicles enter and exit as well as any action that might go on closer to the cameras. So, since I found dahua's sensitivity somewhat unreliable with super large fov's, I keep all those cameras sensitity max at 6, AD at 5 seconds for all, but pre record is 30 seconds for each. This almost always backs the event up to when a vehicle enters way out in the front of the lot. I have latch on all those set at 20 seconds, which helps to cut down on the amount of events somewhat so it's less broken up- but still taking advantage of events. This gets trickier at night, when the vehicle/pedestrian traffic gets way less and you can really see how well all the settings are balanced out. And of course, it can't be 100% all the time with MD settings. Some events have been missed or chopped too short up front or at the end. So in order to not miss a single thing ever, I had to schedule full time recording on two cameras out there- one during the day and then that one goes to MD and another takes over full time all night. So all day and night, at least one camera is recording full time while the others do MD. That really gets everything and with MD events as well, it makes for easy searching. So much critical stuff can happen at any given moment in public parking lots, you really have to dial it all in right- so you get everything but still save as much hard drive space as you can. How's that for discussing! LOL! -
Q-See QC804 vs QC808 1080p fps
shockwave199 replied to funkadelic's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You'd be correct at 15. And that's plenty. Even 10 is fine. In my opinion, of course. -
Q-See QC804 vs QC808 1080p fps
shockwave199 replied to funkadelic's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
30 fps is entirely overrated. This is from a 2mp 1080p camera I installed. How many fps do you think that is? zcBzk-FtZcI -
POE - Which Switch?
shockwave199 replied to fishingmaniac's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well somethings gotta give because using more switches to handle 8 poe just because of fan noise doesn't seem like a great solution. I understand why you do, and I'd probably do it as well. I'm just saying that the fan situation stinks and at the very least, needs to be seriously considered when choosing. I've had two loud fan experiences and it truly sucks to the point of not being able to deal with it. -
Got the new Avigilon 5MP Bullet installed..

Every so often the day will be going along as normal and then something completely unexpected happens. Where they came from is anybody's guess. It's not like this swine riff raff have anywhere to hang out around these parts normally. After running through traffic and causing mayhem, they bolted through our parkinglot. I believe in the end, they were apprehended. yNHiiuHeyH8

I can't remember the fw number but it's the one right before the latest one that came out about a month ago, which gave profile scheduling ability.
-
Yes that's correct, no IR. And yes, you do need light to wake them up at night. But the parking lot has enough to be okay.

That's the 2mp dahua mini domes.

Got the new Avigilon 5MP Bullet installed..
shockwave199 replied to camera-newbie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You know it's funny about a critical eye. When I installed this camera a couple a months ago for the client, he insisted that the picture showed exactly what he wanted to see and looked excellent. I strongly advised that I can dial it all in better but he said no, it's exactly what I want and to leave it right there. Hey, what the customer wants the customer gets- I sent him an email this weekend and said I wanted to make a few adjustments- my ulterior motive unknown to him was to get at this camera. I took the opportunity to FINALLY set that camera right. Of course he said 'how much freakin better it looks!' Well duh! If I didn't care, he'd have been stuck with it. Take the time with a critical eye. It's worth it. -

shockwave199 replied to iceman650's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Why would that be argued? Is that your experience as well? I have always heard that you can't or shouldn't use old coax for HDSI. But it seems like a retro fit doing exactly that is working out. I couldn't do that as I ran premade cables anyway- no way that'll do. So personally I'd be redoing it all anyway. -

Well what's the compressed footage of HD-SDI look like? I understand what you saying, but cameras have to stay number one too. You can spend 5k on ten mega pixel type cameras alone. If you can't possibly afford the cameras needed for your coverage, mega pixel is out of the question right there. -
Single IP Camera, best solution for driveway?

You could also consider improving your light outside with solar security light fixtures from lowes/homedepot. Then you'd get more lighting without the hassle of wiring the fixtures in. Any additional light outside will help a camera help you. -
Camera's with disabled IR and using an Illuminator
shockwave199 replied to Bigglesuk's topic in Security Cameras
They won't solve the problem I don't believe. They are still much too close to the lens itself. Other than ptz's where you can get into the menu and turn the IR on and off as needed, I haven't seen fixed cameras that you can do that. You can schedule them so they are in day mode all the time, so the IR remains off. At that point you're looking at a color picture and you need white light illuminating at least the immediate area that is most important to monitor. Anything else lit up, such as sections of street from street lights or other houses with lights will be a bonus in the shot. The problem as I see it could be that even white light near a camera could attract spiders close enough to be an issue too. My spiders are quite smart- they web up around lights because they know that's where the food is from the other flying insects that are attracted to white light too. I also haven't seen IR sensitive cameras, but without IR built in either. So unless there's cameras I don't know about- and would love to- it's a tough issue. And it's probably the single biggest issue I have with investing in mega pixel cameras with built in IR. I don't wish to spend hundreds on an even better image of webs and spiders. -
How's your knowledge of networking? Comfortable with tweaking your router and your home network? It's best to be comfortable with that kind of stuff if you're gonna go with an IP system. What's your exterior lighting like all around your house? How many cameras do you think you'll need? What areas do you need to monitor? How many feet from any camera you'd install on the front of your house to the street? Knowing your all this stuff will save time for helping you.

Help with new Service Station/Gas Station install
shockwave199 replied to iceman650's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The less you know about IP and networking, the more convenient POE is, which means power over ethernet. One network cable supplies power and picture. Gone would be your mess of wires and adapters. All the cables hook up to the NVR. Here's a vid to help explain. UiE-iBwsCig And here's one more vid to help you really gain an understanding on how it all gets setup with a spearate poe switch. You're gonna need to know how to do it. I hope I'm not causing a problem posting these vids. I do it only becuase they are so good for learning the basics and have found no others like them. Help with new Service Station/Gas Station install
shockwave199 replied to iceman650's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you're gonna go IP/MP, the 32 channel dahua with 8 poe or without any poe is the way to go if you want an NVR in line, imo. Without POE you're looking at 600 bucks and with poe, add another 150 or so. With a hard drive your topping out at around 1k. Completely reasonable considering you have tons of room for growth, taking into account what you said- preferring even more than 16 channels. If you place even a 2 mp camera wisely, you'll get plates. You may actually find you need LESS cameras for the same or more coverage with mega pixel cameras compared to analog. But at the moment if you prefer an NVR box and you want high channel count, the 32 channel looks to be worth considering. http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr520852165232-p-300.html -
Swann 1080p HD NVR IP Bullet Cameras not showing IP address?

Considering it was a return that wasn't even repackaged, I'd return them no matter what for a proper new set.
