  1. Far as I know pss doesn't do motion detection.
  2. Now there's a teaser! Keep us posted with that progress!
  3. The one I have access to I only have one 3tb drive in there. I see no settings in config that pertains to this, but it may be because I only have one drive installed. Are you certain you have drive one set to overwrite? Check and see- maybe you have it set to stop recording when full.

    Puzzled to find a camera

I actually found the thing last week on ebay. It's an old lorex. I tried to contact lorex but after 15 minutes on hold, I gave up. The only way to deal with it is to try and put a new lens in it. Not interested.

    Puzzled to find a camera

I have a place that has 16 cameras throughout the facility. The dvr was swapped out along the way for a speco, but the cables and cameras are original. I believe it was originally a lorex dvr that failed, as the cables are 6 pin dins and the cameras hook up to them and get picture, power, and AUDIO. Apparently audio was built into these cameras and they don't have rca cables- it's all fed through the din line. The thing is that the installers put in cameras with really tight lenses- like 6mm at least and in a room, it sees not much more than a single table, when it is desired to see a wide view of the room. I can't seem to find these cameras anywhere to possibly score different lens ones- say 2.8 or even 3.6mm. I'm only guessing they are lorex because it was a lorex system originally. They have no label on the things, so I'm stumped. Actually I have two questions. - Does anyone know of these cameras and where I might find a selection of them? - Does anyone have a clue what a default speco login is? That's the other part- the owner has no clue how to log into the dvr and nothing typical has worked. Thanks for any clues.

    Mobotix or Axis

Generally speaking, for indoors I aim the top of a shot at the top of any doorway in the shot and no more. For outdoors, allowing for the tallest truck that could enter the shot and keeping as much sky out of the shot as possible is a good starting point. Good luck.
  7. Not only that, but you're not truly getting max archive time because when each hard dive becomes full, hard drive 1 will have the oldest footage to begin overwriting. I don't know the answer but I'm sure interested to find out as well.

    Mobotix or Axis

Exactly. The background of the shot need not be any taller than the tallest person that might stand there. Beautiful scenery out there, but no purpose in a surveillance shot above 7' or so. Then you'll have just as much as you need in the back of the shot, a ton more in the foreground, and probably a lot less light dynamics to wrangle through.
  9. At high bit rates even at 15fps, 64gb cards won't get you much at all- most especially residential. But that's not necessarily terrible either. Depends on your needs. Maybe a few days or a week is fine for you. Businesses will prefer longer storage times. I recently got 45 days out of a 3tb hard drive at a busy business with 2mp cameras at high bit rates, 15fps, motion AND two cameras recording full time. Cards are for short term storage only, ime.

    Mobotix or Axis

LOL, I watched that thing with anticipation, waiting for the "big moment". It never came.... Shockwave, do you know what mic you used, it isn't too bad. Thanks. Sorry, no big moment there! LOL! Just an example of audio. I would suggest that if you think you'll be using any extras, be it audio, aux, or alarms, hook them up initially. It's unlikely you'll want to do it after the fact and it can be more difficult to wire in than it has to be if you just do it right from the start. This is the mic I used. It has a good frequency response AND a gain adjustment knob- something I find very useful and not found on most other popular mics out there. Also, this is only rated indoors. Really?? That's counter productive for an installer. Why the heck would they force you to do that?

    Mobotix or Axis

This is a dome with audio I installed recently, with a cheap mic. Not an axis or mobotix mind you, but a good demo of how audio can be very effective indeed. 9djw0wodcrc

    Dahua camera configuration

It's probably best to just stop it from rebooting altogether. I'm assuming you mean the nvr is rebooting so just go into the auto maintenance menue and set auto reboot system to never. If the cameras are rebooting, you'll need to get into each of their web interfaces and do the same.

    DYNDNS account

I actually went with no-ip. The nvr has an updater in it, so no-ip fit the bill. As long as they don't start breaking the balls of free acount users, all will be fine. And I'm glad I went with no-ip because NOW dynds decided that free account users must login into their account once every thirty days to prove it's still active. The updater in your router, dvr, or nvr is NOT enough to prove that. You must actually log in once every thrirty days or you'll lose your account. The dollar...always the dollar.

    DYNDNS account

I 'm about to setup a free account. I have my own free account from back in the day when they were grandfather'd in. I don't dare touch that account. So for this person, I need to set them up with their own free account. Is it still the trial routine these days? You sign up for a trial pro account and then cancel the trial within 14 days, and that leaves you with one free host name?

    Puzzled to find a camera

PS- all this because some moron installer ran a lorex din system originally.

    Puzzled to find a camera

They have cheap universal connectors for the din cables, so using any camera was my plan. That is, until he said these cameras have built in audio as well and wanted to replace them with the same type of camera to avoid the expense of adapters and mics and all. We're talking a minimum of 7 or max of all 16 cameras. It's unrealistic at this point, I'm sure. Thanks for the logins- hope the admin one works! Oh yeah I see that site- thanks. The problem as well is I can't find ANY specs on the lens size, so I can't commit without knowing that. These things have to be 6mm- very tight shots, no wide angle. Even a 3.6 would be more appropriate. Not sure there ever was a choice of lenes, but without that- no go. Thanks for the heads up though! Yeah, they have plenty of that stuff. I'll have to see what he wants for a final solution.

Finally found the model number for these things- Lorex SG7518 Color CCD Camera. Now if I could just find a source for them.

There are exceptions, but generally the harder the target the better the chances are they'll move on to softer targets.

    Focusing dahua 2mp mini dome

I'll have to try that. I may try black gaffers stage tape on the upper half of the dome to see if that eliminates anything. Or, I may try a prefab type of sun visor for a 'roof' over them. One of the same cameras out there under an overhang handles the same dynamics fine. So it at least seems like overhead shelter helps. Tough one- wish I had all day access to the things. That alone makes it tough to solve.
  21. Having an early morning problem. This is when the sun starts putting rays into the camera, still a focused shot- This is around 8:30am when the focus gets whacked, and stays whacked until around 12pm and then in focuses back in again- I manually focused this camera from the lens to have great focus one afternoon when it was sunny out. And it is- really nice focused shot 21 hours a day. But between 8:30m 11:30 or so, it gets whacked. I can only figure the sun is doing this. It's fine on cloudy days. Any idea how to get this thing behaving better? Thanks.

    camera placement advice

Don't forget it only takes a single good frame for a chance to ID. As it's been mentioned, cameras are almost no deterrent at all. It only give us a chance for ID and that is a gamble at best. Criminals just go about their crime with cameras pointing right at them. But have barking dogs and then they move on to easier targets. You could also consider a higher mount with a varifocal camera to bring it back in tighter. Here's a couple examples of a 3.6 fixed 2mp dahua on a front door where the client wants the door, but is actually interested in the entrance to the lot in the distance as much or more because of frequent accidents. It's mounted about 10' high. One cam can only do so much, but a 2mp camera can suffice, albeit with some compromises.

    Puzzled to find a camera

Thanks for your reply. I actually tried admin/admin but I will certainly try the user and guest passwords. The cameras are still a mystery. It's actually very slick that they have a built in mic and it all passes though one din cable. But it's not good when you need to find that gear again, down the line.

    Focusing dahua 2mp mini dome

Thank you and yes, these cameras do have WDR and I thought of trying that first. But I haven't been much impressed with your trials with WDR on these budget cams- especially handling both day and night well. Seems either or, and if'y at best. But I may not have much choice. Worth a try I guess.
  25. I one million percent agree. What do they think anyone is gonna easily do with a huge RJ45 jack on a pigtail, let alone all the other possible connections dangling on the thing? Side note- I have a network cable run with a coupler to extend the cable, for years outside in a fairly protected area from the elements, well sealed with outdoor electrical tape. Never an issue in all this time.
