What has happened to this forum

I laugh when I see home depot or lowes commercials that make you feel like you have to get the hell up and do stuff ALL the time. When did *I* become expected to be a plumber, a landscaper, a roofer, a window installer, lay my own floors, a painter, an electrician, a woodworker, put my own rugs down, update my own kitchen & bathroom, install vanities & mirrors, put new garage doors on, install exterior lighting fixtures and low accent lighting, build your own FURNITURE, and FIX all that crap along the way. I had one shelf fall down in a closet last year. It was old. Before I was done I installed a whole new closet organizing system, a new rug, new lighting, new closet doors, and painted the whole damn room....because a shelf fell down. Install my own CCTV? Heh- just another thing on the list.

Dahua HDB3200c Artifacts / Bright Colour Problem

I'm tripping right now and I fail to see the problem- looks normal to me.
  3. Sloride- I was wondering how the avertx system has been working out for you. Would love to see pics/or some video of the images you're getting. I just looked at their offerings on costco and for the 16 channel, I'm amazed to see it has 16 POE built in. All things considered, this product looks like it has possibilities. But so far, you're the only one who seems to have it! If ya don't mind, some samples would be very cool. Thanks.

What has happened to this forum

I do agree that experienced members left. And also, it's exhausting trying wade through the tide of cheap system threads, for experienced members. After a while they'll throw up their arms and say I give- buy what you want....not even gonna bother debating about it anymore. It's rare to see someome come in and say money is no object, I want only the good stuff. It's all diy on a budget and the budget systems have invaded the IP/MP market now, so that forum is all about that too now. The only thing I'll say, just from being around every day, is that not many who are buying the budget stuff are crying that it sucks or is broken all the time. There's mostly information gathering, but not much 'I just bought utter crap' threads. Jeez, I have a q-see analog dvr with modest cameras and it's been fine for years now- doing what I expected of it...maybe even a little better than I expected. The budget systems for IP/MP have yet to prove themselves. Time will tell. But diy people able to heed advise to spend large bucks on expensive cameras is gonna be rare here. I wouldn't count on that changing...ever. The only way it would swing back is if enough people lose money on crap gear and they learn- cheap is cheap, cheap is expensive.

    Hammer Head PTZ Dome Camera

Well it's been through super storm sandy here, as well as our last blizzard of three feet- installed up on a pole. But it did get a little clogged from snow and the range of motion got a little stiff during the storm- but it cleared. You'd do better with a dome ptz but I wouldn't get one with IR inside, that's for sure. And that hammer head camera would probably give you trouble in heavy snow and ice too. You should be looking at only dome cameras, but avoid IR inside if you can.

    Hammer Head PTZ Dome Camera

I've seen a demo vid or two on that camera. I've been using this ptz and it's been great- built like a tank. If you want a ptz, I'd put this on the list to consider. http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/sd6923-6930-6936-6970-h--86.html

What has happened to this forum

So far since you've been posting all I see you mention is everything is crud. You can start by re-educating people to good product and why- that would be constructive. Want a better forum with better info? Help lead the way. Otherwise you're just ranting.

Setting up A DVR to send emails

In my experience, it's best to use your IP provider email address and information for the send. My cable provider is Optimum, so for the send I use my optonline email address and info. Gmail did not work, nor any other address. It only likes my email account from my internet provider. But for the receive, use any email address you want.

    NVR Causing Home Network Issues

Glad it's stable now. If I had to guess it was upnp. Now I have to ask you something. It was mentioned recently that an NVR that includes POE is trickier with port forwarding. Your problem with this kind of suggests it is. When you follow the manual, is there anything you do different or have to change when configuring things that's different than typical dvr port forwarding? Perhaps modify the subnet somehow? I'm just curious if there's any additional steps to port forward that he manual says, for an nvr with poe built in. Also, did you end up plugging it into the switch or the router? Thanks, and glad it was solved for you!

    Outside cameras small office building.

If the parking lot is lit up well all night, why not try the dahua 2mp mini domes? I'm installing these shortly at a daycare facility on the exterior for parking lot overview. I think they'll be great.
  11. Not all email/picture attachment alerts are created equal from unit to unit. It's best to get an eyeball on the user manual for your chosen nvr system when you're deciding. You want to make sure it sends video loss emails with picture attachment. A lot of units only attach a picture with motion events- probably the worst of the choices for outdoor cameras because of email flooding. I do email notification with picture attachment for two types of events for outdoor cameras- video loss and power loss. That way, if someone takes out a camera I get a picture of them right before they do it. It's also a good idea to install a camera right by the nvr and aim it for a mug shot. That way if the suspect decides to walk away with the nvr thinking he stole all the evidence too, you'll have an email picture of the video loss & power loss as well- a nice mug shot right at the nvr. I also wish EVERY dvr/nvr manufacturer would make email/picture attachment for video/power loss standard. For a vaction or remote residence I wasn't always at, this would be SOP for me and the install.
  12. I didn't hear any mention of your exterior lighting situation. If you have decent lighting at every camera location, I would have gone for the non IR domes. They're not only day. Given decent exterior light, they should give you a very nice picture. If this is truly an isolated residence, your gonna have to battle through webs on your IR cameras. Why everyone seems willing to go backwards with MP cameras with IR built in is a mystery to me. They're not good on analog cameras and they certainly won't be good on MP cameras- and you'll see the PIA webs in much better resolution at a much higher price tag. The principle does not change with MP cameras- avoid IR in the camera. I'd only do the IR bullets currently available with these packages if there was no other way to provide exterior light, period. Spiders find IR....fast.
  13. A new router and having to reboot daily does NOT spell great! LOL! There's something wrong with the router. I ran into that with a three year old netgear, but that was three years of wear and tear, not new. A new router, you should be able to walk away and forget it- that's the beauty of a new router! LOL! If it has healing settings, you can schedule a daily reboot so it does it for you. And even a working router does well with a reboot schedule of some kind. But having to reboot a new router every day- I'd be returning that thing but quick.

Simple house setup using POE cameras

Well this is the first I'm hearing about an NVR with built in POE being complicated to port forward. It sounds like you're talking about bridging a modem/router with a router. I guess I'll have to see if the dahua with 4 port POE built in adds a complication to simple port forwarding for the thing. I didn't think it would and there's good start up docs with it, so I'll see. Since you're the only person that referenced this by saying there's extra complication with built in POE, I'm gonna have to report back if that holds true.

Need Help with q-see 600TVL cam acting up

How did you 'reset' those cameras? You could try separate power adapters for them just to see if it helps, but it's likely you got a few bad cameras in the bunch. Better to RMA for new ones since it is new, rather than dealing with fussy cameras.

Simple house setup using POE cameras

Well if you have an nvr and a router that both support upnp, you could try that and see if it helps makes the process less painful. It's supposed to do just that, but it can be hit and miss. It's worth a try first to see though.

Adding more than 4 cameras to QC808

Awesome! I've been following but didn't have any suggestions. Bundle up and and install that sucker! Good luck!

Simple house setup using POE cameras

What's the extra step beyond normal port forwarding? Beyond generalizing, detail it because I could be facing this scenario in the near future.
  19. Costco specs put it at a 4mm lens. It's good to see the cameras available separately now. The only thing they need to do now is add a choice for a dome camera without IR- but make it IR sensitive.

Simple house setup using POE cameras

What? NVR with POE is supposed to be easier than networking in separate cameras. All you do is hookup the nvr to your router and the usual steps to port forward, much like a dvr. What's the difficulty?
  21. Those comments were among the last he made. Clearly he needs to investigate camera choices too. I don't get stuck on arguments- I read what the OP has on his mind when he replies. He needs to read up on cameras and software and that's a nice blog to read with good examples, that's all.
  22. Buy from a good retailer. You mentioned a dahua nvr- is that not the same issue?
  23. If a 4mm fixed would work for you, the GS9213DE could be good too.
  24. If you can turn off the IR from the camera web interface, sure- do that. But if you have good light at each location, it's a pretty good bet it'll be plenty to make a MP camera happy.
  25. How much exterior light will you have at each location? I would much sooner provide sufficient light, and then get a dome without IR. And it will cut down on spiders and webs all over the thing too. Nothing worse than spending money on an MP camera, only to blow hard drive space on webs waving about in front of your dome. You could also think about a dome without IR but IR sensitive, and provide the IR from a separate fixture. I would not start to move into expensive MP gear only to go backwards with IR in the cameras- especially a dome. You're not gonna be happy. Example- http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1010
