Few basic questions D1 related
shockwave199 replied to Brent1971's topic in General Digital Discussion
After a good night sleep I think I got it. 'I'm not that rich to buy garbage'. It wasn't the translation, it was the spelling. I do agree with that and I have another way of putting it. Cheap is cheap, cheap is expensive. -
Here's a fun one.....what have you caught on camera?
shockwave199 replied to ocdchris's topic in General Digital Discussion
I didn't catch it right from the start, but I believe most of the kids were locals from down the street, not passengers. But that was a double flat- where he picked that up from who knows but that had to suck. I guess when you're young you take it in stride. I would have been cursing for days and with my luck, both tires would need replacing, not just fixing. -
Best place to buy online?

They run expensive though. At least that was my impression last time I browsed there. -

There's a ton of previous info here. Search the forums. Good info will surely turn up as you wade through it. Good luck. -
Analog Cameras without lens. Can I use eyeglass lenses?
shockwave199 replied to scorpion's topic in Security Cameras
There's only one single person who's taken things too seriously here as of late, imo. But I won't be saying who I think that is any time soon. -

Try as I may, no- that's doesn't make sense to me. Something is lost in the translation I think. It would be good to know exactly what cameras you have in line now are. Something tells me they may not be all that good. Nothing is a given. If the cameras stink it won't matter. Nothing about D1 will help you ID someone 20' out, by itself. You need cameras that will have a tight fov for proper facial ID. With better analog gear including varifocal cameras for proper fov, you'll have better picture. Whether that would even be good enough for YOU, only you can say. If not, you'll have to move on to MP camera systems to satisfy your needs. -

Where to buy anything can not be shared openly here. Expect some PM's for retailers, if anyone takes the time to do so. Good luck. -

Double flat. How many people does it take to fix a flat tire? Apparently only one butt crack guy. Most of the six other people are content to split! n8Quujp27N8 -

Swann SWDVK-826008 system and GadSpot replacement camera
shockwave199 replied to randomwalk101's topic in Security Cameras
What do you mean when you say the resolution is the same? Things to consider- - The dvr channel recording resolution settings - The cables used - The setup of the camera, including proper focus -
Ok I see. But this is beyond rediculous, to me.
-
Oops- sorry. But is there not a make and model number in that post too??
-
In that price range I would also consider a Dahua 4 channel Dvr. I can be hard to nail down a choice. Product, features you most want, after purchase support. Keep that in mind when choosing. Good luck! [edited by mod to remove model]

Drop Ceiling Camera Mounting
shockwave199 replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If needed, I would replace the screws with longer ones fitted with a wing nut so you can screw it snug to the opposite side of the ceiling. -
And btw, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy ends up being charged with attempted murder. He clearly chased them, shooting to kill, when they were no longer a threat to his life. A terrible lack of judgement for those around him at that point as well. That's why you don't arm people who don't know what the frig they are doing. I'm not on the kids side and I'm not a defense attorney. But it ain't hard to wrap up that scene...being caught on cctv and all....

Wild west bull****t. The guy may have had some target range pratice, but he showed a lack of training when it came to firing a gun in a cowded establishment. He was actually no more responsible with his weapon than the bandits were. He was LUCKY he didn't hit or kill an innocent bystander. Think he'd be cheered then? Think he wouldn't have been charged then? Think he wouldn't be doing jail time then? What if they shot back and a gun battle errupted? What if your family member was killed because of it? Would you let the guy off the hook for killing your wife or kid when you found out the bandits had a fake gun? A moronic Florida law doesn't make it right. As much as I don't want to see innocent people in harms way during an armed robbery, I don't want to see them in harms way from a guy with a concealed weapon either. Two wrongs don't make a right. I heard a good question at an OSHA meeting once and I remember it still. Did you have a safe day, or did you have a lucky day? That day was all about luck. No one was any safer with all three of them being in there. My 2 cents.

You and maybe one other person can get out there and do some motion trigger experimenting and see what, when, and how things will trigger. That's about all you can do to see how well your settings work. You have some decent trigger settings though- better than just one typical sensitivity setting with masking. Good luck. Controlling motion triggering outdoors is not easy.

Window warning decals?

Home depot used to have packs of six- nice ones. Got some a couple years ago. They may still carry them. Or Lowes maybe. -
ESCBT700-VDIC2 vs CMR5077DW vs AP-CG40SHS-70 vs ESC1-wdr2
shockwave199 replied to Gesualdo's topic in Security Cameras
The only camera I recognize from that list is the ESCBT700-VDIC2. I did a little video demo on it. How they all compare I do not know. -
I would guess motion delay to be a user defined setting where the dvr will delay recording after motion is sensed, in an effort to cut down on false momentary triggering. Like a bird flying by in one second, but the delay to record is set to four seconds so it won't record that event. I'm guessing... Also if you have the setting, keep post recording of events to a short time, perhaps 15 or 30 seconds tops after motion recording. This will help keep file sizes much smaller.

I looked in the manual for that dvr and didn't find anything for the smart search feature you mention. Whatever that is, that's the best you can hope for when you let the dvr channels sense motion. You can't completely block out every movement with cameras outdoors. For this reason, people install PIR sensors for greatly improved motion sensing. It's been discussed a lot here. Do a search for it.

While stopped at intersection- have you looked up lately?
shockwave199 posted a topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Red light cameras have become very popular in my area. When I stop for a red light these days, it's a habit to scope out the intersection for red light cameras. But beyond those obvious camera systems, I've noticed something else and I have no idea how long they've been in place; ptz cameras. This is separate installs not connected with red light camera systems, it would seem. I mean at the top of poles at intersections more often than not, there they are. I'm guessing it's police systems or maybe even homeland security. It's not traffic cameras- this is suburban towns I'm talking. Who knows but man, they are up there all over the place. At those heights they appear small, but you know they're watching all kinds of stuff. It is likely that on average, when we leave our homes we're on camera more often than not. Doesn't bother me. But crap...those ptz's I never noticed up there are all over the place. Take a look sometime- you'll see 'em. Lots of 'em. -
Gadspot IP cameras - anyone have experience with them?
shockwave199 replied to need2shave's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sometimes you have to be the one to try something new and report back. My experience with them and their analog cameras has been great, if that says anything. If I were interested in that product I'd have no hesitation at all checking it out from them. -
Here's a fun one.....what have you caught on camera?
shockwave199 replied to ocdchris's topic in General Digital Discussion
Yes I did turn on IR and it wasn't nearly as bright as it could go. It's the IR built into the dome. It's a 27x zoom camera and even at max zoom the IR will fully light up the area. I can set the IR to zoom match it's brightness, but this dome supports incemental brightness on the iris buttons in the software- very much like having the IR dimmable from off to full on and everything in between. It's a great feature to this ptz for sure. In this footage, I manually turned the IR on via iris control and it was at about the second step of brightness on the subjects which were approx 65' from the camera. Making the IR any brighter at that distance would have over exposed the subjects. Hope that helps you. -
Don't feel self conscious about installing cameras. Put them up and protect your home and family. If it helps, keep in mind all the annoying things your neighbors will make YOU endure. Installing your own cameras is a lot less conspicuous than having someone like ADT do it. Your neighbors won't automatically know you're installing cameras if they don't actually see you doing it. I did my install on weekdays when most people are at work. Once it's up, you may know the cameras are there, but it's not a given everyone else will see them. From the street, unless you know they're there, cameras can't be seen very easily. Also consider that most people are conditioned to seeing cameras these days- it's common even on homes. When I installed my ptz on the front of my home and given it's size, I knew that I might have some explaining to do about that one. I live on a court with two immediate neighbors. In these few months since installing it, I've explained the camera to them just to put them at ease. Keep in mind I know my neighbors, relatively speaking- I've been here for years. I know it's likely they've seen it, so I felt it was better to explain that not only does the camera monitor my property, but it's also a neighborhood watch- documenting any problems especially over night. I told them if they ever have any trouble just ask me, I may have recorded the event. That approach seems to have worked well. One kid noticed the camera following him as it was auto tracking- I wasn't even at the camera at that time. Annoying 'kid' problems have subsided. Install your cameras and don't stress. Unless you use a large camera like a ptz, most won't even know they're there, no matter how much you think they will.
