Go to gadspot. com and grab four GS830SM in white. For under 100 bucks, it really doesn't get better than what that camera offers, including smart IR which will adjust itself when someone gets close to it like the front door, so they don't white out. Good luck.

Download it and have a look around. You don't have to open cameras or even have a system. Just download and look around the app. I did it by mistake thinking it would support my dvr- I was wrong. Looks pretty good to me and would be just fine to use should my current system and software no longer be needed.

best way to focus manual zoom cameras?
shockwave199 replied to cloudy's topic in General Digital Discussion
I take a small netbook up with me and view the camera remotely. The delay isn't a deal breaker. It's mostly the screen you're using and the focus setting you settle on. On this netbook screen, the best focus is obvious but still isn't cystal, all things considered. But at the dvr monitor, crystal clear. So I have found that even remotely you can hit the right focus without too much fuss. -
Every so often I sit back while monitoring my system and just kinda marvel at how well it's doing, and the fact that I somehow, being a DIY setup, managed to get it done!

License Plate Camera Situation and Recommendation
shockwave199 replied to tutech's topic in System Design
I would have to guess a faulty camera as well. You have made that dvr channel record the best it can, but have you looked at the display settings for that channel? Brightness & contrast are the two to look at and adjust if needed. Also check to see if hue & saturation are out of whack as well. You should try to put another camera on that line temporarily and check if it behaves properly. You mention the live view is fine. Is it also fine at night with the IR's on? Is there suffient power going to the camera when the IR's are on? Also try a different channel in the dvr and see if the results are different. -

Going to analog from digital, and learning the hard way

Yeah, hit and miss. My 408 has been great. But if or when it craps out, I'll be getting an Dahua for sure as well. -

shockwave199 replied to thx123a's topic in General Digital Discussion
First off, I welcome home! I have the 408. Curious- what do you need to work around? I also have a kickass ptz and would recommend it if that's what you really need. Does very well in low light and has seriously great IR when you need it. Check my vids for it. -
I understand that. I've been going over a year with a fanless model, but I understand what you're saying. It applies to much more than a dvr recorder as well, when it comes to hard drives. I've only been exposed to one dvr with a fan and the thing sounded like a vacuum. I will not tolerate a loud fan. I'm spoiled with fanless now, so it'll be tough if I ever have to get another one.

I need some advice on a new camera setup *pictures included*
shockwave199 replied to BrutusBoots's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think you'd be better off using separate cameras to cover the areas you need in front. Otherwise a ptz will have to be constantly on the move from spot to spot, with the large possibility it will not catch a problem in progress properly, and will also kill the camera quicker from constant movement. In my opinion, it's always better to have single cameras cover the specific spots you need. Then if a ptz makes sense for broader support, so be it. Not really knowing your layout in the back, I might consider a ptz to scan the full side and back property including the shed- a very wide area. But still keep all your separate cameras at your proposed locations back there. In the front, a well placed camera to cover the front door, and another to cover the driveway would be best. Check out the Dahua ESIP-MP1.3-BT1 1.3, which looks to be a great camera to consider. -

dyndns---two camera's on one account?
shockwave199 replied to quick_pick's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So if I had two dvr's I could use one host name and just use a different port for each? Like one would be mydvr.dyndns.tv;89 and one could be mydvr.dyndns.tv;91? And then just hit those addresses remotely? I could maybe point IP cams to that adress too, such as mydvr.dyndns.tv;97 and so on? The host name stays the same but the port extension is the thing that changes? I thought I'd have to have a separate host name for each device on an open port. I'd be glad to be wrong! I'd love one host name to do all the work. Easier for sure. -
dyndns---two camera's on one account?
shockwave199 replied to quick_pick's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Cool, but then why would anyone need more than one name? In what instance would you need say, five names or even two? -
Thanks for the info. The deal breaker for me is a fan. I do not want a fan in any dvr I consider. Like you, in this instance I prefer stand alone as well too.

Dome camera mounting options
shockwave199 replied to pal251's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
How about against the wall facing out and down. Slanted eaves can be tough and by the time you rig up something to get the field of view you're looking for, you may as well just mount it to the wall. Place it in such a way that it's on the wall but almost behind the bottom of the eave, if you follow. Generally, as high on the wall as you can before the bottom of the eave cuts off the view. Good luck. -
Cool link. It seems like there's two kinds of cable there, the cheaper cable that states 'Terminated Siamese Cable' and then a little more expensive cable that states 'True RG59 Cable'. I'm guessing the the termination wires are of better quality?
-
Well that's great info that should be 'spelled out' in the documentation. Good catch. Thanks for that update. I'll be tucking this into my brain if/when I move to that dvr. Btw- how do you like the dvr? Does that one have a fan? Loud?

Yeah I mean, even I could see through that one. Live/recording is like city/highway. You lead with your best spec. It's that 704/720 that I didn't take into account. -

704x480 720x480 Thank you. I have learned something. That bit of difference has sneaked by me. I'd be fine buying a 4cif spec, but at least I know what I'm truly buying. I feel like a dope, but I hate perpetuating marketing lies with any product. So live and learn. -

They seem to be plentiful enough now. I don't think you have to look very far to find dvr's offering D1, albeit in a number of different ways that could be considered a drawback, such as low fps or not on every channel. But even full D1 30 fps dvrs are just a click away now. -
Whatever the ptz, only expect to watch the birds best when they're not in flight. Keeping up with small birds in flight with even a high speed dome camera will be a pain I think- not much fun for watching. But re-aiming to certain spots and watching them while not in flight will be great. Nests even better. But tracking small birds in flight, yuck. Too much work and no real bird watching pleasure, I would think.
