    D1 vs. CIF?

I agree too. How many cameras do you really need, first off?
  2. Cool. I think they just look for anything that may be of value laying around in the car, mostly. Locked cars usually prevent that type of crime of opportunity, unless the object of affection is SO valuable they bash through and grab. But very cool you got a shot of him. My neighbors have come to love my ptz out front. With it's auto tracking and scanning, it's truly a neighborhood crime watch dynamo all on it's own!
  3. Huh- yeah post the footage when you can. That's how they do it here too- nice and quiet on bikes in the wee hours.

    watching cameras without dydns

I understand why there are exceptions and good reasons why someone would want to pay for a static ip or even a dyn account. Thus far only needing one free address from dyndns, I can only say that for over a year there has never been a single glitch or wait time for the forward outside of maybe five seconds. If there is a best, so far my experience is dyndns. If I ever need more addresses though, I'll have to look to something else such as that no ip site or the free site q-see uses. Or maybe just keep getting free addresses from dyndns by making up different accounts as needed.

Yep- here too. That's 120 bucks a year, verses free.

And static IP's cost money from your ISP. They typically do that type of an account for business, not residence.
  8. Cool, well sock a nice antron on top of that sucker too! Take pics when you get it setup. Good luck.

ICR True Day & Night VS IR LED Camera

Pictures paint a thousand words. Smart IR demo- uzLij9zJw7Q No IR cut, notice the odd colors of bushes and trees- IR cut, notice the colors are now correct- Now put that all together in something like a gadspot GS830SM, and you have as nice camera for your situation- IR cut will mostly help your daytime colors in your office, but it also improves the black and white image at night as well, in my experience.
  10. I was gonna suggest- that's pretty high. Not to mention, it probably won't be the most attractive looking thing on your property either. It may be cool as hell at that vantage point- you'll get quite a view of the neighborhood. Nothing would be nicer than a ptz without viewing limits holding back it's potential! But practically speaking, that high up will be a servicing hassle. And when it comes to viewing your property you'll always be looking down on everything no matter how tight the zoom. With radio antennas, height is might. With a ptz in residential, too high is not good I think. I would only go as high as I absolutely need to see what I need to see, trying to keep a decent horizontal plane and avoid the birds eye view. Every application is different of course, but don't do extreme height unless you really need it, imo.

    Additional IR light. Advice?

If it's at all possible, add exterior lighting rather than IR. Cameras see so much better when an area is covered well with exterior lighting, and that makes for a much improved image. You do have to take care that the camera won't be looking directly at the light and that the light fixture is out of frame. But if it's possible, improve exterior lighting rather than IR. If it must be IR, treat the seconday fixture as you would as second light bulb. Aim it in such a way that it increases the light coverage of the area. Don't just point it exactly where the cameras IR is illuminating. Increase the coverage area as much as you can. You'll know when it's best.

ICR True Day & Night VS IR LED Camera

Only get a TDN camera with a cut filter. Daytime colors wll be correct and without the filter, colors will not be correct. In total darkness, I would suggest you get a camera that also features smart IR, which adjusts the light output when someone is in view so they don't become white washed with no chance of ID'ing.

No video from any camera on any channel

    LOL! Good one!
  14. Possibly, but not knowing for sure I'd bet more on sway than vibration.

    Really cool CCTV Commercial

I'm gonna guess it's all real footage, and pretty cool at that!

Yeah, don't be embarrassed about something simple! I'm curious too.

    Home Security System

Frankly I think the cnb's are over rated, but that's me. If you've had two break ins within the past year, you have other issues to tackle before a camera system that might or might not deter another one, and probably won't help you solve anything if another robbery happens. You seem a bit ho-hum after being robbed twice. After being robbed twice, I think I'd want armed guards, attack dogs, and ptz cameras at every corner of the property. Not an overview where ID isn't important, as you put it. Is your home alarmed? Has the break ins occurred at certain windows or doors? Have those locations been addressed with new locking hardware? If you haven't, consider your process in these steps- - Fix and/or replace all entrance points with new locking hardware, which can cost hundreds in itself, btw- for the good stuff. - Install a decent home alarm system, with perhaps alarm sirens outside front and back. Most home wireless systems are a diy project and while they're not always perfect, it's WAY better than nothing at all. - Proper exterior lights on all doorways and entrances that need it. Motion lights at any other points you feel need light. A good lighting scheme will help any cameras you install see better too. Finally, a camera system. The one you put together is fine. If it were me, I'd get an eight channel system. I'd have cameras on entrances for ID, and however many needed for overviews of the property. Those overviews will benefit from exterior lighting. The wider the shot, the more you'll need light to help illuminate the area to actually see something other than darkness or low light noise. It costs money to deter crime, but it's either spend it on that or lose it to being robbed. And since it's happened twice now, you are a mark. Do as much as you can to help stop it. Best of luck to you.

    Network Camera install question

You might want to post this in the IP forum.

    Surveillance DVR recording quality Q

A good full D1 dvr will give you that option per channel, but will also give you other options per channel such as HD1 [half D1] which is better than CIF, and CIF as well. Whether you can stream eight channels of D1 at highest bit/frame rate depends on your internet speed. But a good dvr will let you allocate per channel and balance it all out if you need to. If you want the most our of analog, you'll need to upgrade the dvr to full D1.

    Help/Advice on new home system

Well, I can vouch for the 700 TVL. Good camera and I like it so far.
  22. What's your poilicy- shoot first and ask questions later? Or would you talk and disarm him? Hold him until the police got there? Truly shoot to kill? First off, it's scary to see those pics but great you got it recorded. Here in NY, pulling the trigger at any time openes up a major investigation. Even if you're in the right such as your case and it's deemed so in the end, there is MAJOR answering due for pulling the trigger, man. You pull that trigger, you damn well better be sure it was justified to use that force. That, coupled with the fact that most people actually can't kill in cold blood- even if it's warranted- is what makes this area a tough one for the innocent, the homeowner. It's the inability to actually pull the trigger on someone that many times gets YOU killed. Rather than shoot to kill, something not many are truly trained to do, we tend to warn people and avoid shooting. And that very thing is what puts us at so much of a disadvantage with hardened criminals. I'm glad it didn't get to that far for you. I hope it never does. I'm glad your cameras got the footage. And I really hope you're never faced with such a desicion in the future again.
  23. Go-kart rider creating general havoc on busy streets. I pointed the ptz and got these, just to keep on file. Something about the pics makes me laugh though! I think it's because he thinks he can't get caught.

Qsee QSD2316L DVR & the net

The verison comments make no sense to me and if it means that their service, modem, or routers won't do a simple port forward without throwing extra money their way, I know why I DO NOT have verison nor would I ever subscribe. But I don't think that info is entirely accurate. Doesn't sound right.
