    Auto tracking in action- video

You're kidding me right? I mean- you really have nothing better to do than knit pick a test video of analog auto tracking? Seriously man? I beginning to think taking back my apology was a mistake I edited the footage in a couple of spots because, - The movement stopped and nothing was worth watching - I wanted to get some other events into a long vid as it is - Because it runs long, it'll give you a headache watching it. A couple edits to other events was needed, imo. Oh wait- you think I was hiding poor tracking? Yeah, right from the start in my vids about it, I've hidden the fact that it's not perfect. Yep, I wish to fool everyone into thinking it's perfect Anything else? Apparently you wish to go on looking foolish a bit more.

    Question about proper cameras

Ak357 uses a screen cap of my youtube video as a comparison! You don't really have to resort to using screen caps to compare an MP picture do you? I mean, really Now THAT'S sad- and hysterical! If you sat down and showed me those two pics for your comparison presentation- I'd show you the door before you could utter another word. Ridiculous comparisons do nothing for me. I suppose most of your clients are as unenlightened as you figure the OP is. By all means, if you wish to use my material for your presentations I'd be more than happy to supply you with pics from the actual backups. It'll save you the work. Just ask me- I'm more than accomodating and it'll make you look less of a fool. So, if you haven't been convinced by that show of screen cap wizardry to go with MP cams...I haven't used those q-see cameras so I don't know. Some here may have- maybe they'll check in. Do a search for them and read- there's a ton of info about all kinds of cameras here. Check out gadspot. com for some decent cameras that will cost you less for the same and better specs, too. Those I do use. The screen cap mister ak357 used is from my ptz. This is at it's widest, looking out some 40' with a wide fov- And he IS right there is no way to expect an ID shot from that with an analog camera that wide. This is a somewhat tighter shot and it's still not great- Here it's better when zoomed in 12x on the mailbox, but then you lose your wide fov. And really, you'd need an even tighter shot than this for a really good shot- Have overview shots of the front and back- that's fine. But tighter shots are needed for ID, such as doors and windows. Good luck to you.

As I mentioned, I have to fine tune zoom match to get closer shots. This was really the first time I could tweak things without looking like an idiot out there myself 1) It does not seem predictable in terms of what the camera does or does not key in on. This I was interested in myself. At that set zoom match, it was managing everything as best it could- something I think it did well actually 2) It appears to miss a lot of semi-dominant objects in its decision process I don't agree. That's a large area out there and it kept track of kids, walkers by, and some cars. I was very glad to see that not every car passing called it away from the primary subjects too 3) The constant motion of the camera creates significant motion blur, obscuring details I noted this too. It was keeping track of a big stretch of activity though. 4) The relatively slow focus of the camera adds delay to getting a sharp image after it stops at a dwell point This I noted too. I have it set on high speed focus, but that's all I can do. I still think the speed is quick enough to be useful 5) The level of zoom does not appear to be enough to give much usable detail, it only provides a tighter relative shot. As mentioned, more zoom match adjusting needed

First off, you're right. I came on too strong and I apologize to all. You are also right that I have found a system that is working for me. I think it's fun and informative to share it, for better or for worse. But your comments are more fallout from another thread. What gets frustrating is when professionals such as yourself take almost any opportunity to point out that systems working for people are inferior compared- or aren't worth buying because they can't compare to MP cameras. Btw- that's blatantly obvious to most everyone without a constant reminder. It's much the same fodder as in many other forums, where there are people who use and subscribe to expensive gear and the others who for whatever reason can't and go with other options. The professionals will never stop pointing out some equipment can't compare, and the others will use the gear that can't compare with fine results. It's the nature of forums and how people operate. I lost sight of that and lashed out. Sorry for that. As for auto tracking- say what you will. I still think it's more worth it to have than not, when considering an analog ptz camera. If it doesn't give me the shot I needed, I wouldn't have gotten it anyway. My odds only get better that I will get the shot if it can track it. The choice is up to the buyer. Maybe the demo will help decide. In all of youtube, this one video does more to demo auto tracking than any other- no matter what level of camera we're talking about. That's why I put it out there. Hope it helps someone.

    Quality of Cameras [Photo Included]

You added the KT&C. That's wide angle for the room. One camera may not be enough if you need more detail from any one spot.

    Quality of Cameras [Photo Included]

With better focus I'd bet you could read the plate through the door. That doesn't seem like much of a challenge for that camera if well focused.

What's your problem with them? They look like they need more focusing to me.

    Auto tracking in action- video

You were waiting all night to say that? How was your popcorn in the mean time? What if I had an MP camera in the same spot? What would it have gotten when the kids went out of frame down the other street? The big kid on the bike that was harassing the little kid in the pink car- what if he was actually beating the living crap of someone. What if it were ME and the WIFE getting an ass whopping and robbed out there by all of them. And then the big kid on the bike rides around the corner like he did with the other girl and hands off a gun or a knife or my wallet- which the camera tracked. And the car that passes by that is tracked down the street some was involved, stolen, and found ditched a mile away. What if my ptz had been parked on my car and missed all of it? How much of a toy would it be then? I'm not so much of a dick as to make a general statement that auto tracking is perfect, just like a dick would be to say it's a toy or your camera will break to someone trying to add something interesting to a forum. I'll let you all know if and when it does btw, so you can laugh and say I told you so. A few of you can't help but live up to my expectations and anyone visiting these forums can see it too, which is the biggest laugh of all. You can put a serious crime caught to any of that footage and it tracked a lot of it. No toy to to me. Perfect? No. Lucky if you track the right thing? Yes. Increase your odds of tracking anything worth it? Hell yes. And that's where I see the feature being worth it over a ptz that can't auto track. I use the camera as support for my fixed cameras, not as one single solution for all. Even MP cameras- if you don't have something like a four camera 'ptz' arecont fixture, you'd better have full coverage with multiple cameras regardless of how well they see in one direction. I'm talking an analog ptz with auto tracking in a residential setting with a budget homeowners could probably swing. Not MP cameras. And for the life of me, I can't understand why the MP guys like to jump into analog threads and ****t on us all the time. Kinda reminds me of the big kid on the bike pushing the little kid in the car around in my footage. A dick showing poor form. Predictable, and unlikely to change.
  9. Yeah I know, but when you mentioned scratching your head about the plugin, thought it might be worth mentioning.
  10. I would love to see how your auto tracking works when you have more then 1 object to track. That's what made this footage so interesting- there were I think four kids playing on bikes and mini cars, a jogger, and cars passing by. I was so freakin happy to see the circus out there! LOL! Awesome test to see how it does. It did better than I expected. But that's for another thread coming.
  11. In a short while tonight I'm posting footage of this camera in auto tracking mode. It's the hands when mine aren't on it- the camera that is. I wager this mailbox wouldn't call it to action though! LOL! Still tweaking it for best results, but it's mighty interesting for sure. Look in the security camera forum for the post in a bit.
  12. Interesting - I have a Vivotek cam here on my bench, Chrome just tells me I'm missing a plugin, but doesn't tell me what it is. I CAN get to the configuration pages, however, just no live video. Only a guess mind you, but no harm in trying- search for and dl the IE tab plugin while in chrome. This is how I get web app in chrome to see live video for my dvr. When you type in the address it still won't show feed, but hitting the IE tab button will bring it up. Then I save that bookmark to the IE tab and it will open automatically when I go to that bookmark. Might not help you at all- just a stab in the dark.
  13. A tip of me hat to ya matey, I can't. But for lowly analog D1, I can get at least this- Circled is a mailbox approx 125' out Zoomed into the very small address numbers- Much smaller than a plate, albeit stationary. I'll measure that out for distance accuracy. Believe me, I'm not dilusional with this. I understand the differences in simple terms of picture quality and I bet for the same shot with your camera you could drill into the name scratched into the plastic with a pocket knife and it'd be perfectly legible. But down here in the 'worst analog D1' we're hanging in, we're hanging in.
  14. True about the human mind, but that's exactly what makes the weakest evidence- the eye witness. It's considered the weakest of evidence because of how our minds can skew and fit or remember incorrectly or fill in the blanks just plain wrong. As you said, crappy footage may be good for generating leads, but to me, why not have good footage for more positive results. If all it comes down to for conviction is weak footage and some people testifying they believe that's the person, I would think that won't stick. Too much reasonable doubt. Good footage to match the person- a home run. That's probably what most of it is. I don't think many besides those of us who are interested or in the business give much thought as to how well the system they have in place will help them in time of need. And that's why we continually see garbage footage. And seeing that always makes me take stock of how my own system is doing. As to your photos- they are great. I'm not against progress- they are clearly great shots. But I don't think it's entirely necessary for good ID shots. I have a number of pictures from my analog system that look excellent and can ID someone too, at a fraction of the cost. Go high end if you can afford high end. But absolutely necessary? I don't think so- my opinion only of course.
  15. All I know is every...single...night on the news, all you see is horrid cctv footage. If that's any indication, quality footage has a LONG way to go before it becomes the norm. I'm not talking about the stuff homeowners are getting- I mean commercial and public systems capturing crime every day. I have yet to see a piece of footage that impresses me. Even most stills from that footage is terrible. It makes me think- why did they bother when the system has fallen so short for ID'ing. Jewelry stores, banks, you name it. You see this footage come up on the news and it's all complete crap- nearly worthless. Modest gear for residential gives better results. Why then does public and commercial footage look so bad? If that is what's being installed mostly, just to have a system in place, forget about anyone caring for high quality footage. It's just not gonna catch on.
  16. I have not used ZM, but realize any decent dvr can do all that. I get where you're coming from and soundy will be of more help to you. I am the opposite mostly, when it comes to many things about recording tasks. I usually prefer stand alone units. They are designed to do one thing and do it well. For me with cctv, it was no contest- a stand alone system for the task. Anyway- good luck to you.

    Video distortion at night

Wow- that's like a horizontal roll going there. Power starve can cause that roll? How many channels is your dvr? Have you hooked it up to a different channel in the dvr to see if it helps? At night, have your tried wiggling the bnc connector in the back of the dvr to see if it clears? Where is the power adapter hooked up? Anything else sharing the outlet? I have a couple 100' spaghetti runs with that spec power and adapter and don't have a problem. But that roll thing going on- weird.
  18. What do you want out of that one view- overall monitoring or ID detail of every location within that view? And how and where are you going to be monitoring- or monitoring at all? Or do you plan on just reviewing recorded footage after the fact once in a while or as needed? It strikes me as being an awful lot of work and consideration if all you want to do is point one camera for an overview. In your case, I would be inclined to get a quality four channel dvr, four good cameras, point them for excellent views of your locations, power up and there you have it. Depending on how important it is to get up and running quickly, you could be monitoring and recording with a system like that already. Edit- ok, maybe not ALREADY- lol. But you know what I mean.
  19. Yeah well...somethings gotta give- either his price range or his expectations.
  20. If you run a stand alone analog or hybrid dvr with cameras, your choices open up considerably. That's asking a lot of one camera. You might consider a ptz. You might cram all that into one view, but it's doubtful much more than your dead center shot will give you decent detail.
  21. It just gets tiring when someone never misses an opportunity to put down peoples choices in gear. To me, it works against your credibility to take that childish route, time and time again.
  22. The dvr being spoke about, and consequently the title of the thread, is Real Time 4CH D1 Resolution 30FPS DVR. The only one talking about CIF recorded video...is you. Perhaps you've lost your way again. Here, let me help you- viewforum.php?f=19

    Pimp my eyeball cam

That's pretty cool man! Of course if you have before and after pics from what the camera sees that would great. How are you powering them?

    Video- PTZ finally installed!

I finally got the camera installed. I'm glad to have this task off my plate and I can move on to other chores and enjoy this camera! I made a video and I hope someone will find it useful. Not many residential install vids for ptz's to be had, so I figured I'd make one. The camera is a sony effio 650tvl. The dome is compatable with a bunch of other cameras including cnb, panasonic, etc. This video is not a great indication of the camera picture quality due to compression, sometimes more than once. The live, remote, and avi files are excellent and crisp. Anyway, I'm done- BOOM! 8eKPmVop1FU

    Night cameras???

It's hard to just say get a good sensitive camera in low light because I think it may be more than that. It may be that you're blowing up what might be an acceptable amount of noise to such an extent that it's unaccetable looking. It may be the camera just isn't giving you a strong IR wash. Or it could be crap cameras with really weak IR's no matter how many they shove in there. Hard to say except I think it's got to do with a direct component input to the tv doing that and I don't think buying an ever more expensive camera with more menu options will really solve anything the way you're hooking them up. You might be better putting money into a dvr with HDMI or VGA to the tv if that's what you want. But as you see, in general it's best to actually provide exterior light to help the camera see in the dark. It's good for the camera and good for deterrant. Sometimes IR can be helpful but in all eight of my cameras, I've found the only truely useable and powerful IR is in my ptz with only eight IR leds- but those suckers make some serious light when called on. And mostly I don't call on them. A good sensitive camera in low light without IR is a good thing. As to your problem, I don't know- wait for more suggestions before dumping more money out. Good luck.
