Either they are broken, or you are not providing enough power to them such as on a long length of cable to the camera, or there is other exterior light by the camera that is enough to keep the IR's off- in a sense fooling camera into thinking it's daylight.

Anyone have experience with VONNIC Cameras?
shockwave199 replied to niceguymr's topic in Security Cameras
Consider Gadspot. com too. Good quality cams at great prices. Consider their smart IR line. Good luck. -
I made another video. You'll have to bear with me I guess- I'm having a bunch of fun with my new camera and I enjoy making videos. So whether this is goofy or of no interest, it's out there anyway! MHOQjex_5vo

Ya...ok. Have some pot and a bed around when you show it. Apparently it's music to get laid to- or at least it was in the 70's.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I've been wrong before when doing that. And I have this nagging feeling....

Thanks for watching and saying so!

Would you believe this IS edited! HA! But yeah when I look at it, there is definitely fat to be trimmed. I really wanted to use Stings- I'll be watching you. But youtube sucks now. They have some pretty strong filters for commercial tracks now. Almost always in that instance, the audio gets muted entirely. Maybe good you say?! I could not speak and use only captions. But again, that's not as effective to me. Trim the fat and stick to the point- should help keep the 'focus'.

Thanks for that. It's funny with this and the other vids I've done, I tend to make them longer FOR the noobs. Guys who know this stuff I figure take a peek and bail. But for amateur guys like myself who are just kinda finding their way, everything is a bit of a new discovery. And there's nothing worse than watching short vids on a subject you'd like to know more about. Youtube is littered with 2 minute vids that do practically nothing of interest even for a subject you may really want to know about. So these are done in an effort to try and be more complete. But there's something to be said for leaving them wanting more too. By the time I exhaust my effort on the subject, I'll probably strike the right balance. Let's hope it's not too late! LOL!

Wait till I do the night time one- they'll think I'm stalking! I do yap too much I know. I wing this stuff, so with no real script I tend to yap. That was why I put in music- to maybe pull back on the yapping. But I still yapped and apparently the music bed came off as a porno track! LOL- too funny. I have it set on auto focus- high speed. I may back that down a notch to mid speed focus and see if the camera does a better job at find and holding focus overall. Thanks for watching!

That didn't cross my mind!

Amen to that. Remote viewing is a huge feature to many users. Supporting that and making it as robust and flexible as possible should be a top priority with any and every dvr that is still supported. Q-see has been keeping up with updates for the dvr's they carry from what I can tell. The drag is if you want or need to update the firmware, it usually involves backing up your current settings and after the update it defaults out and you have to get your current settings back, blah blah blah- a PIA. For me an update has to absolutely fix a problem that's affecting me in a big way before I venture down the road of firmware updates for anything, least of all my cctv dvr. But that's me and my update luck, which sucks most of the time.

This is confusing. The camera may have been working correctly even if it showed b&w. It won't be a color picture in the dark- it'll turn b&w. In any case, get the camera showing on the tv and then just set the dvr to record what's showing on the tv- the camera. Like you're recording a tv show, only it's the camera. I'd forget trying to hook up the camera directly to the dvr. It's probably not necessary anyway. For lots of choices in your price range, try gadspot .com. Good luck.

Something like this can be found all over ebay cheap and works fine- I like them a lot- Then it's just getting the cable, something like this- You'll need to power something like this with a 12v power adapter. Nothing expensive needed to get audio going. All easy to find.

IE isn't the only game in town either. Chrome/mozzilla are supported with one extention add on- simple. When it comes to q-see specifically in terms of remote viewing, I prefer their 1st generation CMS software for camera veiwing and having the web app open in chrome, simultainiously. Between the two I have immediate access to channel tweaking and searching/playback. Later on for casual searching and playback, I prefer CMS for way more functions than a web app can give.

Perfect camera for recording my mothers car at night.
shockwave199 replied to Rafal123's topic in Security Cameras
And once the leaves are on those tress, that location will be mostly blocked. All things considered, the odds are against you. Which location did she get the car vandalized, do you know? -
You really need two things- the high speed to track the subject you wish to keep in high speed focus- a function of the dome, and high speed focus- a function of the camera. Ideally you want both. So far with mine being a high speed dome/focus camera, it can be put to the test a LOT in a residential setting where in the fov, there may be a wide variety of objects at different depths in the fov. Throw in some wind swishing leaves and branches around and you have a challenge for your cameras focus. Thus far, I can only recommend that if you have a residential install looking at the type of scene I just described, you want nothing LESS than a high speed auto focus camera. Otherwise it'll mostly be out of focus on all but the most calmest, wind free days. And it will struggle to keep up focus for tours with short intervals between presets as well. These are things I didn't even realize were important but I'm glad I don't have a problem with. I don't know which ptz to recommend, but either get the proper one for the task or get a high speed dome that will support different cameras should you want to upgrade. Edit- you want high speed zoom as well, so make that three things to look at- dome speed, focus speed, and zoom speed. All three combine to make manually tracking the subject doable. For speed- just make sure it's all high speed capable.

This is a type of domeless ptz. It's not supposed to have a typical bubble over the lower half. It's a sealed eyeball dome. The disadvantage to this type is that you can always see where it's pointing- during the day. At night when you really can't see it much [for my install], not really a problem. It will hold up fine to the weather- it's rated for it. It's handled rain fine. I also chose my placement to give it a little more protection too, installing it under an eave. But I have no worries about it holding up to the elements. I liked this ptz for a number of reasons, including it being domeless. When the IR's are on, the reflection back is minimal to nonexistant. Not so with typical domes that have IR in them. As it turns out this camera is so good in low light I almost never have the IR's on anyway, but when needed the image remains clear and free of IR reflection.

Perfect camera for recording my mothers car at night.
shockwave199 replied to Rafal123's topic in Security Cameras
^^Cool! HAHA! I'd be concerned about two things. Suction cups usually fail or at least can fail at any given time. Also the power draw during a full night every night- what does that do to the car battery. For typical cameras you'd need three of them- one for each spot you indicate. You'd need a four channel dvr and three varifocal cameras that can really zoom in appropriately to those spots for actual ID purposes. Otherwise for all the expense and effort, all you'd see is someone from a far distance- unusable for ID. Good luck. -
Awesome! Like the pictures those cameras are giving you. Excellent. I'll only warn you- whatever that 'other' hobby is may take a back seat for a while. Seeing your property becomes an irresistable thing to do- and keep doing! Nice job so far!

Washed out night vision on new camera
shockwave199 replied to lindsayspop's topic in Security Cameras
It does look like from that picture you have a nub of the casing wall causing the problem. Try readjusting so that eyeball is seated properly without any part of the casing in front of the IR. If you can't do that and get the angle you want, you'll either need a fixed focus camera with the proper size lens to get the fov you want, or a varifocal that you can dial in the right fov. Your camera may indeed be busted. I would doubt it's because there's too many IR leds. Even if that array had something close enough to bounce it all back at the camera, it would be more likely to just white out completely than to do what yours is doing, ime. -
how can i play & convert a h264 file
shockwave199 replied to rubixs's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Your player probably doesn't support avi playback. I actually find that when it comes to dealing with recorded dvr footage, it's a good idea to have a video editor at your disposal too. I find video editing software really helpful. Look around for a free version. You could for instance open up an avi file and convert that to mp4 or WMV for easier viewing and sharing. Anything having to do with recorded video footage calls for having video editing software as part of your tools, imo. Good luck. -
Need to design home surveillance system after robbery

OMG! I didn't even realize! LOL! Anyway- I agree soundy. In my experience though, hard drives are pretty reliable. My opinion, in general no matter what device you're talking about that needs a hard drive- as long as there's no compatibility issues to consider it's worth shopping around. You can usually find hard drives for big savings from reputable retailers. When it comes to hard drives, I don't pay through the nose out of fear of failure. But that's me. -
Washed out night vision on new camera
shockwave199 replied to lindsayspop's topic in Security Cameras
Is the OP talking about a bubble dome type or an eyeball dome? I haven't have trouble yet with IR bullets or eyeball type domes, but I wouldn't get IR in a bubble type dome because of this ugly problem that I've seen all too many times here. If you must have IR in the camera, bullet or eyeball for best results, imo. -
Need to design home surveillance system after robbery
shockwave199 replied to justchil's topic in System Design
Yes that's what I meant without spelling it out. They don't come with a hard drive unless you either drop in your own, or order it with the hard drive installed, or buy both separately and install the hard drive yourself. The thing to take away from any dvr purchase when it comes to hard drives is look and see how many or the biggest hard drive they take, and whether it comes with one installed or not. The hard drive, no matter how you slice it, is part of the expense. And shop around- you may find places that have a deal going on for hard drives which can save a good chunk of money too. -

For the dvr, consider this one which can be found for around 300- http://q-see.com/products/product_description.php?cId=34&pId=58&id=34&pid=27 People will be quick to say it's garbage, but it's been a year that I've had mine and it's been doing great. I have all eight channels filled with good cameras and now a PTZ as well. With a 500gb hard drive included [confirm if you're purchasing], it's a very nice residential system. Google and Dahua ESDV-ECONO-8. Anything you find there you'll need to drop in a hard drive.
