  1. Hi Tom, When I right click the only audio option i see is "set to wave out." I'm not even sure what that means so if someone could explain it, that would be great. Thanks. What happens when you choose that option? Does another menu come up? That's a routing option for the audio and might help you so try it. What sound card do you have in that pc? You might need to open up the sound card and noodle with the routing options in the mixer section of the sound card. For instance, if you have a stock realteck sound card it has some audio routing options to check out and try- including a 'wave' option which really is just the 'what you hear' sound in the pc. It might be you have that muted in the realtek mixer. It can be found by going into start/control panel/ sounds and audio devices. Or once in the control panel, you might find the realtek icon itself so you can get right into it. But even before you do that, I'd go into the options or settings section for your dvr card and see what audio options you have in there. But routing to wave is probably it. If you choose it and nothing happens, look in the dvr cards audio options if it has any. If not, get into the sound card and make sure the wave volume is all the way up and not muted. Within realtek, there is a mic channel too to check. See if it's muted and check the volume. I'm sure it's probably a routing setting that will get you your audio.

John I'd hold up on that. See this thread about the same camera- viewtopic.php?f=5&t=29922 It seems the camera has problems. Dan

    Bnc/power cable- won't fit camera!

Oh you found my link! LOL! Ok, cool. Thanks again. Dan
  4. This is an odd one, at least to me. So, I got my ptz and the female power end on the camera will only fit the cameras power supply, not the male end of my bnc/power cable. It looks like it should fit. I mean it's gota be a just a hair off somehow, but I tried- no go. The camera is a chinese camera and so is the cheap premade bnc/power cable I'm using. Aside from cheap, chinese into chinese and no fit?! The power supply for the camera does fit the bnc/power cable, however, and of course straight into the camera as well . It's Just the cameras female end itself not fitting my power connection from the cable. DOH! Any ideas? I mean, I could run power right out to the camera, but I was planning on a 25' bnc/pwer cable running into the house and powering it from that.

    Bnc/power cable- won't fit camera!

Thanks Tom. I kinda figured that. I may try it on 50' to see how it does because it will be a whole lot easier than supplying local power, but if I have to I will.

    Bnc/power cable- won't fit camera!

The power supply is- AC adapter Input AC 100-240V~0.65 50-60Hz/ Output DC 12V 0-4A I only have a price/buy link, not a spec link.
  7. What happens if for instance, you bring up an eight channel config with the audio channel/window showing in that config, and you click on it- not double click to expand, but just click on it to make that window the active one? What window configuration will you get audio? I'm just grabbing at straws cause I don't know your gear. If there isn't an option setting it must be a limitation. But I would think if that any window config, as long as the channel with audio is showing and clicked on to be active, audio will come through.

    Bnc/power cable- won't fit camera!

Oh, I gotcha Matt. Last resort I'll do that. I hear you also Tom. Ideally I wanted a 25' cable figuring it would be short enough to avoid starving the camera for power. His shortest cable is 50'. I'll see how it does. It's gonna have to keep the dome/fan/heater/IR's happy. If it doesn't, I'll have to put the power supply right off the camera end in some kind of weather tight box and extend a power source to it. The camera will be under an eave, so at least there's decent cover there. We'll see. Thanks again.
  9. I see no one has replied yet. I don't have your system, but I do have a mic hooked up to mine. The trick is to keep the mic channel the active one no matter what screen config- even if that channel isn't showing, it should still be active from whenever you clicked on it. That's the way it works with my dvr anyway. If you become absolutely stuck, a workaround, albeit a little cost and a pain, is to have mics on every channel running to the same spot so you never lose the audio no matter what channel. Sucks I know, but I have eight channels of audio in and there are times when I wish the spot I have mic'd could be in every channel. I may well just dump more mics in line so I have it on every channel. But that's only eight. Sixteen and up, a real drag. Hope you get it solved.

    Bnc/power cable- won't fit camera!

Yeah well...I'm scared to do that! Lol. I don't mind snipping the cheap cable, but snipping the power wire from the camera scares the crap outa me. Once that's done... I just heard from the seller and apparently his cable fits fine. Wouldn't you know, they sell it in all lengths. Surprise, surprise. Very short bucks, in week problem solved. Could it be their barrels are slightly different then all the rest? Who knows, if it fits it fits. All I know is that as I go on with this freakin camera hobby, I'm amassing LOTS of cable! LOL! I'd sell it but there's always that thought- what if I expand even more. Good grief. Other than that, this camera is really good thus far as I set up the options- a TON of them. Everything you could want. As long as it keeps tickin when I hang it, cool beans.

Yep- barrel ends and this is a smidge off, just like you explained. Never ran into this with ANY barrel ends on anything. Weird. I figured a trip RS would be in order. Thanks for confirming.

    Thanks. I appreciate it. Dan

    Baud rate

If your camera supports 2400, 4800, and 9600 and so does your dvr, is there a 'best' one to use just for performance sake? There gotta be some kind of difference between all of them, no? Thanks.

Your camera placement seems not great overall to me. What I'd consider adjusting- Cam 1- either center the camera to cover the driveway, or move it to the opposite side and shoot from the opposite direction. I'm guessing you park your car regularly on the side closest to your front entrance. You want the camera to be closest to the car. You don't want the car to be in the furthest position of the fov. Aside from your home, your car is the second biggest asset to be broken into, stolen, or vandalized. In most crimes of opportunity, it's actaully the first thing to be messed with. So help your camera help you ID someone at the car- locate the driveway camera where it puts the car up front in the fov, not at the back. Cam2- That camera should be getting the ID shot of someone at the door. If in that fov you can get a side swipe of the doors as well, all the better. Such as this shot I get from my front door- The reason I prefer the side shot is because I get face ID from anyone entering AND exiting, as well as seeing if my front door is open. For you, let camera 3 handle the front gate. Make camera two see your front door entrance only. Cam 3- position is fine so long as you confirm the security light [dim and bright] doesn't cause a bad picture. Security lights can be framed just out of the fov, still throwing light but not looking right at the light. Be it framed above the shot or to the sides, so long as it's just out of frame it can help. Doesn't always have to be a mile out of frame to work ok. Cam 4- Ok, but same thing- make sure lights don't affect the picture. If so, you have room to move that camera around. Cam 5- Tough shot. I'd pick the real target as being the slider. The other door I figure is solid and tougher to bust into. The slider is more vulnerable, therefore make that the money shot even if it means sacrificing a decent shot of the other door. That camera needs to be on the house looking sideways or down on that slider. Avoid cameras looking INTO spaces, where all you'll get is a shot of someones back. Generally, you want them pointing so they'll catch full on face or profile. Cam 6- Again, your placement will only catch someones back. So, facing the slider from the outside, mount the camera on that corner of the HOUSE next to the door. Point it so you get a nice shot of the slider and a long shot of the patio. I'll bet you can frame the shot so the light is above and out of frame, such as this, where the light is up there but just out of frame- Cam 7- Facing the slider from the outside, mount that camera on the HOUSE on the corner next to the slider. That will give you a perfect side shot of the slider and rear entrance 2, all in one shot. Cam 8- I would mount that camera all the way down to the front end of the house pointing towards the backyard, catching the property from front to back direction on that side. It puts it closer to the open fence as well. Food for thought. Good luck to you. Dan

My new PTZ camera bit the dust already..waaaa

Mike, very glad to hear Sean is helping you. The one I got is not cheap...in dollars. Whether that equals quality remains to be seen. The houses here are set fairly far apart. This camera won't look like much from the street. I doubt many will notice it. I hear you about the smoked dome, but IR and domes don't go together well, far as I've ever seen. Everything this camera has, I want. Hopefully it has the first thing I want- to just work. Anyway, I didn't mean to jump your thread Mike. But, it's revelent I think. I'll start a new thread once the thing arrives. Mike, best of luck moving forward with this. Dan

yMQhXc1dHIQ I [we] probably could have saved a bunch of money knowing that. Well, if mine craps out too, I'll know where to look first in the future. Any ETA on those ptz's Sean? This is the one I settled on- 1/4 inch CCD Security CCTV Speed Dome Camera, EFFIO 650TV Line Horizontal Resolution, 0.01Lux Minimum Illumination, 27X Optical Zoom, 3.2 to 86.4mm Lens, 752 x 582 Effective Pixels, 360 Degrees Continuously Pan Angle, 8 Privacy Zones, 220 Preset Positions, With RS-485, Support Pelco-D, Pelco-P, HS, Built in Heater and Fan, 8PCS LEDs, 100M IR Distance, IR CUT, Auto Tracking Function, IP66 There are a TON of these types out there, but this one is better specd than most of them. Will this one be just another piece of crap? Don't say either way, you may jinx it.

In my videos, I say the place where I got my cameras. Very reasonable prices for the higher quality cameras they offer, which I would suggest more so than their cheaper offerings. Good luck.

Sean, good advise. I would also make a request from you my friend. It would be a pleasure and an assest to have a retailer such as you have a wider selection of PTZ's. Maybe they just don't sell enough to carry choices but I'll tell you, a selection of decent cameras at a 300 dollar, 600, and 1,000 dollar price range would be wonderful. I too have recently bought an ebay ptz. It hasn't arrived yet. I can only hope I don't suffer the same fate. I didn't pay for extended coverage because I knew it wasn't applicable for the purchase. But using my paypal account, I DID use a credit card. It's more great protection to have a credit card you've had forever stand behind you if you need to dispute a charge. In the couple of times I've had to do that over the years, they've always sided with ME. But, I'll have to see how my ptz experience goes. This does not give me a warm and comfy feeling at all. Good luck to me. And good luck to you moe. Overall though, ebay has been a positive source for me. It's not ebay, but the people who use it that determines the experience.

I'm not going NEAR the tvl thing. I would just say the in the cheap camera range, 420 tvl usually spells a bad camera overall beyond that, so avoid it. A few will jump in a suggest CNB cameras with monalisa chips. Other than that, what I would look for- -Pick up device- CCD [not cmos] 1/3" Sony super HADII, Sony Effio, Effio-E, or EXview -TDN IR cut -Varifocal 3.5-8mm, or 4-9mm, or 4-12mm [depends on the fov you're covering] -Smart IR, if you are not providing exterior security lights to help any camera without IR -If you have a camera with no IR built in, as most will suggest is best, and almost no other exterior light in a given area, a quality separate IR fixture is wise. I actually like cameras with IR built in, so long as they are not domes with dome covers, and they are TDN IR cut. In the general analog forum in the 'analog video samples' on page 5, I posted a bunch of pictures from my cameras. I also have some vids in my signature. Maybe that will help you some.

That completely sucks. I suppose this claim from them- 'We are an agent authorized from manufacturer. We supply the series PTZ cameras at various prices, cheap and expensive. With rich experience in selling PTZ camera, we will provide you with the most comp- rehensive technical support and excellent after-sale services. Please check our feedback. Don't hesitate. Buy the PTZ camera from us now!' Is completely bogus. Sorry to hear. Very best of luck making the situation right.

It is unlikely you'll get your money back, so I'd just keep pushing for a full replacement. And if you payed with a credit card, which you should have, I'd call and see if you could dispute the charge. Sorry to hear of this. What I don't get is what about this camera failure would cause the dvr to go nuts?

    Legal Issues? Recording neighbor's activity

Visit your local police station. You may be surprised to learn they'd be very interested in you capturing illegal dealings, and interested in viewing that footage too.

I would also consider an aiming adjustment of cam 5 & 6. Have cam 6 cover gate 6 and move cam 5 all the way to the south corner, pointing north for an overall shot of that side.

You'll have to take a look at what your dvr offers with audio. It's a good bet it has at least one channel audio in, and audio out to feed to speakers right there locally. My dvr has eight audio ins- a really nice feature. I have my dvr set to motion recording and every clip I check has the audio on it as well, on playback. I also listen to the live room audio remotely by opening up the channel the mic is in. You mention you have a dog. Hearing that dog barking like mad over possible trouble via remote audio- a very good thing. Having not just video footage of an intruder, but the audio on them as well- very good. Don't ignore the audio side of things. The dvr supports it. Worth it.

He was nice enough to PM me the info a while back- Model JE900BN It's a common ebay one and I'm glad hey_mo gave us a look at what it can do, so thank you for that. It's not bad at all during the day, but at night it's less than I would prefer myself. Hope that helps.
