    Newbie Home System

True, but that very thing could be enough for deterrence too. If the cameras are enough to deter further problems, it's an easy solve. But in my experience, there's really no reasoning with animals- I mean the people, not their dogs. It's usually a game of one-up. If it were me, I'd put up the most obvious bad ass looking system of cameras I could muster- even alarm horns. Maybe even support it with dummy cams to make it appear more robust. But knowing I'm dealing with animal mentality, I'd have covert cameras installed under the deck area that they can't see. Those will likely be the cameras that catch the dogs [the real ones] and the dogs [the people] who might try to vandalize the cameras that they can see. Redundancy. As far as what you use, there's a lot of discussion here about product. Take a night or two with a cup of joe and read up. This will help you zero in a bit. Very best of luck with all the 'dogs'.

Do/Would you display a Video Security sign?

Are you a PGI shooter? I don't run into other pyro's to often. LOL. No. I think the conventions are wild and they look like great fun, but I do not attend. I display professionally for a top company.

    About Sony Effio microcontroller

Well that sucks. I was thinking that might be the case, but it sure would have been a great option. Have you ever used one of those Tom?

    About Sony Effio microcontroller

CRAP! That's awesome! I didn't know that thing existed. I'd buy one, run through the OSD for setup, and then pull it back outa line when it's all set so it's back to one straight homerun line. That'll make OSD life a ton easier. Thanks for that. I thought if the camera didn't have that included on the line, you were out of luck using one.

I have the same thing on one channel along the top, so at least you're not alone!

Shouldn't we post in english for the benefit of all? The op seemed to do just fine with it.

They are an 11+ hour flight- you are not. Yep, awesome show.

Do/Would you display a Video Security sign?

When I shot the Atlantis opening fireworks show, I remember not being impressed on the drive to it after we landed. I was like- the bahamas seems kinda creepy. But then of course you get to the desination and pow- all is beautiful. In general, I'd take the bahamas over hawaii ANY day to visit- a whole lot closer and looks a whole bunch the same. To live, I'd choose neither.

    Swann DVR....need some direction/guidance.

She uses and android phone and uses IP Cam Viewer Lite. Probably not much help. Oh well, at least the guy will be ok with what he has. Take care.

Ok, but when I get a couple apps, have him check them out. Maybe one of them will more more user friendly overall.

I dont claim to be anything I am not. There are far more others that have been through ALOT more than I have. Just telling it like it is, since you asked. Rory- meant as tongue in cheek. I don't mean to make small of your struggles. At the very least, trouble seems to find YOU. Just be careful out there!

    QC444 Admin Password Reset

If it's a new product, send back for a replacement. You shouldn't have to deal with that. Don't know what you mean about local admin rights. Ultimately you want to be the admin of the dvr of course. Not a user, but the admin.

Not saying told ya so- process of elimination, you did excatly right. Sorry it came down to that. I don't remote view on the phone, but my daughter has used at least two different apps when I asked her along the way to see if it works. Neither one being the proprietary software to my q-see system. Let me see if I can hold of her and I'll ask. What type of phone is being used again?

As I suggested earlier, try other apps and see if it behaves better.

Be honest now- with a resume of withstanding that kinda of punishment, you're really... Nah, can't be.

Designing system for my home. ( Looking for help etc... )

You took down junk cameras. Don't slap up junk again because you're in a hurry. If you have to, install intermediate cameras that you may well really like and will hold you over while you put budgets together for expensive cameras. I can say that my gadspots are doing very well and are reasonable. Compare some of their cameras as well, such as GS4006CF GS4011CF GS822EF Lots there to check out, but don't buy the super cheap cameras. It's just something else to consider. I have TONS of pics of my cameras- search the camera forum. Best of luck. Don't confuse yourself. You have the dvr you want now. Just get good door cameras to watch critical areas at the moment first. Save the wide shots for the next round. They're just overviews anyway, and don't really provide critical info.

    Swann DVR....need some direction/guidance.

I think that's normal behavior- only one camera at a time can be viewed. Like I said, you might want to try other 3rd party apps and see if you like one better. My daughter has used at least two other apps other than the proprietary app for my system and they work. But, I don't believe more than one cam at a time can be viewed in any of them. You may want to check that.

    CNB ptz

Thanks to Tom for recommending cnb ptz's. I've narrowed it down to this one to recommend to my employer- http://www.cnbtec.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1398 One question. This spec- Electronic Sensitivity-up (DSS), TDN(ICR), OSD Is that kinda the equivilent of IR? I mean, can that produce a decent image on a pretty dark area while zoomed into it, almost approximating the illumination of IR. Or maybe even better? Why would this camera need TDN- just to be compatable with external IR support? I know these are probably very sensitive cameras and will probably provide excellent low light images. But in some areas we have, it's pretty damn dark and I don't know when or if extra security lighting or even IR would be installed. So that spec, sens up, I'm hopeful helps a great deal to aid a very good picture in very low light outdoors. One of these would cover a well lit parking area, one would have some light but also cover dark areas at farther distances, zoomed in. Thanks for any clarification. Dan

That is awesome guys. Thanks so much for the rec on that- especially you soundy. That's a solid rec on performance. I see they ain't cheap though! You DO get what you pay for!

Oh sorry- I see you mention he has DNS setup. If the phone app works sometimes as you said, maybe it points to a buggy phone app. Have you tried other apps to see if they're any better? Or tried swann support directly?

I would assume max channel correlates to the dvr channels. Input 8 for max channels. You mention the phone app works sometimes, so you seem to have port forwarding setup correctly. I believe you need to setup a dynamic DNS as a last step. The following is an excellent video on it. Watch all his vids surrounding this process if need. Something to check as well in the dvr, if it supports UPNP, universal plug & play, check to see if it's enables or not. If it isn't enabled, it may help. If it is enabled, try disabling it. I found I had to disable it in my q-see dvr as it seem to cause a conflict with my settings- mostly like yours. Good luck. 4o-gwhomEIM

    CNB ptz

Thank you for the pictures. Is that just guts, or do you have the whole assembly? Then you'd know if it's the ones that have the eyeball domeless ptz with IR type. There seems to be a number of them out there. Thanks too for the spectra rec. That's one I didn't know of. I'll add it to the short list. I would think if the installer has any recommendation, it would be a pelco ptz anyway. We'll see. I found this video demo of the thing both interesting and a little amusing. QtpYawPcHZY Now I have to source the best place to buy this one, and the cnb. Thanks again. Dan

    CNB ptz

Good grief, what do I know. I just tried to narrow down good cameras to suggest. The installer will have to work that out. In fact he's doing a camera demo for us next week but I hear he's not a fan of ptz. I just wanted to input a ptz choice. I'm hopeful we get at least one, or two as I suggested. We'll see. I settled in on cnb, but I'm not of the mindset that everything not name brand is rubbish. I have a number of budget cameras giving me excellent results on my home install. So some of those auto tracking ptz's- domless IR type still interest me. But I'd have to conceid taking a shot on them on my own dime in my system, not recommend them to my employer. But if I like one of them in the future and it proves a good camera, then I can recommend one with more confidence.
