Camera Location, Resolution, and Quality
shockwave199 replied to nDAlk90's topic in Security Cameras
I'd like to see what the 480 looks like in that second, lower position just for the hell of it. The lower position obviously gives a better ID shot. But the 700 looks out of focus. -
Who says cctv has to be serious and no fun? This is my first halloween with my system in place and my cameras were a nice addition to the fun! Enjoy this short vid of some scares caught on my cameras. 5SwBF9CLI-8 Dan

CCTV cameras are fun on halloween too!

Never liked the light o' rama style in that vid. I'm old school haunt! All of the good stuff you see there goes out the day of only. It's a huge amount of work getting that all done in just about 6 hours...and then taking a good deal of it down that night. But I love it. For Christmas, I don't do much. Just some lights on the house, nothing big. I prefer halloween- much more theatrical to me. Btw- no, I'm not of the wicker faith. LOL! Just finished the final vid- Vr_oeqSVncI Dan -

Thanks! This is what the place looks like from a good digi camera, not cctv! The ghosts are widely available and are called hovering ghost- a favorite of mine too. -

I think you're being uptight and over the top dude. It's a fun holiday for the kids, where I gave them tons of treats and a few scares. I also mentioned to many of them to look for the YT vid and enjoy it, to which they were thrilled to hear. You're a teenager if I remember correctly- you should dial back the paranoia. You have a LOT of years to get your arse kicked into paranoia. Enjoy life while you're young instead of filling it with cameras at every corner. And from looking at your setup a bit, you have some public surveillance issues. You're doing the very thing you're against. But really, this was just a fun vid and a fun way of enjoying all the hard work setting up a system. Dan -

The popup in the can is an animated prop- one of my favorites. The mic is a cheap cctv mic from ebay- under ten bucks. Believe it or not, the mic is in a second floor back bedroom and it picks up all that from down the hall, down stairs, all the way to the front door and beyond. Truly an amazing mic. -

Hey- thanks for watching and commenting. I didn't move the cameras around a lot. Where they are is where I wanted them from the start. What I did do was upgrade the cameras fairly quickly, which made double work. But live and learn- put the best cameras you can afford at the moment up first. I used the stock 60' lines and got a few 100' lines for longer runs. Here again I should have put up quality cable right off the bat, but the budget was low and I took a shot. So far the stock cables have been fine. I also have all cameras running on their own power adapters as opposed to a four/eight way power supply or cctv power box. That will change soon, to a power box. Next spring I may move the cameras providing the wide shots down to give tighter views. I may also try another camera on the driveway. It's always a work in progress- usually upgrading quality when funds provide. All in all I like the results, it's been very stable, and remote viewing- which for me is paramount- has been excellent. Best of luck getting your system up and running. Dan

Is crime and mayhem THAT out of control there?! The way you describe it, makes me envision people climbing all over the place like a bunch of rats! If the area surrounding my home were that bad that it's littered with morons getting into everything, I'd be beyond cameras and consider moving, not to mention calling the cops every night to break it up so the message gets out- this isn't a good place to hang out. Good luck to you in that area.

Hi and welcome. I have a q-see dvr, the 408. I have some vids in my signature that may be helpful to you. Best of luck setting up your system. Dan

What to look for in a good not too cheap analog camera
shockwave199 replied to tsc757's topic in Security Cameras
Maybe the those pictures were labled wrong, but the way it reads I think his old camera is better than the cnb, and I think both are pretty noisy. -
I have not gotten around to doing this as of yet. My drv has a grounding screw/post on the back, but I haven't hooked it up yet. Kinda forgot all about it. In a back bedroom, I'm not even sure what I'd ground it to. Is grounding a must? I don't really see a problem with the video feeds locally, but I suppose I could hook up a ground and see if anything cleans up even more.

But I don't see evidence of color either. I've seen this cam in your vid and that looked like color, but this shot looks BW.

Need help with a home system after two break-ins
shockwave199 replied to brasskey's topic in Digital Video Recorders
And people are scared of pitbulls! I met a guy at our dog park a while back that had two giant schnauzers... gorgeous animals! These are my guys Not much of a threat, but they might smother you with kisses. As long as they bark up a storm, that's probably enough. In home burglary, I have to believe that quiet is more preferred. -
Need help with a home system after two break-ins
shockwave199 replied to brasskey's topic in Digital Video Recorders
What really gets me is the newbies that ask for help, they get suggestions, but they've long since disappeared. I don't know how many times I find myself simply not bothering to respond to newbies anymore. For my effort, I'd rather not talk to a wall. -
I was just curious why you chose a 5 amp box rather then a 10 amp. Most of the ones I see are 10 amps. Even though it's confirmed to be the camera, maybe an upgrade to a 10 amp box would be a good idea down the line anyway?

Need help with a home system after two break-ins
shockwave199 replied to brasskey's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I recommended earlier in this thread to get a good dog. I know that's not always feasible. But just the other day there was a report on our local news that in a certain upscale area there were multiple breakin targets getting hit, as well as just overall breakins in the area. It was determined that not ONE of the houses broken into had a dog. Neighbors to the right and left- dogs. Thieves avoid dogs. They are a difficult obsticle better skipped. If at all possible, especially considering it was multiple breakins, consider getting a dog. Very best of luck stopping the problem. -
Yeah, for certain instances it's a good thing. But generally speaking, I'm always amazed at how sought after the email feature is, but how cumbersome it actually is. I'll stop short of saying it's a gimmick because for instances like you mention, or especially indoor cams, it could be a very important feature. The most useful thing I would get out of the feature is some indoor cams ready to fire off emails while the house is empty and false triggers are extremely low. Other than that, 100's of false trigger emails will get old very quickly. Hope it works for your situation.

How much voltage can a DC IR camera take??
shockwave199 replied to lupy's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Cheap camera compensating for poor low light performance with a bunch of IR LEDs I don't think it always means suck. Sometimes, but not always. -
I can't imagine the sheer number of emails I'd get doing that. All my cams are outside- even the best of MD setup still detects a bunch. I'd only do that with indoor cams. My dvr has this, but I haven't set it up at all. Good for you though.
-
Well then it's the camera! No sense kicking a dead problem solve. Is it still under warranty?
-
Also try hooking up to a different channel in the power box?
-
Right- what was I thinking! But really, it's the biggest PIA there is I know, but you should really run a temp cable to the camera to rule out a bad line. Could be a problem anywhere along that run. Sucks, but it should be ruled out.
-
Have you tried hooking up another cameras cable to it just to rule out a bad cable? And to a different channel in the dvr to rule out a bad bnc connector?
