Any and all input welcome (analog box cameras).

I have tried searching for info on these 3 cams here on the forum, but I get no hits. Not even my own post. Why not? These 3 are my "baseline", but I am open to all suggestions from experienced people. Sony SSC-FB530 Samsung SCB-2001 CNB BBD-54F Cheers!
  2. Hi guys, it's been a while since my last post... A friend of mine has 4 outdoor cameras (box-type, in enclosures with heater and fan), all Chinese "no name" and of course they are almost dead. Low light (night) images are blurry and not of any real use. He would like 4 new cams, but he is on a thight budget. He will reuse the Fujinon varifocals (bought from the U.S., not China!). He'd like to only change the box cameras, as all wires, power supply (incl. a 12V car battery), DVR, etc. are all installed and working just fine. Specs: Box 12VDC TDN 1/3" CS-mount About 600/700 TVL About USD 100 per cam. I have found 3 different cams, in the range of USD 85-120, and would like your input on them (random order): Sony SSC-FB530 Samsung SCB-2001 CNB BBD-54F I am also open to suggestions.
  3. Hi guys, I am building a 4-camera system for a buddy, on a tight budget... I bought two 4-channel DVR, brand new, off of ebay (one is for another buddy): One AVE MVDR 5000 (USD 51) and one GVI AR-6040 (USD 61), they are so cheap that the lack of factory warrantee is not really an issue. But... Which one is "best"? Pros and cons of both? I have read the specs on both and I have made an opinion about them, but would like to hear yours. Maybe one of you guys have got some hands-on experience with these DVRs? Here are the pdf-files with all the specs: http://americanvideoequipment.com/mvdr5000.pdf http://deals2all.com/downloads/AR-6160/AR-6040_manual.pdf As I am located in PAL and 240V-land, the selection of DVRs are sometimes a little limited by that... Thanks in advance for your attention.
  4. Thank you for your insight, Tom. I am fully aware of the AVE being a "NOS"-unit. I like it for it's compact size and stability ("set and forget"), because I am going to hide it in a cramped space. I beg to differ: It has networking and supports Internet Explorer, according to the user manual.
  5. Nobody in here, who has any experience with or opinions about either of these DVRs?

    DVR and Driveway Alarm

I think that you maybe misunderstood my question a little bit. I was ref. to a different kind of sensor/transmitter. It is a two piece kit, where one is the transmitter and the other one is the receiver, with narrow IR beams between them. When the beams are broken (i.e. someone is walking or driving through the beams), the relay in the receiver is triggered. This can be connected to your DVR, your alarm system, whatever! It can be either N.O. or N.C. If you install it at least 4-5 feet above ground, you should be able to avoid detecting your neighbor's cats, dogs and smallest children. Here is one that operates on batteries: http://www.optexamerica.com/security-products/ax-100tfri The risk of false alarms is too great with a normal PIR-sensor, IMHO.

    DVR and Driveway Alarm

It makes sense and I think that I understand the layout. Do you have access to power at a pole or similar point in the parking lot? Then you can hardwire a transmitter there and hardwire the receiver on the outside wall of the house. I am thinking of one of those 2-4 beam "electronic fence"-kits.

    DVR and Driveway Alarm

Does it have to be wireless or can you go with wired sensors? If the latter, there are some good solutions for your needs. Wireless always relay on batteries that suddenly die (esp. during cold nights).
  9. The subject says it all, more or less... Is it possible to switch a Samsung SCC-B5399N to become a SCC-B5399P? I switched my DVR (Samsung SHR-8080) from NTSC to PAL easily, by just adding a jumper between two pins on the motherboard. I bought my 6 SCC-B5399P cameras here in Europe, but they seem to be discontinued here now, but are still avail. online in the NTSC-version. Thanks. H.
  10. I've set up a 8-cam system at a friend's home, of which 6 cams are up and running. Going to install the last one when the weather permits it and then connect his garage-cam somehow. Right now it just acts as a dummy-cam. A very expensive dummy that is... Problem is: I need to wire the cam (primarily video only, power I can fix locally in the garage) to the DVR in the attic. The routing of a coax is almost impossible and involves heavy drilling equipment through a foundation of concrete and rock (old house that's been rebuilt), then routing the wire visible through two floors is neither a preferred option. The garage has electrical power. My friend insists on the cam there and not using wireless (at least not without good encryption). If the cam was an IP-cam I could've gone the "Home Plug"-route. Any ideas/suggestions? I have searched through the forums here, without striking gold...
  11. Thanks Birdman, I am aware of that option...
  12. then you would have a problem getting it back to analog for your dvr if its not hybrid. your only option may be wireless ... how far is it from house to garage ? Hi! No phone line in the garage, not even in the house (but there is a LAN inside the house), he's using IP-Phone over CCTV. Only power cables going into the garage, through plastic piping, put there before it was built. The garage was built recently, it is connected to the house and the roof of the garage is actually the deck of the house (there is a porch between the house and the garage), therefore there is a membrane (to make it water-proof) outside, which can not be breeched. The DVR is not a hybrid... Wireless is where I want to go too, but my friend is very skeptical towards wireless. The distance from the cam to the DVR is about 50 feet, in a straight line (not cable distance!). What about encrypted wireless transmission at a reasonable price?

    Anyone on here into cars??

Isn't 230 bhp a bad idea in a FWD car?! (I might be biased, I drive BMWs).
  14. If you can add 70-80 more USD, I would recommend this one: Samsung-SCC-B5399HN-CCD-600TV-Lines-WDR-DOME-Heater A much stronger casing, heather and fan, better resolution, better zoom, IP66, more tuneable software, etc. Personally, I would add more light than go for IR. Identifying unfamiliar faces in a green blur isn't really that easy...

Samsung SCC-B5399 switch from NTSC to PAL?

I just found this while google'ing (again): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/120688047153 and the oposite: http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4185096/Main/4184235 Hmmmm....

Samsung SCC-B5399 switch from NTSC to PAL?

I found this gizmo on evilbay: http://cgi.ebay.com/NTSC-PAL-converter-Use-USA-TV-DVD-PS-Cam-EUR-Y34-/250677373738 Any experience with this kind of stuff? I am guessing a lowered signal quality... I am using 12VDC as power source for the cams, so the 60 hz vs. 50 hz shouldn't really be an issue, or what do you guys think?

Samsung SCC-B5399 switch from NTSC to PAL?

You read my mind! I will do that next week, if I can't get hold of the P-ver. in UK this week. Is it possible to get hold of service/repair manuals or parts lists for these cams? Anyone of you pros who can help?

    Greetings from Norway!

Hi! Newbie here in this forum, 40 y.o. Norwegian, living in Bergen (West Coast) doing CCTV and alarm installations as a hobby (for friends, etc.), CCTV just recently. Have been into electronics and electro since I was a kid. Learned the art of soldering and building misc. kits [Welleman, Heatkits, etc.] from my dad. SAMSUNG for CCTV and DSC for alarms are my pref. brands, but I am not religious about it! Although I do stay away from cheap China-stuff!

    Greetings from Norway!

I did not mean offend you or anyone else, but I have seen so many bad video feeds from the cheap cameras, that I choose to stay away from them! You are welcome to prove me wrong, any time! If I can get the quality I want, at a better price, of course I will buy it! I am not stupid, nor religious about it!

Samsung SCC-B5399 switch from NTSC to PAL?

That would work, if it wasn't for the 6 SCC-B5399 PAL domes already installed... I want to add another one to the system. I found two online shops in the UK claiming to have them in stock, so I emailed them. Expecting feedback from them Monday. The SHR-8080 has VGA out, HDMI out, composite video out, 2x spot, 8x loop, etc. It's a lovely piece of machinery! Thanks anyway! All input is appreciated!

Hi guys! Did you get your problem fixed? On my Samsung SHR-8080, I had to add jumper between to pins on the motherboard. Just FYI. Have a nice day!
