We are experiencing major problems at an installed site. Using a GV-800/12 and have swapped out the computer, but our problems still exist. We are now getting cameras that look like the iris's are opening up and closing (the views show flashing bright to normal and are intermitent.) we are also getting waivering borders between some cameras in a variety of grid views. Most discouraging is the computer is crashing and when viewing the log, it seems as though GeoVision is running ok when the system crashes. Does anyone know if an additional video card might help our problem? Help!

Shaky video and and computer crashing...
libertysurveillance replied to libertysurveillance's topic in Geovision
GeoVision version 8.11 the os is windows xp version 2002 sp2 home. E521 w/1GB NVIDIA graphics and AMD Athon 64 X2 dual-core 3600 when it crashes it blue screens. RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL in one instance the crash location was an absurd 0x00005643 It never reboots. It has never crashed without geo card. It was also run at the shop a week before install (with the first computer) and never crashed while the geo-vision software was running (8.01) before upgrade. Yes we are getting Video lost from time to time on 2 cameras. This is legacy from the old system we replaced. We are tracking this down too. BTW this is the 3rd computer installed because the others had the forbidden chip-sets listed on the Geo website. This is not the only install that we are having problems with the GV-800 -
Have an opportunity with a nursery... requires remote camera positions... what are the depth rqrmnts and do I need to use conduit? Do I need to contact gas/electric companies? Special cabling? Thanks for any help.

any opinions on GeoVision vs Aventura?
libertysurveillance posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Curious if anyone has experience using both of these software packages... Any particular reasons why you may favor one over the other? The GUI's seem fairly similar. -
I have a customer that is complaining that when they save video as AVI files, the resulting playback through the latest version of Windows Media Player is upside down... I can't recreate the problem in our shop, does anyone know what is going on?

How can you tell which Dell models use which chip sets? We purchased (4) of the Optiplex models. The one we have running in a hotel with 12 cameras and a GV-800 card, freezes every 3-4 days. We've turned off power save options and the screensaver.... I've read on the forum that the VIA chip set should be avoided. Are we running on the wrong box?

Why are NVR's 2-4x the cost of DVR's?
libertysurveillance posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
With IP cameras doing most of the work, why are NVR's so expensive? I'm figuring that it has everything to do with the newness of the product, but still, how expensive does it need to be? -

I don't see any mention in the device manager... any other ideas, anyone? -
reason I asked is that in this 270x120' building, there are 6 entrances, a freight elevator and I need 4 perimeter cameras... that makes 11 cameras. If I do a hallway, there are 4 long hallways and 4 shorter hallways... now I'm up to 19 cameras... seems to me overkill for facility. Being that the gate entry system tracks who is coming in w/ timestamp, my thinking was we could id everyone going in and out. It has to take a long time to cut through a padlock, and no one would do it when others are around, I didn't think I needed to cover hallways, cause if I cover one hallway, I'd need to cover all hallways... also, don't most facilities put up cameras just to make their renters feel more comfortable? It really can't be easy to cut through a padlock...

We installed a Geo-800/12 card in a hotel. Installed 12 cameras and everything is fine.... We go through the password setup and when we create users, the users can only access 8 cameras. Supervisor sees all 12 and users see only 8. Anybody heard of this?

the customer, nor us, did anything to the Codecs.... this is straight out of the box and is a GV-600 card. The video only appears upside down in his Windows Media player (ver 11) and is displayed properly in the viewlog

what is your method of installing
libertysurveillance replied to jisaac's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I was an electrician before installing CCTV. I've run wires in the worse spots imaginable, basements that are 15" high in the dirt with.. my mortal enemy.. bugs. I've dug ditches 3' deep to run lines for wells. I was basically the ***, my step dad was a master electrician i worked for him. Now running cctv is a lot easier but i do it all myself. 90% of the time i run from source to cameras because we buy reel's and unreel a few at a time, and its usually easier to snake a few wires rather than one at a time. -
NewDay Night cameras look snowy
libertysurveillance replied to Arockerdude's topic in Security Cameras
Arockerdude, usually helps a lot to focus the cameras in low light, just after twilight starts, before it gets reallly dark. If it looks good during that time, it should maintain the look in the daytime, though it doesnt usually work the other way around. -
Proposed 4 Cam Home System - Feedback Requested
libertysurveillance replied to Mr_Funk's topic in System Design
Hope you have lighting, because you're not going to see anything at night if its pitch black with those cameras. Little light though, goes a long way. -
Willie, if you have lights on a sensor outside, then you dont need another sensor. If you're worried about the tree's swaying and setting off the lights, well then thats what the camera is for. If the light goes on, take a glance at your monitor, if no one is there, then so be it. If you havent put the lights in, and you are going to, just get regular flood lamps with motion detectors at homedepot (its usually worth paying the premium for a decent set) and just point the sensor down more, or have it piped away from the house and pointing at your door, that way it will only go off when you leave your door, or someone arrives at your door. Also what you can do is hook up an electrical outlet to the sensor as well, so when the flood lights go on outside, you can have a lamp in your office come on. With the motion detector on the lights, just have any old outdoor camera (low light lipstick your cheapest bet) running 24/7 with a monitor to whereever. If you have cable through the whole house they sell modulators so you can plex it onto your cable on whatever channel and just switch to that channel and you can see it on any tv.

Can wireless go through brick walls?
libertysurveillance replied to jbak's topic in Security Cameras
Well i just need to add my 2 cents.. wireless video seems to have a hard time going through air.. ok im done -
the correct way to disable the cameras, is clicking on "audio/video install" then on the top left you can click activate in 7.x and i forget what it says in 8.0 and uncheck the check boxes. that will display a black screen on 7.x and "geovision" or something on 8.0
-
Yea if you just want the lights to come on, just goto home depot get some flood lights with a sensor, no need to hook em up to the camera. If you dont have a vcr/dvr and all you have is a monitor, it wouldnt matter if the camera is running 24/7 the tv would be dark unless someone walked in front of the light. If you DO have a dvr/vcr that DOESNT have motion detect, then you will need a SECOND motion detector for just the camera. Most dvrs do come with motion detection features built in, though some do not. Any PIR for an alarm would work with almost any dvr that doesnt have motion detection. So do you have a DVR/VCR? If so which one?
-
The only time you would really need a motion sensor is if you have a DVR that needs an external motion device. How are you hooking it up, just to a TV ? does it have a VCR/DVR?

Can somebody show there CCTV setup
libertysurveillance replied to dj29152's topic in General Digital Discussion
When you said that, people thought you bought cameras from radioshack and you mentioned antenna so they thought they were wireless. I think he's using an analogy, he's comparing his geo setup to an old rabbit ears tv setup. Never seen red lines, loops can be a few things, some cameras i've come across dont work well with geo im not sure why, ground bnc maybe? But they loop on the screen, never to bad, but just enough to notice. If you just save a quick video and post it some where, we can take a quick gander.
