I know to get the best quality i need to invest in it, but i also need to find a nice medium of cost Vs quality. The nano is £300 Vs £215 of the SEB3104H. IP cameras and cash logging are not required options. So would the 3104 fit the role for a DVR box here?

The majority of the cameras will be for indoor recording of a shop, open plan with a max of 10m sight needed in low lit areas at night and full light during the day. The main need and issue is the primary camera, a 700TVL IR camera with a 12mm lens, it is looking out to the main gate and a store room at 10-15m in very low light but with security lighting present. We have had some break ins and shop lifting in the past so want to put try and catch them on tape next time. Due to the distances the recording quality is paramount, but FPS not so i feel 25fps may be over kill for this application. At the moment the pico software is working well, but the recording quality is poor on the card and i believe CIF. I can set areas on the screen to trigger the motion detection and start recording, and can also adjust the sensitivity so birds flying through the area do not trigger it. Also when the motion detection is triggered it can save the previous 5sec of footage leading up to the triggering, however this causes intense CPU usage which is not desired on the PC. The ease of access to configure it and viewing of the data is why i like PCI cards compared to a DVR box. But im waiting to hear back from Avermedia on how much CPU power their cards use and how much of the work they do themselves. I dont like the idea of an office PC running at 50% 24/7 when i could get a dedicated (if more expensive) dedicated DVR box.

Which DVR card?
caracortada_uk replied to caracortada_uk's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
That is also on the website im looking at. Yet the item is listed as a 100FPS camera. And in addition there is this: http://www.cameras-cctv.com/fs/doc/product/averdigi-nv-lite-series-edm-jul-081.pdf The avermedia specsheet has it listed as a 100FPS (pal) card. Do the avermedia cards all use the same software? Or like with the DVR boxes do they use different versions (with different capabilities)? -
Indded i do SeanHawg. Thanks for translating from "silly person" into "smart person" for me

So perhaps a SEB3104H? http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/digital-recorder.htm#SEB3104H Im not fussed about all channels being 25fps, i thought 6fps would be very poor but its not bad for what i need. Its more the recording quality i need along with the other options mentioned. When you say the display is basic do you mean the GUI and the actual operation of it? At the moment im using pico 2000, i dont know how the 3004 would compare to it and also the 3104. Sorry for so many questions tomcctv, im an amateur who isnt scared of challenges much to others annoyance hehehe

Thanks SeanHawg. It is an outdoor rated camera and i will now put it outside. I thought it was an "outdoor" camera as in merely weather resistent but it is indeed fully weather proof, but i will still put some silicone on the seals to add protection.

I am planing on getting a Avermedia EB3004NET. It is to monitor 2 cameras at present, one of the cameras being 700TVL and recording from a distance in a low light area, and another 2 being added in the future. I was getting worried about FPS but seeing a movie another used posted on here im pretty sure 7fps at D1 will do me fine -I also need it to be triggered by motion in preset area. With adjustable sensitivity due to a number of birds who fly through the area to prevent false recordings. -A pre-alarm option so that when motion does trigger it it also captures the 5seconds before the trigger. -Remote view - preferably web based Im sure this model will do all of the above, but am i missing anything? Also i have found the FPS comparison videos on here, but does anybody have any comparison videos/pictures of different DVRs quality? At present im using a cheap Pico2000 card from ebay, im pretty sure i will see a quality boost with a proper DVR but i was hoping somebody could show me how good an increase before i buy?

Which DVR card?

Thanks for pointing that out! The supplier i was going to get it from has conflicting information on his website so i have emailed him for confirmation. Ill start a new thread in the relevent forum section about the DVR i am thinking of getting, an Averdigi SEB3104H. Thanks -
Which DVR card?

I have had a look around and found little price difference between the avermedia nv3000L and nv5000L so i think i would go for the 5000L purely for the higher FPS. But i am wondering how much load they put onto the CPU. At the moment my cheap Pico2000 card puts a minimum for 50% onto the CPU, and up to 100% if i had a 5sec pre-alarm recording set. I have phoned the supplier and he confirms it puts some load onto the CPU but could not say how much. Does anybody have any experience of this? The alternative of a dedicated DVR would out at around 50% more expensive and only has a 50fps record compared to 100FPS with the NV5000L. -
Thats what i thought, every day is a school day. I was going more for the security of it being indoors and not being tampered with. But then a ski mask defeats the camera anyway now i think about it. With going for a housing, is there any benefit of getting a heated one? And any tips you could recommend for placement etc? Im thinking of siliconing the seals once installed to help weather proofing. I have also heard of some silicone around the camera joins to again help with moisture problems.

Which DVR card?

The cards are being used in a pre-existing system so costs are kept down hence why i am leaning towards the cards. But a dedicated DVR which is designed to run 24/7 would be more ideal. How easy is it to upgrade the HD that comes with them, just pop opent he case and plug a new one in or are there software blocks in place like? -
Hi all. I have a camera sited indoors aimed out to an external main access gate. It works perfectly during the day when in colour mode, but when it switched to night mode the camera can not see out of the glass. At first i thought it was because of the internal lights, but blocking those did not help. I am now thinking it is the built in IR lights reflecting back on the glass. I think i found an option to turn them off which helps a little, but without the lights it can not see the area. Is there a way to let the IR light pass through (coatings, sprays, changing to perspex glass instead of cheap horticultural glass?). Or would putting it outside in a housing be the best way?

Which DVR card?

Hmmm a very nice curve ball to the idea, thanks tomcctv! But if i did stick to the cards, which make and range is preferred? -
Hi all, a fairly common amateur question im sure. I have set up a basic 2 camera CCTV system in work using a Pico2000 card and a cheap DVR card from eBay. I have it set up nicely and all is fine, apart from just how poor the video quality is! There is what is best described as blurring when people move around, and one of the cameras does not show the detail expected of it (its a 700tvl camera, but im sure the quality issue is the card). So what i need in a card. The ability to record up to 700TVL properly in 4 cameras and expandable to more, motion detection/alarm only recording, remote viewing (preferably web based) and if possible on board video compression rather than using the CPU. The two main makes im finding at Avermedia and GeoVision. How do these makes compare and would the base models/entry level do or would i have to look more at the medium level cards?

Hello all, i am completely new to CCTV equipment so sorry if i am asking any silly questions, the are mainly about cameras hence why it is in this section of the forum. I have found a good if simple DVR kit with 4 cameras which will meet my needs. They are coverage of 2 separate check out areas, 1 open area illuminated by 2 security lights and 1 main gate covered by 1 security light. The package i am going for is: http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/dvr_kit__2420.htm 1) It seems to be a generic DVR but it has all the features i need. Remote access and motion activation being the 2 main. Does anybody recognise it? Is it one to avoid? Also is the internal HDD easy to swap out, just put in a correctly formatted new one? 2) The 2 bullet cameras with it will be used for the open outdoor areas. They say they are weatherproof, but how much? I plan to put them under guttering which provide a good deal of cover, but could they theoretically be mounted outside completely exposed? If a housing was required, is a typical housing a housing? And what is the benefit of a heater? Also they will be mainly needed for night time viewing. Would the built in IR lamps plus the 2 security lights be enough to comfortably cover out to a 20m sight? Is colour still bad for night recording? 3) The dome cameras will be used indoors in a fully lit area at a max of 5m range so no issues there. 4) I also plan to use this camera (http://www.maplin.co.uk/2.4ghz-wireless-10m-nightvision-cctv-camera-with-audio-224374?ordercode=B21LZ#) if i can for the main gate. Again same question of how weather proof it is and how far it could reliably see with its IR with added security lights on the main area of interest at around 20m. Thanks
