I usually go to B&H's website to research and buy stuff.. they have a wide variety and good search to narrow things down.

Designing a home camera system, parts suggestions?

$200 is cheap, I paid like $650 for my Sanyo HD2500p a few years ago.. -
Not enough focus adjustment when lens set to wide angle?
mshaffer posted a topic in Security Cameras
Hi, I have an Everfocus analog camera with a CS mount lens and I want to set it at the widest angle possible. However when I set it to maximum wide angle, I can't adjust the focus far enough to bring it into focus, it reaches the end of the adjustment range. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? -
I'm still a beginner at this, but I just ran a 3000ft run with unshielded UTP for an analog camera and the picture is great. I read somewhere that unshielded is actually preferred for some reason. Do a search of the forums..

I'm setting up a solar powered cctv camera and the camera takes either 12vdc or 24vac. I just tested the voltage coming from the solar charge controller (the load terminal) and it's 15v. I thought it would be maybe 13.5 max. So, I'm not sure what to do. I have a buck converter I can use to lower the voltage, should I do that? I just don't want to hurt the camera since it was kind of expensive.

Picture from this morning.

Ok, I'll look into a regulator. I think the charge controller is putting out 15v because of how cold it is outside now. I'm not sure how low the voltage will be when it warms up outside.
-
I'm also using the load terminals on the solar charge controller so if it's cloudy for too many days, the camera will automatically be disconnected when the battery voltage reaches 11.5v.
-
I wanted to have a heater and IR but they would of used way too much power for the solar panel to handle. Maybe I'll upgrade to more panels eventually.
-
Ok I got it working. I wired in 500ft of cat5e between the solar controller and camera and it brought the voltage down to almost exactly 12v.
-
Whew the camera and amp seem ok.. maybe I just need a resistor to lower the voltage.
-
Great, I wired the camera up to the solar panel using the buck converter I bought on ebay, and the capacitor on the buck converter blew. I had the multimeter on it at the time and the voltage on the output was over 50v. Hope the camera isn't damaged At least it didn't hit my face when it blew up.

I bought a BNC to F-Type adapter and plugged it into the antenna jack on my tv with a coaxial cable. It didn't work. I have a newer flatscreen tv and the picture was just blank. Maybe I'll try my old 13" CRT in the kitchen. Is it possible to view a cctv camera on a normal tv? The camera is going to be out of wifi range so I can't adjust it by logging into the DVR software.

2200ft analog camera run - which balun?
mshaffer posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Can anyone recommend a good brand and type balun for this type of connection? Not sure if active on both ends, etc.. Also do you think a balun will work in -15F cold if it's only rated for 32F? BTW the cable is cat5e UTP direct burial, solid copper. Thanks -
Customer needs camera that is 1/2 mile away from his house
mshaffer replied to blakeaf96's topic in General Digital Discussion
I'm installing a camera at a similar distrance right now, 2300ft. I decided to go with solar for power and send the signal back with cat5e and an amplifier. Hope it works, will be setting it up next week. -
No voltage drop 12v over 1000'?
mshaffer replied to mshaffer's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Is it because there is no amp load from the multimeter? I used the voltage calculator and it shows more of a drop in voltage. -
I want to set up a camera that will record whenever a car enters the driveway. We have a lot of things that set off the motion detection, deer, birds, etc.. Is there any kind of magnetic sensor I can put in the driveway so it will only trip the alarm/record when and actualy vehicle enters? I looked on B&H and googled some and didn't see anything.

Would people pay to view a HD PTZ camera of a city?
mshaffer replied to mshaffer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The thing is Washington DC has a height limit of 10 floors so this is basically the only place you can get a good view of the whole city. I posted a video last night of a NASA launch and it has over 10,000 views now. -

I have a really good view of Washington DC from my balcony, do you think if I had a really high quality PTZ camera people would pay like a really small fee to view from it? Like $1 for a day to view etc.. -

Right now I have 25Mbps down and 5Mbps up. They have a plan which is 105/20. -

I just took a video of the extent of the view, do you think there's enough there to look at? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIxNWCnEdeE -

Oh yea, I have a fixed IP camera right now and it's getting about 20-30 hits per day. http://www.webcams.travel/webcam/1373846723-Weather-Washington-DC-and-National-Airport-Cathedral-Heights -
Cameras comparable to Sanyo VCC-HD2500?
mshaffer posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I bought my Sanyo VCC-HD2500 a few years ago and I'm just now starting to figure it out. I guess they're not made anymore, what brand/model cameras are there that are similar if I wanted to get another one? For example, CS-mount, day/night, 1080p, etc.
