What type of sensor is it? Is it a Day/Night camera?
-
Anybody know how much these are selling for? I can't find anything on the Web, not even a recommended MSRP. Don't violate your confidential price list to me, but if you can at least tell me typical resale price, that'd be great. Thanks.

Hey, I told him about this site, can't hold a gun to his head, but I'll remind him about it. I'll PM you for the details on the other stuff. -

Rory, Wide angle lens? That's where we tend to get the phenomenon you describe. Luckily, when you see our new 540 TVL cameras, this issue should go away. Thanks for the feedback. I'm running into the issue I described above more with my dome cameras than the brick cameras, so I'm trying to work a solution that deals with board cameras. But thanks for the input. I'm very interested in the EI setting, I need to talk to one of my applications engineers about that. -

This brings up a related issue. I was going to bring it up in a different thread, but this one seems appropriate. I'm running into an issue where one of our EX-View cameras occassionally gets the complaint that images are washed out in direct sunlight. Our engineering team has examined it and we believe that in very bright sunlight, some of the IR is leaking in passed the filter and washing out the color. On our true day/night cameras, the cut filter is much thicker so the problem doesn't manifest. Have any of you run into this in the field and if so, what do you do about it. We're examining lenses that have better-than-average IR filtering, an add-on filter, etc. But you folks are the ones in the field and have a lot more experience out there, so I wanted to pick your brain before I proceeded. Thanks, -
Yes but that's cheating

Thanks Graham, you pwnz.

If you're comparing it to our SV-XP1, which wasn't the intent of this thread, you're right. I don't consider it sand kicking at all, they're two TOTALLY different solutions. While they're both IP cameras, one is based on a standard 480k pixel sensor, the other is based on a 1.3 megapixel or higher sensor. I wasn't looking for comparisons to what GE currently makes. We are looking into the Megapixel market which is what my request was for. Whatever it is we end up releasing, it'll pwnzr the IQ Invision camera. If you don't know what "pwnzr" means, ask your kid, they can tell you

Tony, I think the first priority is making the unit Remote Operable. One of our concerns with adding channels to the Digia is that's not what the product was designed for. Specifically, it was designed for "Mom and Pop" shops, not more commercial-size installations. That's what our StoreSafe and DVMRe lines are for and we want minimal crossover between two lines so we don't cannabalize one for the other. That being said, I know the Product Manager for Digia is looking at a 9 or possibly 16 channel unit, but I can't speak to the status of product development for that yet. Sorry to discuss DVRs on a camera forum, but hey, you're the customer and if that's the info you want, that's the info you get Best, GECAMGUY

Heh, best not to get me started on the website. Internally it's the bane of our entire product management group and would make a GREAT Dilbert cartoon series. In short, somebody in corporate had this "Great" idea to rebuild our product database in a way we such that we could have "on the fly" webpages based on a single product database, that would also be used for product catalogs, spec sheets, etc. This spurned a year-long "taxonomy" project where all the PMs spent weeks and weeks defining every field and value for every product we make. Unfortunately, the contracted firm didn't understand a single thing about the Security Industry and screwed up much of the database transfer process, then we switched contractors and we are where we are today. From what I understand there's a new sheriff in town now and they're trying to get it all cleaned up.

Rory, thanks for that link. I love having "CCTV Cameras 101" info so I can help educate people about cameras and how they work. This is a great tool. If you have others, share them please

Wow that's pretty cool but I didn't see a price. I'm willing to bet the lens I was referring to gets better zoom than the Extreme unit, but dang, that IS nice.
-
I got to play with a 300X zoom lens a couple months ago. With it you can discern facial features or people on a boat that's 3-4 miles off shore. Incredible. of course, at $400,000 per lens, it's not something I'm going to run over to Sammy's cameras and buy

GE's KTC-540E also uses the EX-View chip.

Most CCTV cameras out there nowadays have power brought to the camera in one of three fashions. Screw Terminals Mapped CAT-5 connectors Spring Terminals Of these, which do you favor? You can respond in replies, or I've set up an easy poll for you to choose from one of these 3. Thanks,

Camera Power Terminals - Feedback requested
GECAMGUY replied to GECAMGUY's topic in Security Cameras
Yeah I don't like the push ones that Bosch uses either, but I like the simplicity idea. Barrell connectors did cross my mind but I know what a pain those are too. What I was really thinking about where spring terminals like you see on Stereo Speakers. No tools required, pretty easy to use. I'm a bit concerned about longevity of connection, so I'm looking at a locking mechanism for that style. On the other hand, if you all are fine with screw terminals, I ain't gonna fix what ain't broken.
