  1. I've got 2 Dahuas that will only take one snapshot and then stop. Camera 1 Software Version2.420.0007.0.R, build : 2015-04-09 WEB Version3.2.1.263030 ONVIF Version2.4.1 Camera 2 Device TypeIPC-HFW4300S Software Version2.420.0006.0.R, build : 2015-03-11 WEB Version3.2.1.256412 ONVIF Version2.4.1 Unless there is a different URL for getting snapshots off these cameras.
  2. I've been looking at the NVR4208-8P. I've googled around a bit, and had not found an answer to my question. Is it possible to back up / copy the video files off of the NVR onto a computer on the network? Are the files still .dav files like on PSS, or can you change them to another video type? Thanks.

    Feeler: VCM-24VF

Seeing what kind of interest there is for one of these. I still have the original box, I *should* still have the manual that came with it. I also still have the "dongle" that plugs inside the camera that allows you to change settings, focus, etc. I can also throw in a IR Illuminator if interested. $100 Shipped (US) / Best offers considered Some youtube vids of it in action: Hurricane Irene: Day / Night Changeover: Video Captured Today:

Reliability of HDD vs Solid State

The video is written to another drive(s). I'm referring to the drive for the OS. Best, Christopher That's what I get for thinking you were talking about the data drive. Apologies.

Reliability of HDD vs Solid State

I always hear that SSDs have a limited write capacity. With the amount of writing a DVR/NVR system will be doing, I'd lean towards the traditional hard drive. If write speed is a factor, consider a RAID 5 or 6 system, which will provide a higher write speed as well as redundency.

    Streaming audio ideas

A little overboard, but Winamp / Shoutcast server?
  7. How much would you be willing to spend
  8. I also built my own out of a busted halogen work light. I used 96 LEDs w/ 33 ohm resistors. I went to the low end of the forward voltage, so they would last. It is no where near as bright as what you had. I have 200 loose LEDs waiting for when I have the patience to build another one. This time stepping up the voltage a tenth or 2.

    VCM-24VF Excessive noise

2 X 100 Watts I think? Here is the changeover from day to night: Changeover from IR to Floodlighting: IR to No IR: (yeah there's some noise there)

    Anyone on here into cars??

Nah, my Altima has close to 270-280, and it came from the factory that way.

    VCM-24VF Excessive noise

I don't have any low light color images of my VCM-24VF, I have these that are at night, one with flood lighting, and the other with IR lighting. Mine seems to do ok in low light color scenarios. Edit: Oh, and default factory settings as well.

    3G wireless router

What kind of interface? I've used a Kyocera that had a PCMCIA slot that you put the aircard in. I think they came out with a new model that was compatible with USB and Express Card type air cards. It didn't have a whole lot of range, but then again it was designed for mobile applications. If you could use the Kyocera, and have a PCMCIA type air card - PM me. I might even still have the air card - usable on the Sprint network.

    DVR Recommendations Needed

Also I had to reupload a couple hurricane videos as the previous encoding I did with AviDemux along with Youtube's conversion to FLV caused the final frame rate of the video to drop drastically. I only did that with a couple of the last ones I uploaded as I noticed it with them, especially the color video and I didnt edit all with AviDemux. So not sure if the rest are all exactly 7fps or not, hard to tell, they may actually have ended up being a little less. But I think its close enough. 30fps D1 is nice, but comes with a price most applications dont need. I even have a couple cameras set to 7fps CIF, such as a front door, and a small gate area which is only used to watch dogs eat. I think the one I saw that sold me was one that was titled something like "______ switching to Infrared". I guess it was you in there towards the end. I was trying to see if there was any blurryness, but the picture was pretty crisp considering. Only with the quick moving stuff in one of the hurricane vids did it seem pretty choppy.
  14. So, I have about had it with software solutions, having compiled a particularly popular Linux software from source numerous times, it just never seems to be just the way it needs to be. I was almost getting ready to pull the trigger on getting an 8 port capture card, but may spend the money on a good DVR instead. What I would prefer the unit to have: 4-8 Ports HDMI Out - 720P or better, as well as VGA Capable of 30fps per channel @ D1 / assign different frame rates to different inputs. No ActiveX needed to control remotely PTZ controllable via remote interface Option to not get a hard drive, as I have plenty lying around. FTP or maybe even a NFS (is that available on any?) option Thanks for any info you can provide.

check out the CCTV videos on my hurricane thread, all 7fps. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26844&p=164275#p164275 also this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S-e12FmVAk Sitting here at work watching them on my phone, looks good enough to me on the small screen. I think I'm sold. I'm looking at the Qvis Apollo HD 8 or 16. Thanks!

I think I've chose what I'm going to get. I guess what I'm looking for is to see if anyone has a video @ 7FPS. The particular unit I'm looking at produces that frame rate, and I want to see if that will work for me. Thanks.

    Hurricane

It got us - Virginia. Loads of rain, and high winds. Power stayed on pretty much the whole time. Only after it was finished did the power go out. Internet/Cable/Phone still out. I put a few videos on the big video site, search my user name here.

    Best routers

I'll tell ya what I did. I got annoyed at the consumer grade routers, and that they did not have a lot of features. I tried DD-WRT and even that was not (powerful) enough to do what I wanted it to do. I had a Mini ITX computer that I had built to keep in the truck way back when I was a truck driver. I performed a fresh install of Ubuntu Server on it, complete with all of the programs needed to make a router out of it. There is a guide floating around somewhere that I followed to do this. I installed webmin on it, that way I can open, close, and forward ports with ease. Pretty much no limit for forwarding, etc. I also use it as my webserver with a few domains hosted on it. I added Wifi by taking the DHCP duties done by the previous router and just made it an access point. If you aren't that Linux knowledgeable, this isn't a route to consider, but hopefully it will help someone. Some may consider it a bit expensive but for a rock solid router (my uptime as of now is up 129 days, 15:00 hours) it's hard to beat.

Now I don't feel so bad about the 5.9 earthquake that knocked me out of bed yesterday afternoon. Good luck to ya.

    Low light camera's

Edit: Apologies, ment to send as PM.
  22. Back in the day we had this thing on the back of the TV. You would slide it one direction to play Atari or watch something from the VCR, or watch TV from the antenna. Someone with proper electronics knowledge could probably build a "solid state" version of that.
  23. Could probably have it power a relay, when it has power, one camera works, when not powered, the other camera works.

I don't know if it's coincedence or not, but we had an earthquake today, and the motion detection on the software solution has not worked ever since. Too bad it didn't catch the actual earthquake.
