Looking for something a little more professional/commercial quality. This will reside in a harsh environment. Still shots, not video.

Client wants to monitor several equipment rooms. Very difficult to get CCTV to these locations. I suggested something along the lines of a "game cam" (the cams hunters use to see how many deer are transiting a specific location...they record snap-shots onto an SD card). I don't want to stick a game cam on the wall, and am curious if there is a similar camera available in the CCTV world. Ideally camera is motion-activated with built-in IR's and SD card storage.

Yeah...those look like game cams where they painted over the camo! I guess what I'm looking for is something similar, but packaged in a traditional CCTV type housing (e.g. dome).

Setting up an IP camera in a location with no ethernet...
videoVIP replied to kathiny's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
A Linksys WRT54G-3G-AT router with a data card installed will give you internet wherever there is a cellphone signal. I used these mounted in a weatherproof box on light poles, then plugged in Axis IP cams. Power was provided by a single solar panel and a huge deep-cycle AGM battery. Worked great. -
You will need a digital-to-analog converter.

Interested in knowing which models you have. I have some 213's and would be thrilled to get them to record directly to a NAS.

Does anyone have a copy of the Honeywell HRM7ADMIN/HRM7VIEW CD? Client gave me an old "RapidView" DVR, but no software...

Client has a HUGE home. They've tried every type of video baby monitor, even one that I recommended. Nothing seems to work. For whatever reason, they've decided to put the kid in a room at the complete opposite end of the home (you need a road map to get there), and wish to monitor him (video/audio) from the master bedroom. They do not want to use a PC or Ipad/Iphone, nor do they need to record. They only want a "live" 24/7 feed. Home has been professionally pre-wired with CAT5 and RG6 in every room. There is a spare RG6 in each room, which meet at a patch panel in the garage. My idea is to use a video modulator which would send the signal down the RG6 to a portable 10" TV in the master bedroom. However, I'm not sure if they make modulators which transmit audio. Ideally, the same modulator, when coupled with a signal injector, can also send the feed to any TV in the home. I've done this before, but not with video AND audio. Does anyone have another/better idea? Edit: Just did some reading on the modulators I've used before...apparently they combine the audio & video into a TV signal: http://www.netmedia.com/vs2005/man-mm70s.pdf

It might be easier to copy or "burn" the clip to a USB thumb-drive directly from the unit. Typically, Digimerge DVR's will add a copy of the required player to the thumb-drive along with the video. Then, just hand the thumb-drive over to the po-po. Saves a lot of frustration! Edit: It looks like the DHU500 will convert files to .avi for you during the burning process (see page 42): http://www.digimerge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/DHU500_Series_MANUAL_EN.pdf

Nope. Around here you get what you pay for!

Anyone know of a single-channel DVR? Looking for something with a hard-drive (not an NVR) and fanless if possible.
-
Well...I think he's going to turn 90 on his own pretty soon...just hope he lives long enough to pay the bill.
-
Yes, he'll thank you for it. It would be the sane as handing my cat a can of food and a can opener. Maybe I should enroll the client in computer classes too?
-
I was very specific in my request and know what I need for my client's situation. No need to re-invent the wheel at this time.
-
Why didn't I state that in the first place? I said single channel DVR with hard-drive that isn't an NVR, no? Pop the SD card into a PC? Client doesn't't own a PC. Should I sell him one?
-
Can you plug a monitor directly in to an IP cam or NAS? No. Can you review, rewind, copy files from an IP cam or SD card without a PC? No. I need a self contained unit with one channel that the client can operate without a PC.
-
Yeah, I know. 1 & 9 channels are rare birds these days.
-
No. Need a single-channel DVR.

If I collect any more "trade-in" DVR's from my clients, the TV show "Hoarders" is going to show up. I figured I would sell these to clients on a budget, but that isn't happening. When I mention "no smartphone viewing", nobody wants them. These are/were high-quality DVR's at one time and in good working condition (I've even replaced a few hard-drives and upgraded firmware), but I can't give them away with a $100 bill taped to them. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Yellow = Video Red = Power (typically +12vdc) Black = Ground (-12vdc, occasionally doubling as video ground).

AVIGILON 5MP HD D/N IP DOME CAMERA Mfg. Part: 5.OMP-HD-DOME-DN $903.99 ea. CONFIGURABLE 2U NVR with Exacq VMS $1,866.00 ea. Cameras would be $3615.96 Plus server is $5481.96 Not sure about lenses & licensing. So we're left with $2518.04 from our original $8k quote. Two guys, two days installation, programming, client training @ $95/hr. = $1520.00 So now we're at $998.04 "profit". Still have to mark-up equipment, purchase supplies/cable, lock-box, power supply, pay sales tax, permit fees, warranty, etc. etc. Here's your cruise...

So enlighten us...what is your definition of "really nice IP megapixel cameras"?
-
I don't do residential. My point is...the OP can keep banging his head against the wall trying to get top-notch video from his umm...err..."affordable" system, or he can return it, spend a few more $$$ and get better video. Nonetheless, as I've said about 100 times already in this post, for the money spent, he's got pretty decent video.

Yep. High-end IP stuff is cheap...http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/734349-REG/Axis_Communications_0362_004_AXIS_Q6034_E_PTZ_Dome.html
