When I hook my DVR up to my HDTV with the HDMI cable, the message that pops up on my TV is "Format not supported." Now beyond the obvious............why is my format not supported? Is there something I can do? Is my question to broad, lol?

Anyone have any tips or tricks for mounting cameras on a house that is all dry wall inside and out? And I'm sure someone will pop up saying that the outside is not dry wall and in fact some other random material, but regardless, it looks like dry wall with it's white chalkiness too it's construction. Any tips or tricks for dealing with that sort of material? If someone has put screws straight into it and it has held, then I'll try it. I'll even try those plastic things for dry wall I use on the inside of my house for pictures. But I want something that has worked for others before I random try something that pops in my head.

It's a 5 pound camera, I'm not too worried. The idea behind the mount seems solid. Only time will tell.

E-Z Ancor 2-Pack Toggle-Lock Self-Drilling Drywall Anchors I used this. Self drilling portion sucked, had to pre drill almost the same sized hole because I kept stripping the self drilling part. Works so far. And as far as taking it out. I'll just put some putty over it and spray paint over it when that time comes. Thans.

I found a specialty store in town that carries quality RG59 cable. It is 4 times as thick, very durable. But I don't know how to link two cameras to one cable. Can anyone link to a nice how to guide? Or give tips on what they did? Or even if it is a good idea?

People might not like this, but here goes...... Don't listen to anyone here. Lawyers are all to happy to sit down with you. If you open your phone book and find all the lawyers in your town, at least half of them will sit down for half an hour with you and do a free consultation. Those guys will know all the laws and the cases involving such matters, how they went down and how to win. Good place for free tips. You might have to pretend that you might use them at a later date, but it's not that bad of a fib as far as fibs go. Just don't fork any money over. Some of the lawyers in my town charge $150 for a consultation, but I just kept calling and found out that over half will sit down with you for free to see if they can even do something. If they say they charge for a small 30 min conversation, just hang up and call the next person on the list. Wish you luck.

It's RG59 with solid copper core, I'll check the other two things you speak of. So I currently have VideoSecu with power supply connectors already attached. I saw online RG59 with 2 copper wires for power supply, but no connectors already attached.........Is it difficult to do the attachments myself? Like this? And are you saying I should just run two of these along side each other rather than have one cord for all? Rg59 Solid Copper Core Braiding Copper Shield 95% coverage? What is 95% coverage?

I currently have an Aposonic 1/3" lens Super HAD CCD, water proof(resistant I know), it has night vision and is great for my walk way. It makes out the faces just fine, range of about 12 feet if you actually want facial identification. I don't need a zoom or anything. I just want it to be able to make out a license plate at 50-60 feet. I want something fairly better than what I got. From what I understand what I need is a 1/2" lens Super HAD CCD, water proof(resistant I know). But I am searching all over the net and can't even find a 1/2". Can someone show me some options please. Looking to stay under $200ish for just the camera. The one I got cost $80, lol. Based on my rate of recording, on my HDD of one terabyte, I do 17gb per day. Roughly 57ish days. So I have the room to run two cameras on it, and my DVR allows up to 4 cameras.

it all depends who you call. it has nothing to do with a scam. or anything to do with high price. out of the two that is what i would use for your licence plates Then how do I get a price quote? What did you pay for yours?

I could not find a price for these anywhere. Everyone wanted me to fill out some information to get the price. That is the first sign of a scam in most places. Or that the price is so high that the only people who can afford them are people with so much money that it's offensive to even tell them the price, because of course they can afford it, they can afford anything.

Thank you for the suggestion. Does anyone have a picture of this camera in action? And dare I ask, since I have some room to spend more, is there an even nicer option out there? And I have spot lights shining down at my vehicles so light won't be an issue. If the night vision is as good or better than my current camera, the little boost provided by my outdoor light should be fine.

I believe my camera was $80. With that said, the difference between my BNC--->RCA connector and my HDMI cable is ridiculous. So much nicer. There is not a person yet who I have asked who didn't notice a big difference. HDMI all the way. But I have not tried the VGA.

In my DVR there is this Pan/Tilt/Zoom option, and in it I see a button for flip, but it doesn't do anything when I press it. Now I did have to choose a protocol before I did this, but I don't know if I chose the right protocol, or how to tell which is the right one.

Do you know of any way for me to flip the image? Special cable or connector?

Yes, everything is up and running. The HDMI made things way better than that BNC to RCA. Glad I purchased it. All that is left is to mount this sucker. It is supposed to be waterproof, and all. Doubtful, but I don't think I will have issues mounting it outside underneath the overhang of my roof so it has a little protection from the snow and rain.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted everyone to know that I was on a couple other forums and they were no help. No one responded, no one seemed to care. It seemed as though I had to be in some inner circle that was not talked about in order to get a response from people, and everyone here has been tremendously more helpful than anywhere else I have been.

Thanks for the help everyone. Is there a way I can hook this up to my laptop monitor? I have the HDMI connection and the monitor is 1900-1200, but when I hook them up I see no image. I just don't know how to get the image to come up on my laptop. Can you offer any advice?

From what I read online, RG59 cables are best used for video only, but RG6 can be used as well. At Home depot they sell only RG6 cables and have both RG6 connectors and RG59 connectors. The specialist at the store said that there is no difference and that the only difference in cable is the connectors used. So does anyone know? Can I just purchase the RG6 cables and the RG59 connectors?

On amazon I saw some surveillance cables, but I wasn't for sure what kind I should get. Does anyone know how I would go about finding out? I tried reading the manual, but that thing is complicated. I have a Color 1/3" Sony Super HAD CCD camera, with a 1U Series DVR. Wasn't for sure if there was a big difference in cables or not.

Ahh yes, they lined up better than I thought they would. It looks huge in my DVR, but it fits just right.

After looking at this HDD in person, looks huge, maybe too big/incompatible to my DVR. This project has cost more than I ever thought it would, even after buying cheap stuff. So I do have to slowly piece things together. What I am asking you is whether or not I just bought the wrong HDD? I see that my SATA cable plugs into it just fine, but I am curious about those other pluggins. Is there other cables that need to go into them? Will the HDD be powered all by itself through that one pluggin? I don't know if people who read my posts think I am a complete idiot, but I do appreciate any help you can give. Pics below............

I recently purchased a 1U Series DVR, the recommended HDD is a Sata 7200, but it doesn't specify 3.5in 2.5in etc........ Is this common for DVR to not mention? The slot is so open it seems to indicate I can put anything there. Does that look like it is the case? Here are some pictures. Anyone have a favorite HDD they like to use, one that is known for lasting?
