    Thanks

I registered and introduced myself back in September. I recently saved enough to purchase my system. It was recommended to another newbie and I liked it. The poster also has several videos regarding installations and such. DVR http://www.amazon.com/Q-See-Channel-Compatibility-Recording-QT454-5/dp/B006QB1RVI/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1337387299&sr=8-12 CAMERAS (4)- http://www.gadspot.com/p-357-gs5004.aspx WIRING http://www.gadspot.com/p-38-bncpower-cut.aspx My total cost including delivery- $ 636.86 This is below my allowed budget for a system ( $1,000 ). Originally I was pricing 8 channel systems because it appeared that six to eight cameras would be required to cover my home. After considering trying to do it with four cameras, I was able to figure out a great way to cover everything. Back in September I was very concerned about thieves just grabbing the DVR as they exited. Some suggested a strong box. I plan to hide mine under the computer desk- mounted up under. A few brackets screwed to the bottom side and done. There are already tons of wires going this way and that, very confusing to know what does what. This way the DVR will be next to my computer for the internet connection, and the thieves would grab the computer and never think about looking under the dumb desk. Another concern was whether to mount the cameras in a stealthy manner or bold and in your face from the street. I read several good opinions regarding both styles. I believe that stealth is best. They would approach without masks and I could capture their faces before they realized that cameras are deployed. Some people may not ever notice them. These DVRs that send out emails to your smart phones are great. I will be able to dial 911 in real time, and offer a description of the thieves and their car. Very hard for an alarm company to match that. Wish me luck. ......I can't wait to see what things go on when I am not home. LOL

Where to hide the DVR ????

I have just started my research into obtaining my first system. Newbie here, and my budget is less than $ 1,000. Mostly afraid that a thief will visit me during the day whilst at work. For unwanted visitors entering at night.....I have a wonderful program already in place that will deal with that. My house has a few neighbors that can see it, but for the most part it is secluded. There are 4x4 trails through the woods that could be used to access the back of the house without anyone seeing anything. The house is 60 feet long and has covered porches with hand rails that run the entire length both in the front and in the back. Staircases at each end of each porch. The sides of the house have windows too tall to climb thru. Four cameras will probably cover all my needs, and I hope they never get needed. But a camera pointed at each staircase would capture the image of my visitor before he realized that a camera even existed. Not planning on hiding the cameras, because I want them to be seen, just not seen from a distance where they would know to prepare by shielding their faces. Catch them ala naturale. The local sheriff will probably know them by name. There is a lot to digest here on this site- thanks. But there was one issue I didn't find addressed. If they see the cameras.....and realize they are being recorded......wouldn't they at that point break in anyways, just so that they could secure the dvr, and thus abscond with all my evidence ? Where does one hide such a thing ? How are you supposed to hook it to the computer if it is hidden ? ....and if you would like to recommend a system to me, please do so. After all, I am brand new and all ears at this point.

Please allow me to introduce myself

Yes....I am an undertaker, and yes I love to surf fish. Live in the Heart of Florida. Enjoy hunting and snorkeling and privacy. Interested in mounting cameras to twart theives and derelicts. I own expensive fishing gear and wouldn't want it stolen, and I also built my own hot tub and don't want trespassers swimming in it. I appreciate the fact that this forum exists- thank you. I interact on several fishing forums and a few dedicated to hunting and shooting, a scientific forum, and a few involving other things, so I realize the value of such things. Looking forward to receiving your best advice. Paul
