  1. Hi. I am going to install a basic camera system for my uncle. He owns a restaurant and just wants some added protection. My problem is that the Q-See system I have only came with 60' of wiring. I am going to need 100-120' with all of the burying and twists and turns I am going to encounter with 2 of the camera runs. I have a few questions. 1. What is the best way to weatherproof joints on cables; ie: exentions, couplers. I am especially talking about cable that will be buried or out in the rain. 2. What is the power wire called if I wanted to buy some and where would I find the power jack to go into my camera? 3. Would you recommend just getting ethernet and running both power and video with some baluns with this solution? (This might be easier since I am going through an exterior wall and the connectors are obviously kind of big) 4. Would it be plausible to extend the 60' of wiring I have? The Q-See wires combine the power and coax in one wire and branches off on either end. 5. Will 12V even power the cameras properly at a distance of 100-120'? Would I need any special power supply? Thanks for any help or insights!
  2. Thanks. I will use some thicker wire. What is the best and safest way to test which side is positive and negative when cutting and splicing power wire?
  3. I have a 2 Q-See cameras that are 12V 500MA that I want to power over about 120-150FT. I am going to order 2 of these from Amazon: [edit by mod-store link removed] Will this supply be sufficient for the run or will I need a higher amperage? How can I know for sure? I don't have any professional all in one tester tool but I have a multimeter which should be sufficient. I know I could test it this way but I still would like a sure way to know by calculating it. Thanks.
  4. I work at RadioShack and I can pick up some transformers pretty cheap. Do you think these would be as good as any? I could put the two indoors on a 1amp 12V from RadioShack and use the one that came with the set of 4 for the two outdoor (over 150 ft each). That way I wouldn't have to worry about amperage since the thing will put out 2A. I believe the wire size is 22 gauge. It's very small, but stranded. Also, I cut 2 of the pigtails off of the splitter to use on my custom wire outside (cameras have a female DC jack coming out of them). Do I need to somehow close up where I cut off?
