Camera system for HOV (car pool lanes) monitoring?
mark_kinesense posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Hello all, I'm looking for companies that supply camera systems specifically for High Occupancy Vehicle lane monitoring. I need something that can basically count the number of people in the car. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? My google searches aren't finding it. -
Camera system for HOV (car pool lanes) monitoring?

The laser, like the Kinnect, would be non visible. Would it work, in theory? You could perhaps model an empty seat as a concave surface. If the seat scan is convex then someone (or something) is there. -

Hmmm... How about using a grid of laser dots similar to how the Microsoft Kinects depth sensor works? -

I totally agree, and I would be skeptical of any commercial offering of such tech... however, I have been given the task of finding if such product offerings exist on the market or not. -

Thanks a lot for that reply. I am particularly interested in systems which automatically detect single person occupancy for vehicles. -
Online Video & CCTV File type identity tool
mark_kinesense posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I hope I'll be forgiven for a small bit of promotion here, but I think this link will be useful for people here. There are hundreds (possibly thousands) of different video file formats in the CCTV industry. Just figuring out which player to use can be a real pain. I’ve worked in CCTV forensics for a number of years and have built up a huge database of file formats, manufacturers and software players. I decided to put it online (and free) for anyone who needs it. Try it here: http://www.kinesense-vca.com/tools/vid-id.html If you have a problem video file, use this tool to identify it. Its a work in progress, so I’m hoping for feedback (and feature suggestions to make the ID tool better) and if you find a format thats not in my database, please let me know and I’ll add it. -
hardisk / hdd can not read file on PC
mark_kinesense replied to fernand's topic in General Digital Discussion
Many DVRs don't have standard file systems on their hard disk, or keep some of the file system on an embedded linux chip. So if you pull out the HD and stick it into a PC, windows will detect an unformated drive. Don't format it - it will wipe everything from the disk. The only way you could back this up is with some forensic imaging software that makes a complete bit-by-bit copy of the disk. O&O do this ($30) but unless there is something really important on the hard disk, I wouldn't bother. Restoring the disk may not work (the DVR may only work with a particular make and model of HD) and you would only be able to play it in the DVR anyway. If you need to make a copy of some video from the DVR, better to export it using the DVR to CD or USB stick. -
can play bix file on media player

We have a free online tool for identifying odd CCTV video file formats. You give it the file name, and the tool looks it up in a database of formats, and emails you the manufacturer and a download link for the codec or player. http://www.kinesense-vca.com/tools/vid-id.html (unfortunately, url links seem to be disabled, so you'll have to copy and paste that link to go to the page) -
Usually these DVRs have their file system records or operating system and codecs, etc, on an embedded chip on the DVR mother board. If you take out the hard disk you have unreadable garbage. You have to us the "export" function to output the video files to a CD or USB stick. Then you have video files in another bizarre format, but in this case, the manufacturer will provide a special software player. This online tool is useful for telling you the file format, and which player to use: http://www.kinesense-vca.com/tools/vid-id.html
