How secure is the PSS software? Can someone access it and do a backdoor and get into your network?

Above is the factory 6mm lens. As you can see, no dark ring around the corners. Here is the 3.6mm lens for $3.00. It creates a dark ring around the corners and at night it is worse because of the LED flare. The other 3.6mm MegaPixel lens does NOT create the dark ring. All-in-all, I think it is better to pay the $14.00 and get the better lens vs. the $3.00 lens. It's just $11.00 more and you don't get the dark ring and flare at night. You get what you paid for...

I am having a hard time getting a screen shot. I can download video but it requires the special codec to play it. Any quick guide on how to grab a screen shot/pic off of the NVR?

I received the new lenses and installed them today. Here is the review: The $3.00 lens (3.6mm) leaves a dark ring around the viewing area. I believe this is due to the lens not wanting to focus until I almost had to screw it all the way in. The view is wider, which I do like, but the dark ring is somewhat of annoying factor. The $14 MegaPixel Lens (PT-03618MP 3.6mm F1.8, Mega Pixel). It gives me the wider shot but there is NO dark ring around the corners like the above lens. The lens focused in at the same spot the factory lens does, unlike the above lens. Overall the 3.6 mm lens gives the wider shot but at the cost of losing a narrower more upclose shot. Without a doubt the $14 lens is the better lens if you want a wider shot without the dark ring around the corners. I will try and take screen shots and post the before and after.

Which recording mode is the best quality? 720p, 1.3m or D1? Can one install other model Dahua cameras on this system? Will they work with the NVR?

I ordered them on Sunday and they shipped out today (Monday) and I should have the lenses by Wednesday. I will install them and then post my results. With the stock Q-See/Dahua bullet cameras, if one is viewing them through a LCD monitor that only RGB/VGA. What quality would it display? 480P?

I ordered two of the 3.6mm lenses and I also ordered one of the $14 MegaPixel Lens (PT-03618MP 3.6mm F1.8, Mega Pixel). I like the wider shot the 3.6mm gives. The 6mm is good for long distance shots.

So with the 3.6mm lens you get a wider field of vision. How hard is it to swap out the lens? How do you like the Q-See system?

Couple questions on this Q-See system: 1 - Are you able to zoom in or out with these cameras? (tried the controls but nothing happened) 2 - Is there an audio function on them? 3 - The remote viewing was a pain to setup. I downloaded the "IP CAM VIEWER" app from Google and it worked perfectly. Is this app better than using the DDNS setup from Q-see?

I'm waiting to see the answer to this also before I take back my 4 channel. I kind of got a preliminary response from Q-See as "NO". It is not possible to daisy chain the 4-channel to another 4-channel NVR. As far as other Dahua cameras go, I still haven't gotten a response. The 8 Channel NVR with 4 cameras goes for around $1,300. The 8 channel Q-See NVR by itself sells for around $630 on Ebay. The 4 channel Q-See NVR goes for around $500. So all-in-all, this Costco deal with the 4 cameras and 4 channel NVR for $700 is a good deal. It's not the perfect system but when I priced it out for assembling my own similar system, I was around $1,300. For now, a 4 channel system will work for me. I don't think I need to expand it but maybe 3 years from now I might want to. By then NVR's should be a lot cheaper & better cameras will be out (5MP or higher). For the price, this is the best HD 720p with NVR out there. It's not perfect but if it was, it wouldn't cost $700, it would be around $1,300+

Can one install (daisy chain) another NVR to this 4-channel system in order to run more than 4 cameras? Can one install other Dahua model cameras on this system or will the Q-See NVR not recognize them?

Are the ACTi cameras compatible with Dahura cameras? How does this model ACTi compare to say a Dahura?

What is a good but not too expensive IP System for home use (2-3 cameras)? Preferably wireless but wired is OK.

What about ACTi? Are they good for home use or just commercial?

Are analog CCTV cameras limited to 480p? I was told that with a DVR based system, I am limited to 480p unless I go with an IP or NVR system. Is that true?

I had an IT guy trying to get the Qvis DVR to connect to the internet but with no luck. I can connect to the router remotely but it doesn't connect to the DVR. I am using a Netgear Router. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I installed 11 CNB domed cameras. The quality is decent but unless the person is in front of the camera, their faces are not that crisp and clear. What determines the quality of the picture? Is it just the CCTV itself, or the DVR, or the power source? Also, who makes a really good outdoor camera that allows for manual zoom controls from the DVR?

Getting ready to install a CCTV system and I am going to have the power and video signal go through a Cat5 cable. My questions: - Does the cable need to be shielded if it is passing around CFL lighting in a hotel? - What is the difference between Cat5 and Cat5e? - I read about some bad Cat5 cables being made in China that fall apart and have poor wiring inside of them. Where can I buy QUALITY cables at? THANKS!

I can connect the video connection but where can I find an adapter that will let me connect the power to the CCTV connection? As you see, the CCTV connection has some sort of pin connection which does not work with the "plug & play" of the balun.

The one problem with cutting the line and stripping it voids the warranty on the Baluns. While not a HUGE issue, once they are cut, no returns. The balun has a female end.
