Hi, I know my way around CCTV systems, DVR's Camera resolutions etc.. I have little experience with IP Camera's, The reason I want to set up a system using one now is the superior image quality and how we'll they preform with motion detection wirelessly, i.e no analogue signal to transmit and to incur interference. A car in my front drive has been recently damaged (a few times!) so I want to catch whatever kids are kicking wing mirrors off mine and the neighbors cars. Would I be correct in thinking I could buy an outdoor wireless IP camera and connect it to my home router allowing access to it on the network and better still if I set up port forwarding I could remotely log into it?, I just need one IP Camera for now so don't want to purchase a NVR so for recording I was thinking I could just use a normal PC. Any suggestions or products would be much appreciated, Sean.

IP System suggestions
seancctv replied to seancctv's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks Soundy, Sorry my use of terminology was not correct, yes I'm aware that IP is a protocol what I ment was I'd be looking to go down the IP route as it allows allows for better image resolution i.e Megapixel, yes I'm going to run power to it from Attic but getting connected to the router might be a problem, for this i'm thinking of using two existing home plugs I have as this could be a cheaper option, Would you suggest any camera's in particular? make?, I see so much crap on ebay. -
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on a query of mine, To my knowledge getting a camera that of resolution 540tvl and recorder that only records at CIF would be a waste, My question is if I purchase a recorder that records at D1 per Camera what spec should go for to utilize this i.e would 700tvl be a waste of a camera or would something like 540tvl produce the maximum image quality. Any knowledge would be great.

Resolution and TVL's, what spec Camera to buy
seancctv replied to seancctv's topic in Security Cameras
I have been told for not a reliable source that using CIF dvr recorder the max camera resolution you should go for is 48tvl, and D1 is 540tvl, Can anyone confirm this and point me in the direction of what to look for regarding stats when purchasing a dome vandal proof camera? thanks -
Firstly I'd like to say this is my first post appreciate the help and information I have gotten from is forum!. I friend has asked me to install a cctv system into a van for him, I have sourced a mobile dvr unit that fits the bill, A question has been dropped onto me that i'm still unclear of, it's regarding IP Camera system, By reading up and googling I got the impression that IP system delivers much clearer images and resolution, but i think I'm getting confused, I was asked why not install IP Cameras onto the van? to me I would think IP cameras would not be of use on the van as all 4 cameras feed into the DVR unit which has it's own ip and remote access? they Record at D1 resolution for each Camera with 540tvl Camera's, so the quality is good for some reason he thinks having IP camera's would be better? Can some expert please shed some light in this unclear topic for myself it would be much appreciated.

IP Camera system or Analog digital confusion
seancctv replied to seancctv's topic in General Digital Discussion
Firstly i'd like to say i've been on millions of forums regarding different topics, this by far! has been the quickest and most concise professional answers i've even gotten, each comment has cleared up my initial understanding of IP systems, I was aware of the protocol and concept due to a computer background but was unclear of why the word per say on the street there better quality, Soundy your spot on to what i was thinking about the capabilities of using the IP protocol can far succeed that of normal analog CCTV Cameras and units but its not fair to say there better quality from the begining, I have a mobile dvr in place in the van with a 3g sim card for remote viewing, it's a good piece of kit sourced from China, I know some of there products can be dodgy but I'm happy with it for this small application so far, he basically has a small company with around 6 vans that he wants to be able to monitor and record around the Clock, so I think going down the IP route would be overkill and costly especially when each camera is recording at D1 I checked its not split down to CIF, am unsure of frame rate tho so I will be sure to check that. the van is monitoring the outside with four Cameras, so quality is important up close but not picking up a Reg from 100 metres quality. It was just someone dropped that question on my lap and I had no idea of the answer and from reading just got more confused mixing up the protocol with image quality. I would expect IP to be used with conjunction with network video recorder (NVR) on a larger project with high res cameras needed mounted up high on buildings etc not at head height checking to see if someone is breaking into the van or walking around it. Any other thoughts feel free to educate me more or if you know of any very small NVR's for 12volt mobile use. Thanks again.
