  1. Restarted a few times, during uninstall, reinstall and DPI change - on Win7 64bit you only need to logoff to set change. The only thing i can think of is I did play with fonts but have reset all of those back to default by downloading a new windows theme... 9 point. Reinstalled after that too, etc I've no programming experience i'm more on the tech side of PC's. If there was something that could be done to get PSS to accommodate 120 DPI i would be beyond grateful. Like a 120 size skin option? It's version PSS 4.05 downloaded form Dahua website, Win 7 64bit Agreed. I've setup it up a dozen times on Windows Vista/7 computers where I had to reduce the dpi and have never had it not work. Windows 7 does require you to log out and log back in for the resolution change to take place, but beyond that, the PSS screen should appear as normal. I know, that's why i can't figure out why it's not picking up the 96DPI setting. If i increase DPI, skewing gets worse, when i reduce DPI back to 96 it shows as in screen shots.
  2. This is strange - I'm using windows and reverted back to 96 DPi (100%) and PSS still appears as below: I contacted Dahua, and they basically replied saying they have no plans to make PSS DPi aware and have yet to offer a solution to the above. A bit disappointing really. Anyway, I have removed the program, deleted all files, cleaned reg, reinstalled into a different directory and still can't make it look normal at 96DPi. Besides, i can't leave it on 96 - the font is way to small on my 1920x1200 (native resolution) screen. Does anyone know if the web service is DPi aware?
  3. Cheez you know your stuff, thanks. That's a bugger DSS probably wouldn't suit my needs and more than likely has the same problem. So that leaves me with the web service via IE - you don't happen to know if it's DPi-aware? I sure hope so! I couldn't find the other program you mentioned on your website?
  4. Thanks that's very clear and i know exactly what to do now. Will delete 666666 user too. Yeah the DPi is a pain as i have mine increased and the software doesn't even respond to Compatibility mode... Out of interest does their DSS Software have the same DPi issue? I can't get it to work without any DVR to connect to. So cannot test.
  5. Thanks guys! Rory, i presume i can login with admin, admin and setup the temp account, etc all remotely? And which program would you recommend i do the setup with PSS or webviewer? Secondly, it sounds like you use their stuff alot. With PSS i access it on my high res screen so i have increased the font DPi to 120. When i access the Config setting and Playback screens they are misaligned. Have you experience this and if so, happen to know of a work around? I contacted Dahua but they told me to reduce the resolution, which really isn't an ideal solution.
  6. Great info guys reassures me it can be done with ease and thanks for the default port no. I use logmein to access his pc so can config the router from there.
  7. To answer my own question and any one looking in the future - here is a great detailed video on PSS
  8. Hello all again, I've narrowed down my DVR choices to AVTech or Dahua. The deciding factor for me will be how good the CMS is in the following scenario: Easily view 3 dvr's (with 8 cams ea) located on different networks in separate locations all from one program... I have managed to sample AVTech Video Viewer Application and altho' a little archaic it would do the job if you could save the layout on exit as below. Instead you have to resetup the view each time and considering i only login for 5 min at a time this is a bit of a pain. Uploaded with ImageShack.us So i'd like to try Dahua, trouble is i can't find any sites offering demo's of their software. I have installed PSS and it looks good but i have no dvr's with cameras to add so i can have a play. Anyone here know of any? Or is there CMS software compatible with many DVR just for viewing, don't mind paying a little if it's easy to use? Something as easy as Blue Iris for my IP cams would be great! Thanks again!
  9. Hi again everyone, I'm installing 2 CCTV dome cameras with tinted/smoked bubble for a friend in the hallway and lounge of his flat in the UK. I'm keen to make the job as neat as possible so I'm after a housing that can hide the RJ45 baluns and BNC connectors bundle in case i need to access them in the future. So, basically just the CAT6 cable enters the CCTV enclosure. Unfortunately, I can't drill a big hole above the cam to hide the connectors. I liked the look of the Sony ssc-n21 mini domes, however they aren't tinted and nowhere to hide connectors. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated on good quality dome cams with Sony Effio and no IR. Help please

Which camera would you recommend IR or Not

Thanks guys excellent info, think we will go for the day/night camera with a lamp on a timer.
  11. Hello again! I'm trying to decide between 2 different camera's. 1. Sony SSC-N21 650 Effio-E with Electrical Day/Night function OR 2. 700TVL Sony Effio-E with IR vandal proof dome? They will be installed indoor a residential flat in the hallways. I understand the IR will glow when all the internal lights are turned off. My question is, and i need help deciding, how efficient will camera 1. be at night when all the lights are off. Would you be able to recognise someone's face with very little light? Or is it best to put up with the glow of camera 2. IR and get a potentially(?) clearer nighttime recording? Help please? Thanks
  12. Hello to all, i'm new around here and from the UK A friend has just brought a new flat and asked me to kit it out with CCTV in the next few weeks, then while the renovations are taking place they can hide the cables etc... He is a great friend but very fussy. He remotely accesses CCTV installed in his 3 properties, which i have seen and the quality is not that great, bearing in mind viewing via the internet. Anyway i'd like to install a good/better than the rest CCTV system that will only be viewed remotely via the internet for 6 months of the year. The rest of the time the property will be empty. Is it worth going for an HD system if only viewing remotely? The requirements: DVR with remote viewing, easy menus and via Blackberry Bold 9900 4 indoor camera's required with varifocal lenses (so i can on the fly setup each room) Night vision Budget around £500, including all accessories, cables, etc but could go up to £1000 Any recommendations for good quality reliable equipment will be much appreciated, perhaps one good midrange camera/dvr and a top spec system within £1000 budget to compare would be really ideal. I don't know where to start! Thanks
  13. Hello again, i'm finding this forum very helpful and have another question? I'm planning on buying two 700 TVL SONY EFFIO-E cams and RG59 with power BNC cables for a friends flat that can be fixed into place during the renovation and i will buy the DVR when the renovation is finished. I'd like to test the camera's and most importantly the cables all work during the renovation - is there any way i can do this with my PC monitor or a laptop? Something like a BNC to VGA converter? Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the through response! I like the idea of using network cables for the cams instead of coax. In fact i was going to "future proof" the flat and run CAT6 next to the coax. So if i run two CAT6 cables (one for back up) that would be perfect. I had a quick look and to wire up CAT6 would i use 1 pair for video and the remaining 3 pairs for power per camera on either end? Is the quality video/interference protection the same as coax? Finally (sorry about all the questions) is it ok to use CAT6 instead of CAT5e? Re testing the cables, as this is just a one off, i'd like to keep costs down on checking the cables, if i just stuck RJ45's on the end and network tested them I suppose that would suffice. It would be nice to see the video through them tho'... but cheaply!
  15. Please excuse this question if it's a common feature... I'm looking for a quality 4 cam DVR that can record continuously and also email a snapshot when someone/something comes into view of the CCTV. I think i want motion detect and continuous recording at the same time? And also when i log into the DVR remotely i can search motion detect events and as a backup can view all continuous footage too? Is this possible, or do they all do this and i'm being thick Thanks
  16. Not that i really know what i'm looking at but comparing the specs to other DVR the Avermedia Averdigi EH1004H-4 NANO Hybrid seems amazing. This may sound like a stupid question but is it proven to be a reliable piece of kit, i've never heard of them before.
  17. I'd use eBay for myself but with this purchase i'd like to have good hardware backup as if a unit were to fail i'd like to be able to easily sort a replacement in a few days. Thanks i'll have a look at that DVR and Sony cams. Any other suggestions, if possible i'd like to get it all from one shop?
