Best DVR for security cameras. AverMedia or Digimerge?
tsc757 replied to tsc757's topic in Digital Video Recorders
if you dont have a static ip address / Thanks for that info it might come in handy in case my ip changes. I know my friend had problems with that since his ip changed every week or so. But mine seems to be steady. It hasen't changed yet. From my router I gave it an ip address and I can access with my iphone and remote from my laptop. The only thing I am trying to figure out is to use the replay function remotely and copying or backing up via my laptop. The only thing I am not sure of is how to get access with my iphone when I'm away from my wifi. I will try a few things when I have more time... Wife, daughter x2, and dog on my case for the past week lol. -
Best DVR for security cameras. AverMedia or Digimerge?

Hi there, don't want to hijack your thread but what would you suggest for a standalone dvr which is good quality and simple to use with WiFi support and Iphone use for around 600 to 800 $ ? ie. I have been comparing AVERDIGI EB1304NET, Digimerge DH204501 which seems to be what security installers prefer in Montreal area. I can find the swann, lorex, and Q-see systems that include a DVR at most large retail stores but my little guy inside tells me to Stay away. ?! Thanks -

Hi Yall... Well the nano is up and running with only 2 analogue cameras atm. The Iphone ap is easy to use, and for the remote computer software I am still working on it (actually didn't try logging on it yet) The UI with the nano is easy to use but I just started playing with it. I will be back with a few pictures when I figure out how to get them out of the nano lmao. later -
Hi all. This is a followup of the thread I have here viewtopic.php?f=56&t=27579 As mentioned in the other thread for those who didn't read it I need 2 good IP camera and 2 good but not too expensive analogs for general use. So I have been looking alot in the IP cam and my choice is probably gonna be Arecont vision AV1325 http://www.arecontvision.com/AV1325.html but for the analog cams I did absolutely no looking around and I am now at that point....... looking for an analog cam. I have this that I can put my hands on for about $200 but I am not sure what to look for in the analog to obtain a good quality. If someone can check this out and give me some feedback I would greatly appreciate. This is Da Ting !! http://www.digimerge.com/product/dpd24dl/

just sales marketing some data sheets will give TVL as a colour camera some will list the best TVL but not tell you thats in B/W Yup, I actually went to see the rep in charge of the distribution for Everfocus around here and he told me they do the 720 tvl but it is a cheap version to compete with the made in china brands for whoever wants to go the low budget way. He showed me a few of his analogs and I bought one of these http://www.everfocus.com/product.cfm?productid=52&tab=specs . I was tempted by this one first http://www.everfocus.com/product.cfm?productid=154&tab=specs but installation of the Dome was easier for my space. Also I thought once the dome is set and focused nobody can easily play with the settings where as the EBD430 model ( the second link ) you have to rings right at your figure tips if some jerk wants to screw with your focus.. Then again who would be stupid enough to play with that when the thing is looking at you lol . I will give it a try and see what comes out of it. Just the varifocal at 2.9 will make a huge difference with the camera I have atm which is probably some fixed 5mm or close to there. -

Also found these from Everfocus : http://www.everfocus.com/product.cfm?productid=40&tab=specs http://www.everfocus.com/product.cfm?productid=23&tab=specs They also have this Ultra Series 720+ TVL but the thing is they seem to be less expensive than the others. Is the 720+ TVL advertised just a catch phrase or are they really better quality. On the web site they only have one advertised but on a document I received I have a few others. I looked them all up and they average $120. Somewhat confused about the better TVL at lower price.... -

Just to keep you all posted. I have received my eh1000-4 nano from Avermedia and I plugged in a 500 gig HHD that I had sitting on a shelf. I have not had a chance to connect any cams on it as of yet since I had family over for a week. I will try and have an update up for this week. I think for my Home - Business security system the nano will do the job. Hybrid I took because 2 of my cameras need to be good quality image ( therefore IP cams ) and the other 2 need only to see if the rooms are accessed so I would put 2 good analogue to detect movement in there. They have to pass in front of the IP to get to the analogs so I still will get a good view of the intruder that goes in the analog cam room. If for some reason the nano4 is not enough I think I will add an IP cam to my computer. I heard of a program called somethin like Milestone ?? to run the IP cams. Did anyone ever hear of it. It's like $50 per cam from what the guy told me. later -
Hiya ssnapier. I can't promise anything but I work in the airline business and I have a few buddies of mine flying the giant eggbeaters. I will see if I can get any info about. One sure thing is that any Mod has to be certified for the airworthiness of the craft unless there is some rule to differ it that I am not aware of

Well I've ordered the averdigi nano-4. Should be here in a few days, giving my some time to go get a HHD for the box. I thank you all for the help which made me think wisely before spending money. I will keep you informed of how things go as I get the material. -

The cool thing is I didn't sign to anything yet so I can still decide. Ok let this be my last question ( Ya! Like I never said that before ) lol. I'm back to the nano-4 atm, Now both of you, SEANHAWG and tomcctv seem to be confidant in Dahua. So tell me which one of the Dahua would do the job for lets say 4 analog, Iphone 3GS viewing. I have been over your site SEANHAWG and there is about $100 diff between the economy grade and pro grade. Are they much better than the ones Swann, Q-see and Lorex sell with their bundles. I know tomcctv might have said something about Q-see selling a dahua with their systems once. AND finally if I go with a dahua I have to commit to analog so are there any good analog cams that can give me good details on the person committing and infraction or will IP always win over analog. Don't need camera types just some reassuring. Thanks again. -

Awww... I was just about to press "payout" for the nano-4 when the sales rep at an alarm shop gave me a call, so I put a hold on pressing the payout button and heard him out and decided to go with a Geovison 600-4 dvr capture card in my computer.( http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/Prod_GV600A.asp) This was not my original plan at all but seeing that I live in a cold cold place on earth so we checked the IP cams supported by AverDigi nano-4 and there are not many cams that will live outside my doorstep without knock at the door so I can let them in to warm up. Otherwise if I do decide to go with the nano-4 the ip cameras that will support -35C are pretty expensive. Although my intentions are to install 3 to 4 analog cams for the moment and then eventually add one or 2 ip cams ptz or replace 2 analog with 2 IP cams. (ptz or not, still debating ) Every time I come back to the forum to tell you my story I end up second guessing my decisions. I just do want to get ripped off. Will a capture card end up costing more than a standalone dvr. I have a pretty nice computer downstairs that is just sitting there doing nothing while we use the laptops upstairs, so I thought why not put it to good use. For the same price of the nano-4 I get the card and I can fit a analog camera that is Metal weather proof - 1/3 Sony CCD - 600TVL - SInfrared HD 4-9MM DC 12. Actually he said they had a new one that was 2.7 - 9 mm I have till 6:00pm to make a decision otherwise my wife will pull the plug. lmao Thank you for any comments and help. It is all greatly appreciated and informative. -

So down to 2 the aver or dahua. Getting there ! I noticed the aver nano does not seem to come with a HDD. If it is the case what are good 500 gig drive that can be placed in there that will handle the 24 hour work without frying ? Tom did u try the Dahua Hybrid DH-DVR0404HE-T-4H .... just wondering. -

Well thank you both for all the info. Seem like the closer I get to choosing the more confused I get lol . I will look into the Dahua a little more as of Monday. As of now the Nano from avermedia sounds good although I saw a few posts where some technical issues cam up. I do like the fact that I can use the eh1000h-4 with either ip or analog cams though. I found the nano-4 for about $400 and received a few other quotes offering me a Digimerge DH104501 for $400 also or the DH204501 at $485. Also am I better off with Cat5E and Balun or BNC. For what you said rory about building computers, I've done that and these days I rather go simple installation. I've got so many other things to do that I rather get a plug and play type dvr. I did look in geovision 600-4 and mix IP cams and analog but I don't want to use my computer as it consumes way more power than a dvr and they would probably end up leaving with the computer anyways if they broke in Aright... got to run after the kids.. -

Hmm I've checked out a few Dahua's and found a few to be around the $190 worth.... some at $300 and up. Would those be considered as cheap ? Also looking deaper in the Digimerge, I found something that kinda linked digimerge with lorex (are they same brand under diff names?) If I rephrase the question. What should I look for in a good DVR and what software is a good DVR software, perhaps the software will make a price difference ? I forgot to say I was looking at putting 3 to 4 cams on my system.
