Just curious, On my aver 6480 card, when I connect the "TV out" to a monitor. is it normal for the camera id number to flash in the upper left corner? Is there any way to shut that off? its really quite annoying! Thanks, John

hi John. your still showing as active and working on the aver server............... do you want me to delete it. I guess so, I had a terrible time trying to get on it, ans never could get it at my friends house. So, I suppose as long as it working for me this way, you con go ahead and cancel the other one. I sure appreciate you a lot man! Thanks, John

Hi Tom, Well now I feel like a complete idiot! I just went and hooked up my TV monitor for the first time since I had that issue. I had put this on the back burner till I got my internet issue resolved. Now its working fine. Guess it would help if I checked first to be sure it was still happening before sending out an S.O.S. Thanks, my friend. John Oh, just for update... since our last pm, I was still having problems getting connected online. some times I could and sometimes I couldn't so, just for the fun of it, I set up a free DYNDNS account and now its working fine!

Why Ip camera is better than analog?
myplace46 replied to ab2reza1360's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hey Tom, I saw a pistol grip camera just like that one the other day and they wanted a whopping $9.95 for it! I can attest to the disappointing IQ of some analog cameras and I suppose the same can be said about Megapixel cams (some IP cams are also analog) as for cost... if you're looking to set up your own system for home use, don't be afraid to try the used market. You have to be patient but the wait can be worth it. For example: I purchased $5200 worth of gear for $1075. That includes the Aver 6840eNVR that allows both IP and analog cameras. and five megapixel cameras. One camera I got was a 5mp day/night one 3mp day/night and 3 IQeye852 @1.3mp. each. if you add the analog equipment,11 cams+ controllers, PTZ units etc, valued at over $12,100 that I paid roughly $1430 for. that comes to roughly $2505 that I have invested in a system that would have cost $19,994.00 if everything was purchased new. BTW a lot of the pieces I bought were new-old stock items. Do I feel like I have an $20,000 system? no way! but do I feel like I have a pretty good set up for the investment? you bet! In today's market, 19,000 will get you a lot more bang for the buck in all IP megapixel gear but I don't think you can beat what I have for the investment. one other point. Yes, some gear is outdated but, that's why I got it at the prices I paid. To all the pro guys out there, I understand you can't install this kind of equipment for your customers, it just wouldn't be practical no matter how you look at it. All I'm saying is, for the guy that wants to, you can find deals out there if you're willing to be you own installer and support tech, go for it. I know Tom can vouch for some of the obstacles he helped me with so, I'm not claiming this is something everyone will want to try. Cheers, John -
hey Max, I know just what you mean, I'm using one of my Rainbow 8x48 on my Arcont 5mp and it works great at the long end but, the wider I go with it the harder it is to get to focus! Thanks for all the tips, guys, I appreciate it. Cheers, John

Hey guys, Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. several years ago I bought a good quality cat5 crimping tool and a box of connectors for a networking job I had. I've made up several cables with good success. Problem now is, I made up a cable about 80ft long for one of my ip cams and I can't get it to work. I have tested continuity at the connectors with my ohm meter and its telling me I have a good cable. It just wont work. is there a limit as to how long a cable I can use? any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks, John

Thank you so much, guys! Soon as I looked at the example in that link, I knew what I had done wrong. Funny how a few years can play havoc on the ol' memory.... Well, it was about 12 years ago when I made my last patch cable. Thanks again, the cameras working fine now! John PS. can anyone suggest a reasonably priced lens, say a 5-50mm that will work nicely with the IQeye 852? Thanks again,

NV7480e card and 'initialization error' - (Fixed for now :)
myplace46 replied to sov's topic in AverMedia
Don't feel to badly, I was a little confused when I was setting mine up also. I have the same card. I'm also using Win7 64 bit for my system. The only problem I'm having now is trying to get my system to work through the internet, it just doesn't want to cooperate! Cheers, John -
Hey guys, the other day after I finished up installing one of my cameras, I was very pleased with the IQ. I was really surprised I could read the street sign on the corner a block away when I zoomed in. Then a couple hours later I came back, and the image was a bit blurry. When I zoomed in I could see a definite ghosting in the image. This seems to be across the board on all my cameras but, shows up more on cameras where I can zoom in. Previously, I just thought that was the best I could expect form analog cams but now I can see there must be another problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks, John

Hey Shockwave, Well... I took it down the other day to rework it a little. After the next rain it managed to get some water inside. Don't know how, its still the same as it was on the outside but, anyway it quit working. If I open it up and twist the camera loose from its base, then reconnect it, it comes on for a couple minuets then quits again. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Hey guys, Hoping someone can tell me if I have to use one of IQinvision's lenses on there 800 series cameras? I have an opportunity to get a couple cameras without the lens at a good price but, not sure if it will be worth it if I have to buy special lenses to go with them. TIA, John

Thanks so much for the reply, MaxIcon. I thought would be the case but, wanted to be sure. Seems like I always find out too late when I think I'm getting a deal and find out later I have to put out more money than planed to get things working. I already got one cam, an 852. Only problem is its on its way back to the seller because it was DOA. He's going to make it right with me. He has a couple others that I'm thinking about making an offer on. One is an 802 and the other is an 811. If you know of any reason why I should stay away from either of these, Please give me a heads up. Thanks again, John

Why do these things come up when I don't have any money?! I take credit cards if that helps I really appreciate that, wireguy but, I got rid of all my credit cards several years ago just for that reason! I could always justify a purchase as something I really needed and it was just too easy to let things get out of hand. now, I have to save up first. Its tough but, kinda nice not having the bills to pay. Thanks, John

Hey guys, Well, 4 months later and I finally discovered why I was having such a problem with ghosting. At least in cam 8. That was the one giving me the most problem. What was making it so hard to diagnose was that when I first put it up, I was very happy with the IQ when zooming in. Then later when I came back to it, the IQ was lousy. Tried several different things but, never any luck. Well... today I decided it was time to clean the spider webs of the lens as they were getting obvious in the image. I took off the lower dome and took it into the house to clean. Then it hit me... I went to the monitor and zoomed in on a distant object. The image was great! Then it dawned on me that when I first installed it, I made my first test run without the dome cover in place. After I was happy with the way it was working, I then put the dome on. I took a bit of time cleaning up my tools and putting things away before going back inside. By that time, I didn't make the connection between the poor IQ and putting the dome on. What a dummy! BTW, I believe the reason the dome makes such a difference is because I'm using a 5 inch camera in an 8 inch dome. Apparently the extra distance between the lens and the curved dome lens is what's causing the problem. I think I have the solution for it, something like this... here is a sample of the difference IQ with and without the dome in place. 1. without dome. about 250 feet from camera. 2. with dome. 3. without dome, 200ft the other direction. 4. with dome. 5. without. So you can get an idea how far away these are, here's a zoomed out image that shows target area in a red square. mailbox 822 mailbox 711 for an analog camera, I'm fairly happy with the IQ without the dome, now to fix that. Hmmm... wonder why it quit working?

Updating Honeywell Fusion III DVR
myplace46 replied to Osaid's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi Osaid, If I'm understanding correctly, you should be able to go to Microsoft's site and download SP3 for free. Hope that helps. John -
Hey guys, I just had to express my joy regarding my Toshiba IK-DP30A PTZ camera I got last month. I hadn't done anything with it because I didn't have a housing for it. Well today I decided to hook it up temporarily in my carport just to see what it will do. Well, I'm amazed, the IQ is better than any of my cams and being able to adjust the PTZ, iris and focus all with my mouse, is really a blast! I could sit here and play with it for hours. Anyway, now I see why these things cost so much. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. because of a medical condition, I some times have a problem with the feelings in my hands and often fumble things. well as I was working on putting up the cam... I dropped it... on the concrete... head first. well, after recovering from a mild heart attack, I checked it out... only damage was a slight crack in the plastic dome head, everything works great! What a relief.
-
i don't know the size yet as i still don't have access to a ladder to get the thing down. yes, it is just the plastic dome that is damaged. but i live in the UK, would P+P costs be high from America? I don't think it would be too bad, Luke. I bought a couple lower domes a while back and would be happy to let you have one if it will fit. When you get a chance to get it down, measure the inside opening of the dome ring. we'll see what we can do. Cheers, John
-
Hey Luke, What size is the dome? 5" 8"? Is it just the plastic lower dome or the whole pendant that's damaged? I might be able to help. Cheers, John

Ever think about going into the blackmail business? Just kidding of coarse.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the feedback. I really do appreciate it. I didn't even think about the fact I could use my laptop to view the camera. Thanks again, John
-
Hey guys, I know there must be a good solution to this problem but, I'm at a loss as to how to focus an IP cam. On analog cams I take my portable TV out to the camera and make adjustments on the spot. My megapixel camera has to go through a network. So, how do the pro's do it? John

Camera bright light bright light
myplace46 replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Security Cameras
No. And why would you focus on a light anyway? Verry funny Matt. Not on the light, just in that general direction. -
This is how I take care of the problem. Heavy steel frame screws onto the existing wood frame, swings outward so it can't be kicked in. I can build these in several styles. I make security bars for windows too.
