Ha, looks like Tom is answering while I'm plucking out my reply. Anyway, the one you have in your first post is the same one I got. Seems to be good quality, I felt much better getting from them than a cheaper one on eBay. John

Any recommendations on the correct card/converter? I had assumed I would need one serial channel per PTZ camera. Is that not correct? Tom is correct, you only need one. you use the software to program each camera's ID, protocol etc. once you do it, you'll understand, its pretty simple. John

Hey Charlie, That's the same place I bought mine from. Good fast service. I discovered after I had already ordered it, that I didn't have any RS232 serial ports on my computer! Had to get an adapter to change it to USB. still, it works fine. you can get one that converts USB port to RS485 if you need it. John PS. You might want to stay away from those lower priced, so called Sony PTZ cams. They have a Sony chip but are made in China out of much cheaper parts than a Sony Cam.

Hi, I see your question has gone unanswered, have you gotten your problem solved? John
-
myplace46, to be honest I really didn't notice any improvement in picture quality on my system. Maybe Im doing something wrong . Did you notice the improvement in preview, playback or both ? I do see a huge difference in both. But its only noticeable when there is movement such as a car going by or people walking by. With out it, for example, the jaggies around the moving vehicle makes it impossible to recognize what kind of car it is. Hope you get your problem solved, I got a ghosting problem on a couple cams that I'm still trying to figure out. Nothing to do with the card though. Had it before I got my card.

Hey Noddy, I'm a newbie myself but, I'm curious to know why you would choose not to use deinterlace? on my system it really helps with the IQ. I use it on all my analog cams. John

Strange, very strange. I tried it both ways... no difference. I put in a call to Aver tech support, hoping to hear back soon... hi. john. would you mind if i took alook around your settings ??? Of course not, you're more than welcome too. I think, all the info you need is my router IP and login right? I'll send you a PM in a second.

Hmmm... good question, I'd like to the answer to that too as I have a situation where one of my cams looks towards a street light. -

hi john yes they are you matrix start button. john are you using motherboard vga or are you using a card. but with not having right button mouse control something is not right. you might be better to update your software. That's just it, Tom. I have updated everything. I'm using an Nvidia Geforce 9500 GT with 1gb mem and the latest drivers. Do you (or anybody here) have any idea what this "Aero Mode" error message is that I get? Thanks, John

I watched something about the UK outlawing samurai swords after a rash of samurai sword attacks left people maimed (and many wished they had been killed)... anything can be an effective weapon, where do you draw the line? Also, pepper spray makes a terrible offensive weapon, you want to run away after you spray it or you'll get choked up too. I do a fair amount of work in prisons, you should see the creativity of inmates, making weapons out of just about anything there! I agree, Hardwired, I worked in law enforcement for a number of years. believe me, I would much rather be carrying when faced with some punk that doesn't care what he has to do to get his next fix. If it come to his life or mine, you can bet I'll go down fighting. I don't want to start a big argument on weapons versus no weapons, I know everybody feels different about the subject. Cheers,

what happens when you use imatrix direct on your screen at dvr ...... click on yellow buttom in top right of each image. ??? Are you referring to the graphic that looks like a little blue monitor with a yellow screen? when I click on that I get the message "You are not allowed to use live Playback function under Windows Vista Areo Mode, please exit Aero Mode before you use this function." I have no idea what they're talking about.

heTom, yes my right button brings up the pop up menu and I have no problem moving any of the other windows from other programs just Aver. Its weird, Must be something going on.
-
hi john. all avers are drag and drop if you have multiple screens you can even drage from 1 monitor to another. in standard screen click on image you want to move and while holding down the mouse button move the mouse to were you want the image then let go of mouse button. Hi ya Tom, No can do. Try as I might it doesn't work. I was planning on contacting you after I had a little more time playing with this set up hoping I wouldn't have to. But, since you're here... Besides, that. when I tried using "Remote iMatrix" it opens to a blank gray screen and the only way out is to use task manager to close it out. When I do that, the task bar at the bottom of my desktop disappears and so far the only way to get it back is to reboot. another problem is, how to access the menu (OSD) for several of my cameras via the RS485. I can use the PTZ but, can't access the menu to change settings. If you have any insite into any of these things, I sure would love to hear them. Thanks, John PS. Sorry, Sluthra. I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I haven't yet tried to set up the network because I know its going to be a pain and I'm dreading it. I'm sure you'll hear from me then.

Hey Sluthra, Just read your post. I built a system similar to yours last year. I built it to run PhotoShop CS5 to do some serious photo editing but, recently started using it to run my Aver NV6480. I went with the Asus P6T7 superComputer MB. A Thermaltake full height liquid cooled tower (7 fans) Core i7 cpu 12 gb ddr3 ram Nvidia 9500 (1gb) Memorex DVD 2-1tb and 1 1.5tb HD (for now, this thing will hold 12 drives and supports raid) Dual monitors 1-37" 1-47" Ready for some up grades but, funds are limited right now so.... I'm only running 12 cams right now but, like you said, ram and prosessor usage is minamal. So far I really like the Aver card although, I'd like to see some improvements in software. One biggie for me is not being able to drag my windows around the screen like I can with other software but, that's minor. I really don't like the playback system they have, I really liked the previous system I had much better. It was a lot simpler. Guess I'll have to give Aver a little pep talk. Cheers, John

Oh, never mind... I just realized the previous post was made in 2010!

That's weird, I have NV7.7.0.00127SP4 and according to there web site, that's the latest ver. to date. Am I missing something? Cheers, John PS. Collin, I tried clicking on the link on your post and all I get is some Chines writing.

Nice going! that was a pretty expensive camera in its day. cheers,
-
I really hope you never have the need to use it. Well, me too actually. Although If I had the chance to use it on the guys that broke into my house last year, I would have no problem pulling the trigger until the batteries went dead!
-
I agree. I recently purchased an M26 Taser with a 21ft range cartridge. pulling the trigger gives 5 seconds worth of 50,000 volts to the perp. the nice thing is you can pull the trigger again as often as needed.... They are expensive, but worth it.
