Not sure about how they would go about integrating by getting an IP. What I did on a recent install was used GeoVisions POS integration box. This box goes between the POS terminal and the printer. It basically "reads" the data sent to the POS printer and sends it (either via network or RS232/485) back to the geovision I/O card (or if the network module, over the network). Then within geovision you can tell it which camera to overlay the text onto. So when the printer prints things, it overlays it on the camera. Works good to record transactions and whatevers on the printout, shows up on the overlay

Not sure if thats the case with the new 8.5... at least with any regular card. I know the new NVR software supports, what 128 IP cameras? but to use an existing card (2 16's) and then some ip's not sure if that'll work, could be wrong, havnt tried it yet.

Digital Matrix was a GREAT idea, but man does it blow. At my office we have two 1120 cards. My boss has 2 spot monitors hooked up (16 cameras on each monitor) and gets a nice live view. But our Fisheye doesnt show. In my office I have a 32" tv setup via HDMI and it acts as a digital matrix monitor, but it lags. If i move my PTZ it lags, if i watch people walking its not "real time" like with the spot monitor. I also use digital matrix for clients and its the same scenario. When using digital matrix its not a fluid motion, its jerky, kinda sucks because it was a great idea in all honesty. The ability to just add video cards to get more monitors rather then having output cards. Maybe in 8.5 they've fixed this but i didnt see much. I know they now support IP cameras in DSP mode though so thats at least something good.

So you no longer sell GeoVision rory? I know you were a big supporter of their products for years... i still use their products but tired of the recent issues

Sooo heres my question... sometimes I have to go in and re-ghost a DVR. I keep my DVRs in a 2 partition setup. Main Partition: OS and Program Files 2nd Partition: Camera Data File It works out well, as I can save the data file and just re-ghost the 1st partition then run the repair database and it keeps all the data. However sometimes I work with a system that has a lot of complex entries. Like port #'s are different then my standard, or camera names (especially camera names) are used. Sometimes I have multiple users setup/etc.. Now I know the users are stored in the registry and not much I can do about that. But does anybody know if GeoVision stores their "config files" locally... What id like to do is re-ghost my machine and then copy over a bunch of "config files" to save me some time. So i don't have to go back and re-do the ports and re-name the cameras. I know its stored somewhere (registry???) because if i uninstall geovision and reinstall it, all that info is there.

yeah we're starting to get tired of the issues. Like you, we had no issues in the early 8.x days, worked great. My ghost image used that for a long time, then we FINALLY changed to the latest in our ghost... now we have issues constalty PTZ's on mini-servers stop working via the web These damn location errors constantly Software stops running for who knows what reason, just closes and the DVR is left doing nothing All these are new issues and nobody can seem to give me answers at geovision

Heck in a pinch I use an i3 chipset which is borderline as powerful as the old quad core chips from the Core2 days... I actually used to build 32 channel systems with Core2 Duos, then went to Core2 Quads for my 32's. Now I use the i7's everytime for a 32... but sometimes if im short on parts/etc... i'll use an i3... so i'd say you should be good with an i5 chipset.

If it works, great, too small for us. We use full size ATX boards that have additional outputs. Typically I like a bare minimum of 2 PCI and 2 PCI-X. typically we're doing boards with either 3 PCI and 2 PCI-X or 2 PCI and 3 PCI-X... reason for this is so we can support two cards, and so I can support additional components such as a 2nd video card if need be (but this has a 2nd PCI 2.0 slot which is good), or maybe even a raid card or who knows what else. I just like to be covered for expansion.

Which motherboard are you using. I just tried a GA-H67A-UD3HB3 and its doing the same thing, where it keeps powering up, then powering down right away. Its only with the PCI board it seems.

Center V2 won't display /able to view in Control Center live
Adam Daley replied to ckeeble's topic in Geovision
Make sure your port forwarding is setup right. Even though the DVR is talking TO the Center V2 station, Center V2 actually talks BACK to the DVR, and there is a port # you set in geovision... yeah it matters and yeah you have to throw it in your port forwarding table. I typically change all my geovision ports to one big range, so i can add one entry into my router, rather then 10 different entries. We had this issue with a client who had 25+ computers setup, each set to run Center V2 connecting to an individual DVR. We kept having issues getting Center V2 to read it, thats when we learned that we had to port forward the DVR's center v2 port... its under the network settings tab in geovision, look for Center v2 and add that to your router. It'll solve your issues. -
Interesting way to trip a light. We use them for flood lights on a football field but its either ON or OFF. We havnt used the PULSE option. The only time ive used pulse was for a garage door that someone using eMap clicked, but we pulsed it for 1 second. Can't be certain that you can pulse it for 900 seconds and then break the beam and have it go another 900 seconds mid-countdown, not 100% sure. But make sure you have a low voltage input ... dont try and switch 120v on the board, you'll fry it. A dry contact is your best option, and you can do this with a relay that will take that 120v and allow you to trigger it with a dry NC or NO contact. They sell them all over.

Thats under the AV Settings tab i believe under Advanced Video setting, its near the top of that av menu. Where you can set the resolution. Then make sure under your actual camera setting its recording at the higher resolution. Also theres a spot in there somewhere where yuo can tell it what modes to allow webcam to stream in...yeah i know im a big help right... sorry but just not in front of a DVR, but its in there.

I had emailed my distributor this but figured the more places I ask this, the better chance someone has an answer: I have a client who has 2 16 channel DVR's. Each DVR has a 10-bay HD array hooked up to it. We sold them a 32 channel system and a 20-bay hd caddy to consolidate everything, and we put a small rack in. Normally id just keep the storage drives, possibly run a repair database and call it a day, no issues. Well the problem here is that its 2 16 channel systems. So that means there are two sets of cam01, cam02, etc… soooo im having a bit of a hard time figuring out how to get their data into the database properly. I did some tests in my office and took a brand new DVR with no data and copied cam15 from my DVR in house. Now I don’t want this to showup as cam15 in the new DVR so what I did was I renamed the folder to cam01. Then I deleted the local database files if any existed, ran the repair database and well… it detected it as cam15 still… so that didn’t help. Do you guys know how geovision stores its files? I really need to get their old data onto the new 32 channel system, but I don't want to have cam01 having tons of files because its merging the two systems into one cam #

Combining 2 16 Channel Systems Into 1 32 Channel
Adam Daley replied to Adam Daley's topic in Geovision
Update. Thanks to the poster above, I was able to salvage some footage. Client needed a weeks worth of old data. So I copied the first DVR onto a blank HD. Renamed each folder from cam01 cam02, etc.. to cam17, cam18 etc... That was the first step. 2nd step was renaming the end of the files. I used a program called "Bulk Rename Utility" i found free on the web, used that. If you ever use it I made the following changes #5 (Remove) i set it to to remove the last 3 digits (theres a box that says "to" that i set to 3, so it stripped the last 3. #6 (Add) i set this to INSERT 017 for example and set "at pos" to "50" this way it'll put it at the very end, as the files don't go past 50 in length, it'll always put it at end. Then ran it, it processed all my files. I went directory by directory changing 017 to 018, etc... Worked like a charm. Now i can copy the 2nd DVR into the regular cam01 cam02 folders since thats their new position and then import the data over via rebuild -
Will this method work with say 2 1120-16 cards? So i could have one RCA out into my TV and show 32 cameras???

Combining 2 16 Channel Systems Into 1 32 Channel
Adam Daley replied to Adam Daley's topic in Geovision
Hmm thats definitly worth looking into. It'll take time. 2 16 channel systems and there are about 10 hard drives for each system (storage arrays). The database repair would take days to run (i know since i had to run it on another system, with only 5 2TB hard drives, took a few days while it repaired everything... they were missing files for some reason) -
I'm using an i7-870 Lynnfield with my 32 channels or i7-2600 Sandy

Yeah what he said. If you setup a new username with 2 cameras disabled, those 2 cameras will stay disabled, even if you add two new ones. You have to add them to your user account again.

"this software is incompatible with your location" error
Adam Daley replied to leur's topic in Geovision
GeoVision tech talked to me today. Said it might be a bad chip on the card itself or a bad PCI slot. Since it happens on multiple systems, im thinking bad chip on board. He said to RMA it if it happens constantly. -
Im having similar issues lately as well with PCI cards... but my supplier stocks PCI Express regularly luckily so im good there. I prefer PCI Express these days anyway as my motherboards have 3 PCI Express compared to 2 PCI
-
I've never even heard of a GV-900 must be over 4 years old? If so, then yeah it won't run new software.
-
They work great for PCI Express. Which is Sandy Bridge? How do i know whats what? EDIT: I see now. Yeah we're buying the 1155 chips which are Sandy Bridge. I used to use the 1156 which was Clarkdale but as i said, the motherboard i used no longer is being sold. And I prefer Gigabyte motherboards since they've always worked for me, and id rather not have to re-do all my ghost images and find new compatible hardware. I have used Asus a few times in the past, back when I had issues with dual cards... anybody have anything to say about the ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Its in my price range ($125 and under) and supports the memory i use all the time. Has 4 PCI Express slots, 1 PCI Express 2.0 and 2 PCI - works with 1156 chip which is what ive been using as well. i3-i7 Even the ASUS P7P55 LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard is good. 3 PCI, 2 PCI Express, 2 PCI Express 2.0 (one at x16 the other at x4... good for raid cards) This might work good, for $105 i can do a dual system using 1 of the pci and 1 of the pci express and have spares. I might try it next build

I usually don't change things when they work. Unfortatly we use full size ATX boards because we use the extra pci express and pci slots. Sometimes I put rad cards in, sometimes additional video cards. I was happy about making the change to a new board, because the new board im using has 2 pci express 2.0 slots which is great for 2nd graphics or a raid card. I ALWAYS use an after-market graphics card, never on-board. IN fact, the old motherboards i used had onboard graphics (DVI/VGA/DVI) but ONLY worked if you used an i3/i5 chipset, not with i7s which was odd... so we never utilized them anyway. But again, i use a Radeon HD 4350 graphics card, have been using the same one for the past 3-4 years now. $40 video card and it does just fine for the DVR needs.

"this software is incompatible with your location" error
Adam Daley replied to leur's topic in Geovision
Heres an update, still had the same issue with the client. I even went and replaced the entire DVR with a new one, using a different OS. Same issue. So now i replaced the system, a 3rd time. Gave them two new cards even. So far so good this time around. -
GV 8.4 missing "Pelco Dome" in drop down list of PTZ Control
Adam Daley replied to stabbi's topic in Geovision
I know man i know. Im in the same boat. Ive been telling clients "open viewlog, click the address book button" but hey with the new version its not there anymore. So now they have to CANCEL and then click the address book (because hey F10 doesnt work sometimes, they took that out also apparantly)... Not sure what they are doing but its driving me crazy. And then half the time the old remote playback doesnt work in the new software. They include it, i configure it because some clients use it (because theres nothing for me to configure) and it doesnt work. Why cant they just pass the DVR info onto the viewlog button like they do for eMap and multiview, its a better program for playback but i have to walk each customer through setting it up. Its a real pain
