that depends on which unit you are looking at. is there a reason why you cant run active x I was looking at the 8 channel hybrid model. They only show two dvrs one 4 channel and other 8ch. Can't run activeX b/c im not local admin on PC's when im on the road and they are blocked. I need a simple java based remote software.

I intend to use the software locally but the issue is when im away from home i can't install plugins to FF or download ActiveX plugins so i need a java based remote view software. No one seems to make sure a DVR i guess.

I'm PC based, but im sure if they don't require it for Mac it will be the same for PC. Is there anything now on the market that will meet my needs? I suppose i can run two 4 channel but that is not practical

I should add the avermedia is only 60fps at D1 which is only 7.5fps not to mention it also does not have a java based viewer

I looked at that last week and was a click away from purchasing it. However they require ActiveX installer to view online and that does not work for my needs. I need a remote view software like this which is java based and give me full control of everything i need via remote login. http://216.106.180.218:94/ If only Avtech had an 8 channel that had D1 it would be a done deal or Avermedia with java based remote software. Any other suggestions?

I think i have the DVR now under my belt and im looking at 4 quality cameras. My buddy recommended Pelco and Speco and im leaning towards Speco b/c i see they offer bullet and dome cameras. what model Speco Dome and bullet do you recommend. Looking for at least 600TVL or better for a 4 channel system. Looking for Dome or bullet i think dome would be best by front door while bullet on the outside of the garage. Thanks

That was my feeling as well. I just wanted confirmation. Choosing the right camera is as much a headache as finding the right DVR.

Here are my requirements: 4 channels 30fps at least on highest D1 resolution 700x all at one Have a Blackberry App for remote viewing (not a browser url link) email notifications motion detection (have my own HDD) I have looked at about a million different brands and I just don't know which to buy. Monoprice has a great little unit but does not have blackberry support. Please recommend some units which will last a Long time and will not break down.

Thanks i posted this in the DVR forum and I'm looking at the Aver 4 channel that is 60fps at D1. The blackberry software does work as well but the only limitation is if you are not at the console you don't have control of all the settings.

this is off your search. not real assuring when i read reviews like this. A good friend of mine recommended these two brands so ill probably stick to them and avoid these. The only one that showed up in US retailers online is the KPC-N501NU which is not far off in terms of price compared to name brand camera so if you ask my why bother buying a generic copied camera with sketchy warranty. I don't mind paying for quality camera but thanks for the suggestions Now which Speco do you guys recommend

Ahh, see im trying to avoid the generic copied stuff for quality reasons. If i wanted a cheap copy ive seen 700TVL cameras with Sony chips as low as $99 but they are that price for a reason. I don't want to replace these cameras in a year or two if you catch my drift. Pay up and do it right once and be happy forever.

hi. they are webviwer snaps and not remote viwer software. all avers have the same screen on the system or away from the system looks like this Ok i contacted Mark and he actually was nice enough to let me view his desktop live over the net and show me what he basically told me from the start that Not all of the features are availalbe to change unless you are connected locally to the DVR via keyboard/mouse/monitor. Understood but I was planning on only using Analog cameras anyway. I'm more interested in the specs and features.

Thanks for the response, I would like quality recording and basing it off some older cameras i had see i want more then 7fps. 15fps I dont mind at each channel. What is the price of the unit that will do the higher fps for a 4 channel and what Blackberry support is offered if any?
