    Camera blackout problem

I have two different video security systems, one at home with a dvr and one at a business with a nvr. Both systems have experienced what I call camera dropout where "some" of the cameras go dark (black) and the only way to get them back is to shut off the dvr/nvr, unplug them and wait a few minutes and restart them. Then all the cameras come back normally. The dvr system with 12 bnc cable cameras has only done this once in the last 3-4 years but the nvr system with 16 cat5e cable cameras blacks out one or two cameras every month and has only started happening after 1 year of installation. Hoping somebody here can enlighten me as to what may be happening? Thanks for any help
  2. Hi Newbie here so please be gentle. I have just finished installing a Samsung SHR-8162 DVR (yes, I know they are a discontinued model) into an existing system I already had to get a better DVR. I am very happy with the Samsung and it performs very well, I guess it should for the price. Now to my issue, I am trying to view this dvr on the internet as I did just fine with my previous dvr but it just wont show the video of the cameras. I use dyndns and that part is working just fine as it always has. I can login just fine and then the Samsung web viewer comes up but the screen in the viewer is just black and blank and the buttons are greyed out also. At other times I login and the whole page is just white and blank with no web viewer at all. I know I am getting to the dvr or I would not have the login box. I have tried to research this online (Samsung is closed today) and many have said this is an ActiveX problem and I have set IE8 to enable the ActiveX stuff where necessary but nothing I do seems to work so would certainly welcome any suggestions from the pros! Thanks, Gary BTW - I have also installed the Samsung "SmartViewer" and it works just fine viewing the cameras but did not work out of my network at a friends house.

    Samsung SHR-8162 internet issue

All is well and all I can say is that Samsung-Techwin has the best support on the planet! They were quick, friendly, spoke perfect English (they are located in New Jersey) and fixed the problem after connecting to my computer and then telling me exactly what they did so I could do the same to my laptop. The "Smart Viewer" that Samsung produces for free is a great piece of software and needs no browser to connect the dvr anywhere in the world via the internet! What happened was somehow I downloaded a beta version 3.10 of the Smart Viewer which is still a work in progress and should have been using version 3.08 so once the 3.10 version was un-installed and the 3.08 version installed everything works as it should. The Samsung DVR is truly a great piece of equipment and so is the technical support.
